    I think THE book in the background is hilarious. This is Lily. She is young and sophisticated, daring and genuine. If you find that offensive don't watch the video. Don't try and change a person's authenticity because you can't handle a word. Which, by the way, is in most modern dictionaries.

    Regarding all of the comments about the book in the background, I think Lily's choice of using it as a decoration is part of her personality- reserved but spunky. A smile always comes to my face when I see the book because it contradicts the original reasons why I fell in love with Lily's channel! To Lily- keep the book 🤗 I love how much it symbolizes your style and also life in general 😘 Cheers!

      Well said. I agree - to me, it highlights her personality and I like that spunky-ness as well. I hope she sees these comments too and not just the negative ones!

    Another tip is to listen to your skin. I know that sounds funny but I feel that if you pay attention, you know when you need to exfoliate or when your moisturizer isn't doing what you need it to do. Also, if you do wear makeup, cleaning your brushes and other tools regularly helps minimize the chance of spreading bacteria to your freshly cleansed face. Happy new year everyone.

    I had to chuckle at the fact that you're not "into" the whole anti-aging "thing", when what you mentioned after(having plump and glowy skin) is kinda what anti-aging is about, haha. Many people don't think anti-aging products work, but that's because they're not adressing the major factor which ages the skin, like sun-exposure, smoking etc.

    I am glad you made the comment about anti-aging. I am 51 and American and the whole country is obsessed with trying to look younger. I just want to take care of my skin and age gracefully. Well spoken words in this one. You are very comical and self deprecating but also wise for your age!

    lol i didn't even notice the book until i started reading the comments. there are lots of things to be upset about in the world, but a photography book in the back of a video is not one of them.

    I recently started to leave a mask on my face whilst in the shower to protect it from drying out from the hot water and rinse it after. I love the feeling of clean skin especially after a day travelling around London. Everytime I go home to Sweden it surprises me how my skin is never as dirty as in London.

    I couldn't agree more with the "just get into a routine" idea! Skincare is so ingrained in my head that I don't even think about it. Also, your thoughts on exfoliating are on point! If you over exfoliate you run the risk of thinning your skin and aging early! I do cleanse in the shower, but only at the very end and I turn the water to lukewarm!

    • @JonathanCurtis
      @JonathanCurtis 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jessie LC thank you, I'm not talking about people who use gentle products designed for daily use, I'm talking about using a harsh scrub every day, like she mentioned. Light exfoliation daily can be great depending on your skin type. However can thin your skin if it's too harsh. A light enzyme gel twice a day is fine, but I think Lily and I are both talking about people who use very harsh products like the St Ives Apricot Scrub twice a day, which takes dead and healthy cells and can damage the skins surface and break the natural barrier function.

    i was just explaining these very same tips to my husband the other night! his response? "is there any way i can just have nice skin without doing all of this?" but i pretty much told him that you have to enjoy it and make it a part of your daily routine for it to feel like you're doing nothing at all. fab video, lily! Skincare is so important, especially in the long run. You can change your lipstick, but not your skin, and no makeup will be able to fix everything.

    Thanks for the tip with not changing the routine unless it stops working! I've been using Clinique skincare products and they really helped but then I started noticing that they took away more than gave. So I changed it completely and chose products from different "The Body Shop" ranges for different skin types because it can be a bit tricky sometimes to define your skin type. I've been using that for a year now and I love it! I use their blue cleanser for combination skin, tea tree toner, vitamin E serum and Clinique dramatically different moisturizing gel because it's wonderful to put under your makeup. Recently I thought of changing it just because I've been using it for a good few months and maybe there's something out there that works better but now I see that I don't have to do that if my skin enjoys the products. Thank you, Lily! :)
    I don't know why I've just said all that but maybe that will help someone with a similar story.

    I don't have hot hot showers, and I actually can't stand putting my face into the water when I'm showering! I use a micro- dermabrasion type exfoliant every few days and the dermatologist actually recommended that I use it in the shower as the tiny beads stick to the skin and trying to get it all off over a basin would be really messy- so it really just depends on what products you're using and how hot you like your showers :) xo

    I think in this video the camerca doesn't really focus your face as much as it does to the background (the candle+books) so it's a bit hard to watch when i watch this in full screen.
    Also just a personal opinion, i find that your lighting recently is a bit dull, grey and dark! Natural light or maybe more light in the background to make it warmer i'd say? ;)
    Btw great tips Lily! Thanks a lot!

