- The Sto. Niño Shrine and Heritage Museum is the top tourist destination in Tacloban City. It is weird that I was raised in Samar and go to Leyte often and yet I haven't set foot in this structure. When I went home to Samar for a vacation I intentionally took a quick side trip in this heritage place to witness the grandeur, power, and excess of the Marcoses while they were under the seat of power and governance before their family was exiled to Hawaii after the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.
This mansion is one of the 29 rest houses built by former President Ferdinand Marcos for his wife Imelda. Inside the mansion depicts the undeniable lavish and exorbitant lifestyle of the former First Lady with collections of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, pottery, furniture, and fixtures from China, Italy, Spain, and other parts of Europe.
At the ground floor is a 100-pax chapel lit with beautiful chandeliers from Czechoslovakia with Narra pews and a replica of the image of the Sto. Niño made from Italian ivory. On the chapel’s periphery, elevated by 2-3 steps, are 13 intricately decorated guestrooms of different motifs, each unique and exceptional as they represent the different provinces and identities of the country. Each room had a diorama of the First Lady's life from childhood to womanhood.
At the second floor is a spacious ballroom, a 30-pax dining/conference room, telephone room, and 7 magnificently designed and decorated private bedrooms for the First Family. Imelda’s bedroom had a very large bathroom that has a never-been-used jacuzzi.
Today the mansion is poorly maintained and some of the items and collections inside were already ruined as evidenced by the decaying furniture, deteriorating walls and not well preserved artifacts.
I hope that the proceeds generated in the museum tour go directly to its rehabilitations and preservations as the treasures inside are legacies for the Filipino people.

HOW TO GET THERE?
Tourists can reach Leyte Province by air from Tacloban City, the capital city of Leyte. Local airlines from Manila have daily trips to Tacloban City. From the airport, jeeps bound for Tacloban downtown are available just tell the driver that you will go to Real St. where the shrine is located.

How do you know that the wealth was ill-gotten? Many of the valuable items were gifts of presidents, first ladies, kings and princes, ambassadors, etc. and their wives who visited the marcoses during the marcos years. Who caused the deterioration of the mansion and the items therein? Was it not cory who sequestered the marcos properties? Why did she not have these maintained?
It’s so hard to tell really that’s why I put question mark in my thumbnail. This property was an alleged ill-gotten and Cory sequestered this when she was installed to presidency. Multiple typhoons that hit Tacloban including Yolanda in 2013 were the cause of its deteriorations. While I agree that this mansion is very controversial, I also agree that this must be maintained as this is a legacy for the Filipino people and there’s actually a lot of things that we can learn from there.

the location was actually the original location of the romualdez residence, aside from their house in Tolosa leyte. The current structure is not the original structure. it was built during the marcos time, together with the People's Center and library, once the largest library in the country. there was an issue before about the usage of the term Sto Nino Shrine. because a shrine is a holy place , yet the parish preist at that time allowed imelda to use the term Shrine.

The Aquino administration have culturally denied the people to witness first- hand artifacts that presented the aesthetic global development to the people of the Philippines. It would have been the chance for the marginalized citizens to see the culture outside their towns, barrios, rice fields.

I agree. Signs of deteriorations on the art pieces, furniture and and collections are already depicted. The rooms are not well lit and most of its inside are poorly maintained. Some parts of the structure were also destroyed due to different typhoons that hit Tacloban especially Yolanda. I wish the government maintains it as this is a legacy for the Filipino people. There’s a lot the generation, young and old can learn inside this ancestral house. 😌

Actually we really went there and saw first hand the situation of the mansion. It was poorly maintained. While it’s true that it is now used as a museum and heritage site to visit, signs of deteriorations are really shown all over inside and out.

Obviously it's the title of the video the op was trying to point out, only fools wouldn't get what you are trying to show. By having that title, it'll give the viewers the impression that the artifacts and stuff that was shown in the video are indeed from ill-gotten wealth, well in fact there's no proof to support those claims.
