+blackbird6410 Unfortunately the predecessors of many of these engines hauled many Jews to their death in the holocaust. I therefore think that all German steam locos should be cut up for scrap and melted down out of respect. I realise it wasn't this particular loco, but I still think all German steam locos must be scrapped as a mark of respect.

@@PreservationEnthusiast I think all American and British must be scrapped as a mark of respect. Because they invade other country , colony and killed so many North America Indigenous people. Right??
@@DeZug Yes you are correct. The British invaded many countries and colonialism was in most cases exploitation, though there were side benefits for the host countries in terms of faster technology transfer and development. But in general it was not a good thing, and I agree with your point about scrapping US and UK steam locomotives.
@@pondcat5135 No, I would still scrap steam locomotives. They are not amazing, they pollute. Tear them to pieces with cutting torches and melt down the scrap.
Vandaar.
Love those German 52 class engines and all the others shown in this video. In the United States the only railroad that never 100% dieselized is the Union Pacific Railroad. The last new steam locomotive bought by the UP was the 844 a 4-8-4 FEF-3 class dual service engine freight or passenger 80 inch drivers 300 pounds of steam pressure 63,000 pounds of tractive effort and rated at a 1000 tons at 100 mph. The railroad chose not to retire it but use it as an symbol of the railroad. When all other steam power was officially retired in 1962' they last ran steam in 1959. Here is a video shot by a member of the steam crew that maintains and repairs the locomotive pushing a freight that stalled in front of it climbing Sherman Hill when it had an engine fail, lost a traction motor on one engine so it needed a push. Steve Lee who was running the 844 and was head of the steam program based at Cheyenne, Wyoming after they volunteered to push the freight was questioned by the freights engineer in front of him whether the 844 could actually be of any assistance to which Steve Lee replied " How do you think we moved trains before diesels arrived?" I got that quote from Mr Lee listening to him give a talk to a bunch of people after he retired from the railroad. Here is the link to the video enjoy. th-cam.com/video/RU9uEwSGp9M/w-d-xo.html Nice seeing steam power working as intended.
The intro and much of the rest of the music in this video is from the movie of Conan the Barbarian. You know it's not a American train or it would have one or two diesel helpers and they would be blowing the whistle the whole time. Great train and nice vid.
what is the purpose of the two curved metal panels masking the front end of the boiler on either side? To keep flying birds from smashing the headlamp? Or the headlamp from shining into people's houses who live by the side of the rail line?
+SupernalOne To lift smoke clear of the loco that would otherwise cling and block the crew's view. Many locos have them if the blast is not sharp. For example, you will not see them on Great Western engines that have a fierce exhaust blast.
+984francis That's a bit ironic since western locos all have double exhaust pipes. Double exhausts reduce the speed of the steam leaving the chimney which gives the loco more power and a steadier air suction for the fire. Other side effects are a soft, quiet blast. But since western locos usually travel rather slow, they don't need smoke deflectors either way. Both west and east german engineers on the other hand were very conservative, so all german locos have simple exhausts. That's why they sound so epic ;)
+Jim Jardine well germans had plans to build articulated tenderengine called BR53 but due to war the engine project was never started and thus exisisted only in blueprints. But there was the BR52 or "kriegslokomotive" and they built over 7 000 of them. The BR53 was meant replace the BR52s.
Super Ejovadi, weiter so !!! Mit welcher Drohne fliegst Du in Deinen Filmen ?
No Music needed, the sound of the majestic engines is enough. Thats the real music in my ears ;-)

Nice seeing steam power working as intended.
Anyone else noticed the HO model locomotive slipped in at 8:57? Looked like a Roco BR23 - had a good laugh!
Not only that- but bad track!!
LOL yes!
Yeah, music way too loud, if even at all. The beauty is in the chug of the locomotive!
wonderful video!

excellent video, great work !!
Thanks.

NO MUSIC. We want to hear the sounds of the locomotive and trains.Nice video traveling next to the locomotives!
why would you drown out the beautiful sounds of steam locos with music?
Ik zou zeggen: 'Like this video'!

Prachtige video....zeker samen. Epischer muziek uitkiezen >???
Beautiful Compilation!

Thanx..

How can anyone not like this??
Because of the horrible music added...
