All the Luos of Africa must get to know each other. We need to know our common history, in order to continue to exist in this chaotic and materialistic world. People are losing their cultural identities every day to outside influences.

We should hold a dance or cultural convention since language may have been polluted with inter-mixing and migration. Therefore we should include Alur (in Uganda and DRC), Langi, Jo pa Dhola, Kumam, both Anyuar (Sudan and Ethiopia), Shilluk and LUO in Kenya and Tanzania. I suspect there are Luos in Congo Brazaville ( I saw an Odonga in Goverment there). I would explore Zulu because it sounds like joluo(in Kenya) and they wear leopard skin like the Acholi. Forgive my wild speculation but somethibg tells me there might be lost Luos in West Africa from some of their names - Opong (Ghana), Oke, Ojuku (Nigeria) etc.

Acoli yeeeeee!!! What a rich culture! All black culture can trace it's dance roots to this.
I'm so proud to be Acoli, Luo, African.. This is wonderful edutainment. Good narration of our history and culture, great dancing and music... Everyone should learn this. It should be included in all the curriculums of world history everywhere. I have to learn how to dance and rhyme properly like this.

    Ostrich Feathers in Ancient Egypt
The ostrich feather was associated with the Goddess Ma’at. It was the symbol used to depict her and images of her show her wearing an ostrich feather in her hair. Ma’at was the daughter of the sun god and was the goddess of truth and justice. When a man died and wished to enter the afterlife, Ma’at weighed their heart against the weight of an ostrich feather. Only if a man’s heart weighed less than the feather was he allowed to enter the afterlife.
ACHOLI USED TO BE THE BEST/Most Honest and Trust worthy ADMINISTRATORS soon after independence they had 4 Permanent Secretaries, Chairmen of Parastatal Corporations including UDC, 2 successive East African Airways Chairmen, TransOcean. Company Secretaries of Coffee, Lint, National Insurance Corp etc etc. True MA'AT.
Ostrich Feathers as a Fashion Accessory in Ancient Egypt
Ostrich feathers were worn by men and in early times were worn in the hair of Egyptian SOLDIERS. In later times only men of ROYAL BLOOD were allowed to wear the ostrich feather. Princesses of Ancient Egypt had fans made out of the ostrich feathers, with bases made of gold and when the Pharaoh went out among the people, royal servants kept him cool with ostrich feather fans on long poles.

The Acholi are very closely related to Shilluk or Cholo hence Acholi name derived. Acholi recall to this day Nuba Mountain in th dance which starts at 6:00. They call it "Te Kidi" or the foot hills.

This history is incomplete and needs more research because the Luo even lived in Egypt at a certain time. This is proven by so many names of places including Cairo(Kar-iro=meaning a place of smoke or smoky place) Khartoum in Sudan(Kar-tum= meaning a place of horns) Even the word Egypt is a Luo word (A=I,Tah=meaning light, ptah=means of the light. Therefore the word Aegyptah=means I am of the light.) Search your web for Luo Origin of Civilization. This information is even found in the oral history.

Do you not know that the indigenous peoples of Ethiopia were luos. Anyuak are luo remnants. By the way the Ariya clan in Acholi claim to have travelled from Syria via Somalia hence every somali responds to "wa Riya" or we Ariya people. In sumali it means you man.

Sometimes I wonder why we share some names with some people in West Africa: I sometimes find Nigerians and Ghanaians with similar name like the Luos: Ajok, Odongkor, Opobo, Aluko / Aluku , Adicie, Opongo / Opongo , Opara, etc yet we have no historical ties.

To understand this central luo group, look up the most exstensive work by brother Dr Terence Okello on "Luo Origin of Civilization" or in Acholi Times. Better yet for those who cannot travel to Egypt, please see extensive youtube by: dr john henrik clarke egypt; dr yosef ben jochannan on religion, egytian black origins etc. If you have the patience watch many of these giants in black awakening plus nice youtube of the many Dr Ben's tours of the pyramids - you might even see the warrior luos in the pyramids. Goddess MA'AT wears "KONO" feathers on the head - how many people wear feathers.

The Otuho (Lotuko) also wear feathers on the head, both men & women. The Otuho women wear a feather on the head the same way MA'AT wears hers.

I took interest and clicked on Ukrainian Gopak. I am even shocked that you called Gopak a dance! Gopak is a clown entertainment for childrens birthday parties. It does not qualify to be called a dance. I understand that you can´t compare the two. This one is a classical traditional dance. Gopak is a childrens clown entertainment without class, structure and steps. How does one call a clown a dancer? I leave you to check the meaning of a clown and a dancer in wikipedia. There is a difference.
