    It's so nice to see a superbly crafted simple machine used by a master craftsmen for superb results. It amazes me how they can confidently bend the gem to 45 degrees on the dop without any apparent aid. I guess that's where the slight height adjustment of the peg compensates for the angle. Great short film.

    45% angle to cut the table...I'll have to try that...I have been using a well worn 3000 to cut my facets and I make discs of diamond to polish them.

    So funny, he said cutting coloured stones is not science , so how about gemcad software , is that for joke ?

      he doesn't know about all that computer stuff. He's old! :) Seriously though even with gem cad you need an artistic eye and experience to get the angles right. The software is usually slightly off in my experience and also can't tell you anything about managing color zones, pleochroism, etc. It mostly just tells you about brilliance.