    Totally agree about not over exfoliating, although when I was younger I had awfully dry skin that ended up quite spotty because the dry skin wasn't allowing oils to be removed properly. Physical exfoliation did nothing- I don't believe it works at all, because it's uneven and can cause more damage. Since using acid toners my skin is like new skin! I use the radiance pads maybe two evenings a week, or when I feel like I need it. The Emma Hardie cloths are also good for gentle everyday exfoliation. I also use oils a lot, specifically the Clarins Blue Orchid. I can notice such a difference when I don't use it. I also love the Estee Lauder ANR. My moisturiser is the Clinique Moisture Surge Intense- the only moisturiser that doesn't feel as if it's clogging my skin, but is moisturising enough!

  • @moirareid748
    @moirareid748 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks like exfoliation is such a dividing topic! Personally, I have to lightly exfoliate everyday to slough off all the dead, flaky dry skin I've been blessed with so I love exfoliating. However, some of my friends use a body exfoliating mitt on their face and that just makes me cringe up, all I can think about is them popping capillaries or rubbing their face raw. I don't think I could give up using an exfoliator every day but I've never tried any acid toners so I am definitely going to pick one up and see how much of a difference it makes! xx

    The 'routine' aspect is so right - cleansing is a non-negotiable for me. I went on a (rare) night out clubbing this weekend, and was literally in my bathroom at 3:45AM doing my skincare routine 😂

  • @paramparamfruti

    I think exfoliating is a personal thing. I don't really get why you are so against it (against more frequent and harsh exfoliation than yours). I do home microdermabrasion once a week and two times a week I do a regular mechanical scrub. And my skin just blooms!
    Also there is a whole treatment designed by a dermatologist where you basically exfoliate two times a day (and of course nourish well). Surprisingly enough it doesn't leave your skin irritated, if done properly.
    So I might conclude it that way: try something yourself and watch your skin and how it reacts. It takes a long time to find a good skincare sometimes. :)

    Lily ... the whole idea about anti aging products is not about not wanting to be old. but it just try to make your face more hydrated and moisturized because as you get older your skin get drier. it is about getting your face less wrinkles and less deeper lines just as you said. and also i am 39 and you are still in your 20s. you might change your tune when you are 40. it is a bit annoying when i hear 28 year old girl saying they dont believe in anti aging. but hey everybody entitled to their own opinions right? also that Rankin book is totally unnecessary... it is the first thing i see when i opened the video

    I have never really thought about my skincare :O i usually am good with my pink dove moisturizing soap as facial cleanser (i know this might be cringe worthy for some ppl :P) and olay moisturizer with spf (which i actually love). I have pretty clear skin and the past 22 years I never had an issue with that tiny routine. Now that I am in my early 20s, I do want to step it up a little bit and this video definitely helps :D I love watching skincare routine videos because I find them relaxing but a simple video like this helped inspire me to start putting more care.

      +minion8 HI, it's not just the heat but the actual pressure of the water than can be an issue too. A high pressure shower head can pump water with quite a force and can cause broken capillaries on the face. If your water pressure isn't too strong then it shouldn't be a problem.

    • @minion8
      @minion8 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      M G you usually can change the pressure depending on how far you twist/pull (however it looks) the valve. at least that's how it works with all the showers i know. of course if it hurts it's too hard like on any more delicate body parts ;) plus: most modern showerheads even have different settings as well

    It's perfectly fine to cleanse your face in the shower, I alway wash my face first at a much lower water temperature, and then increase it for my body.

    • @singinggal2002
      @singinggal2002 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are going to wash your face in the shower, at least wash your hair first. That way your face is still protected by your natural oils which will prevent the residue from your hair/shampoo/conditioner from being deposited into any clean opened pores. Washing your face after your hair will remove any S/C sitting on top of your skin. Plus the additional time allows the warmth of the shower to open your pores for better cleansing. Though I do take warm showers vs hot, so I would agree with Lily that if you do hot showers to wait.

    Good tips! Never thought about not washing my face in the shower. Will definitely try to avoid it and see what happens. :)
