I have no experience in combat sports. I plan on starting Muay Thai beginning of next year, I was wondering, which stance am I supposed to start with. I am right handed so technically I should be an orthodox but what's the science behind it?
My coach is the opposite lol they’re adamant to swing the arm down by your side! Someone I seen on yt explained it saying that if you throw a kick from the correct distance your opponent can’t punch your face so throwing it across your body for protection should be pointless. But I’ve also seen people say they do it because it helps them stay balanced better than swinging it down. Honestly I think it’s situational BUT I am also relatively new and don’t really know what I’m talking about lol. Would like to know this for sure as well.
Sean I have a question! Why does everything I see about Muay Thai teach or do switch kicks but my coach does not teach switch kicks? At least not yet? He has taught us all to throw our lead leg from our stance without switching the legs, is this normal for a beginner?. May I ask why the switch kick is much more popular and common? Thanks for your vids mate
Kicking from the lead leg without switching is extremely uncommon in Muay Thai and most coaches teach not to do it. It's common in taekwondo and karate though. I like it but my coach tells me not to
Sean really puts the fun in Muay Thai
I appreciate the love!

Yo man ive got a coach that is super adamant about your arm going across instead of going down when you kick. I like both ways what are your thoughts?
