Kurt and Sara......such fun for this 74 yo Art Major to watch you youngsters exploring those gorgeous small towns! Since I see that there are only 33 comments on this one......maybe there's a chance you'll actually read mine too! I've written to you guys once before but no response. I understand though. Anyway, I was a nearly full time bab assistant at a community college in Marin County California in 77, 8 and 9 and I've built 9 arch structures. Mostly ceramic kilns, but an earth cool root cellar and a chimney top too! But when I was exploring in Spain, I watched two teams of masons build a 24 X 12 meter church.....and it took only 8 days to create the entire arch structure! Wow! That blew my mine and expanded my awareness of the potential of arch structures. Nowadays with insulated building blocks, like "super blocks" the entire home is instantly fully insulated....and then you cover the entire arch with rectangle "high fired" tiles using "thin set" and that roof will last a couple hundred years. You can google "arch homes" for some great examples too! If both ends of the arch are double or triple glazed (depending on the weather where you're going to build), you have a super fast and cheap to build and super cheap to heat or cool too! You can contact me at for more info. I've been an Expat living in rural Esaan, Thailand for 29 years now! I'm in paradise and surrounded by Angles....but S.E. Asia is not for everyone....and probably not for you two. Nonetheless, arch homes are the way to go, I call them "Creative Caves"! Haley On and On you two!!! Rollee
Thanks so much for the nice comment Darrell, sounds like you have had a pretty awesome life and continue to live in wonderful places. Hey you two thanks for the video content! I’m an RN in Maine thinking about moving to Black Mountain if I can find a job in the area, sell my house here and buy something there. I love that you included plant based options while you were out and about as I’ve been plant based for eight years. I just found you and subscribed.
Hi, Patricia, thank you so much for subscribing to our channel. We really appreciate it and are so glad you like our videos! Yes, we've been plant based for 6 years and find that there are tons of options for food here. Some places are entirely plant based which is fun! We've been to Maine (Portland and Acadia National Park) and absolutely loved it! Good luck with your relocation and again thanks so much for watching! Take care
Thank you for the great videos. We are planning to retire in the Asheville area (probably Hendersonville). Love seeing all of the cool towns nearby. Maybe you could give us a peak at a neighborhood or two in each town?
Hi! New to your community. I and my fiance live in Guam and looking for a nice small town with mild 4 seasons to retire. We are artists and love nature. I'm Eurasian and he is a native Chamorrow. There doesn't seem to be much diversity. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be an issue but would you say this town would be welcoming to us?
Hi, Glad to have you here watching our videos! We couldn't honestly answer your question and would recommend visiting the area and getting a feel for it yourself. Sorry we couldn't been more help and we wish you the best of luck with your search!
