That would be amazing, a handheld with SSB at a reasonable price. I am sure they would sell extremely well if they came out with that. We can only hope that we see something on the market like this soon. All the best and thanks for watching.
If Jopix did release a throbbing johnson, it'd probably only come in pink, and the antenna design would certainly by "unusual", perhaps with a red LED in the tip?
Its a great name for the next Jopix radio, lets hope they take the feedback on-board and surprise us with something more inventive than the CB514. All the best and thanks for watching.
@@NLKMediaGroupwhere did you get the map mat?? Much better than the usual green cutting mat. Also I've found the PNI H.T. CB on ebay for under £90 so as I dont have and CB ht's in my collection, I ordered 2!
Hi Delboy, on my radios I cannot adjust the timeout timer. If I release the buttons it disappears immediately. If i keep them pressed and try the up/down or any other button it doesn't do anything at all. I must be missing a trick somewhere. The top side button we discovered later in the video re the back light with different implementations between radio versions. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup that's strange, the TOT can certainly be adjusted on my radio, it was one of the first things I found when looking for the hidden export menu.
By the way, i tested the helical antenna. It was resonant on EU channels but nowhere close on the UK channels. I keep my T-X on my desk. When conditions are good i can listen to the Superbowl on AM with the NRC on. Its one of the best CB receivers i have ever used.
It is such good value for money. I have just received my President Jerry which I need to review but need to review the Radioddity GD-88 first. It was fun playing with the Thunderpole, PNI and Jopix and discovering the differences. You really cant go wrong for the price and NRC is becoming a must have feature. Shame the Jerry doesn't have it. All the best MJ7NLK
The midland alan 42ds has the same car kit. But it has been found that using the antenna on that kit drops its power just like TX. So try the TX with the car one disconnected. Then plug the top one back in. I expect the power to return.
Hi MJ7NLK. Thank you for another excellent upload. I do find your chanel tremendously interesting. I also love my president Randy III and will stick with it as it's a fantastic Radio. Kind regards rich :-)
Hi Rich, thank you for the valued feedback. I would post more frequently if I had more time available. Have just received the President Jerry and a Radioddity GD-88, just need to find the time to review them. All the best and thanks for watching.
Hi Gower23, yes it is legal to use AM, FM and SSB in the EU, UK and US. AM is very popular in the USA and FM was only legalized for CB in the US and Canada in Sept 2021. AM and FM on the EU CEPT band can be used no problem. All the best and thanks for watching. MJ7NLK
Thank you, I have the Randy 3 and it works well except for the scanning. Where I live there more activity on 446 but I live in a deep valley., which is a natural Faraday cage . I'm also a licensed Radio Amateur and still suffer the natural attenuation but that the nature of the hobby . When home on leave, I go out "tooled-up" walking the dogs and the portable radios to call CQ. Only had 1 CQ in CB27 in 2 years. I think my timing is out, very early mornings an early evening may not be the best . Scanning by SDR activity when I can't reply. May be when I retire, I can play full time, till then, I'll keep on doing 🎉it professionally with Motorola and Icom sets. 73 de G7UAY
Best time for skip is usually Sunday morning (weather dependent) at around 10am. That works well for me in my area and I often hear it rolling in from Europe. My area is pretty dead on the CB airwaves and not much chance of picking people up locally. Greenlaners and farmers are the only vehicles I see with antenna on them these days. The ICOM sets are amazing but super expensive. My eldest son really likes the Motorola radios and he has a few of them now. All the best and thanks for watching, 73 MJ7NLK
It doesnt work on my version, I think this functionality must have been added in later software versions. Mine is V0 and PTT+FUNC does nothing. On the other radios running later software versions it works great. What is your software version (when resetting it flashes up) so that I can let others know which version its supported from? Thanks for watching MJ7NLK
@NLKMediaGroup My JOPIX handheld is version 01. I also have JOPIX GS-60, and that is widebanded by changing the jumper from 1-2 to 2-3. That extends the range to cover the 10m band and 12m band as well as the 11m CB band. It also gives you more options in the menus, one of which is three power output power settings, which is customisable up to a power level 15w FM. If you cut the link wire, this makes it amateur only.
@@NLKMediaGroup Further to my above comment, I wonder if you could flash the firmware to V01? If you find a way, it could be interesting to know. If so, someone could reverse engineer the firmware to make a custom version.
Hi Buzzie, have you tried to access the tables as shown in the video which allow you to switch frequencies? The Jopix I have does not have that option and was running the earliest firmware version but the HP82 and TX were running later versions and both allowed it to be changed. If you reset the device (as per video) you can see what firmware version your radio is running. All the best MJ7NLK
Its a weird setting and the frequencies go all over the place. I am sure someone will let me know at some point but could be Chinese marine band but I suspect Thailand region. Would be nice to find out. All the best and thanks for watching
@@NLKMediaGroup I had a look and Thailand doesn't officially allow 27 MHz. Their legal CB system is on 245 MHz, but there may be illegal operation on 27 like most places.

It's possible that the small power difference between the top antenna and car kit is down to the length of cable and the connectors but this would be more than made up with the advantages of having a big external antenna on the roof of the car. The President Randy 3 has far more optionality in this regard with far more power being available when using the car kit and that works and connects in a similar way. All the best MJ7NLK
@@NLKMediaGroup well being as I'm in Canada I'm sure I'll be getting the Thunderpole T-X as it has the Canadian table. A question though, can I still put food on the Canadian table or not? I usually put food on the table so I was wondering if it's still ok or not? Yes I have a weird sense of humour (Canadian humour hi hi) LOL
Bought both Thunderpole TX and TTI-H100 both very compact but disappointing range, RX is ok but the TX not so, maximum range is about 1 mile to a base station, not enough power nowerdays to get through all the interference we get from Wifi and Bluetooth signals and everything else unlike in the 80's and 90's, same with base stations, OFCOM should relax the power output a little for CB radio, PMR446 is a far quieter frequency so better range but again restricted 500mw for both Base and Handhelds so very little point to them.
In a built up area on a CB handheld that is about the max distance. Even the Randy 3 when expanded needs the car kit to boost power up to 12 watts. The Anytone AT-D878UVIIplus is a popular darkside PMR radio and can be expanded to output 6 or 7 watts on PMR but it has a removable antenna and anything over 0.5W is not legal. GMRS in the US has a 50 Watt limit and it certainly would be good if the power limits could be reviewed on CB. All the very best and thanks for watching MJ7NLK
Yes with some coins you can. I tried a two pence and that worked, a fifty pence also worked but a ten pence was too thick. So it depends on the coins in your pocket if you can get the door off without a screwdriver. Thanks for watching, all the best MJ7NLK
The UV-K6 / UV-K5(8) is great value for money but is not a CB radio out of the box. It can be modified with different firmware to cover the 10/11 meter band but the antenna would also need changing to get the most out of it. I have a UV-K5(8) on the shelf which I will do some testing on at some point to see what its like on 11 meters. It still amazes me how much you get with this radio for the price.
