They are a British band and part of the whole Britpop movement in the mid 90's here in the UK, their rivalry with a fellow band Blur even reached the front pages of newspapers. The singer from Blur is the creator of the Gorillaz.
Tons of Britpop and other British bands kind of around the same time in the 90's to explore, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Verve, Supergrass, Manic Street Preachers, Stone Roses, Happy Mondays and tons more.

Wonderwall is the name of a George Harrison album. George was the lead guitarist for the Beatles. He sang on many songs, "Here Comes the Sun", "Something"..., and had many solo hits. Some think this song is about the Beatles. The Long and Winding Road is sort of name-checked. Backbeat was a movie about how the Beatles came together as a group.
The way you guys take in music from all eras is amazing. When I was 18 I wasn't as knowledgeable and open minded as you about music.
Remember, you don't have to love it all, but if you've listened to it, then you can have an opinion, and it will help you appreciate other music.

This band is a symbol for the north of England. Men getting drunk and going to the football. Honest people who work hard and go mad at the weekend. Its everything that makes Britain great. Oasis was out first in the mid 90s when the north of England had been ravaged by years of Tory government and it was like a light of the end of the tunnel and binded everyone together to say things can get better

Great vid, one Oasis well worth reacting to is - Don't look back in anger, it became like an anthem for Manchester after the Arianna Grande bombing where 22 people lost their lives and hundreds more injured.
It's very unusual to listen to this song and not sing along. This song is basically a national anthem here in the UK. Cool video guys

So....Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher are the brothers that make up the core of Oasis. Noel (the one playing guitar at the beginning) is the older brother who writes all the songs. Liam is the younger brother and lead singer. Noel has stated that Wonderwall was about his then-girlfriend but has also said it was about an imaginary friend who saves you from yourself. He's changed his story a few times but my guess is that it's about his then girlfriend, Meg Matthews, who became his wife and is now his ex-wife. Seriously though, check this band out. They are HUGE pretty much everywhere except the U.S. where they are somewhat popular but criminally underrated. Hope this helps.

So some FYI on this song, Noel Gallagher, (guitarist and songwriter) said it was open to interpretation, he writes most of his songs in a vague way so that they are open for you to find your own meaning. On that note, Champagne Supernova, Talk Tonigh, Round Are Way, Some Might Say, okay, basically every other Oasis song is great to react to. Support you guys, keep it up!

Historically, media outlets said Wonderwall was about Noel's wife at the moment. After their divorce, Noel said it was about having someone (a best friend) who is willing to go above and beyond to save you.

They're as big or close to as big as the Beatles are in the UK. The only thing that held them back was the singer and guitarist being brothers and never seeing eye to eye about anything.

There's an old British movie called "Wonderwall." It's about a professor (peeping Tom) who's infatuated with his female hippie neighbor. His wonderwall is the one that divides their apartments. It has a crack that he watches her through.

Oasis was a great band... and had some amazing song's. But on another note, they actually said , during an interview. "We are better, and will be bigger then the Beatles".
Then their careers were dead, committed suicide. Not literally, but the in-fighting started and they were no more.
