As a massive fan of Jon's DTM RS6 you should definitely let Jon know. I am sure he would love to support this project in some shape or form, maybe with ideas or tips and tricks. His RS6 was a living legend in the industry, and it came as such a shock that it got stolen and burnt down. Keep up the great work and best of luck. Can't wait to see the finished car!
@@Josh-zm9fz Car wasn't Jon's anymore when it got stolen and burned. Belonged to a dealer called Auto Leitner in Amsterdam, who had it for sale almost immediately after the Gumball 3000. There were also some rumours of Insurance Fraud with this car, because the way it got stolen and then burned was a bit of a shady story.
The thicker glass is an option you can buy when configuring the car. It is actually thicker so it reduces the amount of outside noises you hear and i believe it also has some sun protection Film inside the glass
thats almost right. the acoustic glass has two layers of glass seperated by a thin layer of plastic. The A6 glass was an option. The RS6 glass was the standard.
The single piece glass with is tempered which is designed to shatter into a million pieces when it breaks. The “two piece” glass is laminated which is two pieces of glass with a layer of plastic in the middle. Laminated is made to crack just like the windshield. They offer laminated glass in both acoustic and non acoustic same as windshields. Some cars don’t offer acoustic though

Hi Mat, a Dutch youtuber named Don de Jong has recently created a DTM style Audi RS6, built with the same style body kit as John Olson. This car is built bij Duke Design in the Netherlands. Due to car regulations on pedestrian safety in the Netherlands this car is going to be sold and can only be driven outside of the Netherlands. Maybe you can get some inspiration from it. Sick build!
Since Brexit we can get around this safety nonsense by having a man with a red flag walk in front of the car. Take that you crossing borders with no queuing Euros!

The RS 6 is an absolutely beautiful car. Please get it painted afterwards because a car like this really deserves a lot of love. Especially with the coming era of EV's, cars like the RS 6 need to last as long as possible.

Hey Mat, the difference in glass is probably sound. The RS6 glas got a thin air layer inbetween that insulates the “cabin” from all the road noises, as a added benefit it probably helps in the winter with condensation.
I was going to say the same. I work at Mercedes, so I don't know the specifics for the Audi. But that would typically be like that when a car is equipped with a "sound insulation package", which is either optional or standard for upper lines. Could also be an extra laminated glass, so instead of air, there would be a film in there, helping for heat (anti UV) and theft
The reason is because of the speeds that the car can achieve, it is a laminated Glas like in the front windshield, so if something hits the side window it will not just explode
You'd better get the new wheels before SEMA! Whatever you do, don't cheap out and use spacers. And I think the car is going to look amazing when you're finished! I was brought home from the hospital in a station wagon (or estate?) and 66 years later still have a place in my heart for them!

I believe that tinted glass might be a good idea either, just not sure how it is going to feel with the gray in real life since it seemed quite dark on video... But I believe it might be a great option

Also, you are the perfect “every man”. Just a car loving guy with whom I can identify. I am a modest car guy, having a small collection of sort of, classic cars. I’m from the US and think this makes sense for North American (wide) roads. Might be tough to daily in the UK, but power to you! I think it’s rad. I’ve seen a couple RS6 avants in person and they’re already wickedly wide. This would be nuts to see in person

US here. I'm normally more into sleek designs but I will wait and see here. Wide-body kits ALWAYS look stupid until the whole car is together so it's impossible to judge right now. Can't wait to see the finished car.

UK fan here. Even though the front splitter can fit a 3 course meal on it I can see the vision. It’s gonna look insane when it’s finished and kudos to you Mat for always pushing the boundaries with your content, keeping it fresh and original. Always can’t wait for the new vids to drop. On early C7 RS6 this double glazed glass was optional, i am not sure if it was the timing of the facelift to C7.5 (i think it was earlier) but the double glazed glass became standard at some point on the RS6. It makes a noticeable difference to wind noise and sound isolation in the cabin at higher speeds. I'd definitely be putting back in the double glazed glass and trying to source some for the driver's window too (new it is several hundred pounds for a new pane).

Matt the difference between the doorglasses is one is made from toughened glass (the doorglass which looks like its made from one sheet) this will shatter if broken. The other is made from laminated glass ( the doorglass which is thicker and made from two sheets of glass with a plastic sheeting in the middle of them) this will only crack if broken. Hope this helps.
Mat, I'm from the UK, this is going to look awesome. When you just have the front splitter on it really didn't look right, but as the other parts went on it looked so much better. 👍

Hey dude. The laminated side glass is for soundproofing and makes the cabin quieter. (It's two pieces of glass glued together). It's also difficult to smash through, so can be good for security.
Im from India and i ABSOLUTELY LOVE the car modifications. Here in India the government has banned car modification and tuning , so seeing this is really cool for me.
@@lxrick actually brother, its a very very very old law... from the 90s if u believe it... it was modified slightly in the early 2000s but still indian politicians dont really care much about car culture... that said, its by no means impossible to modify ur car in india... people do it all the time... the police ignores u mostly, and if ur nice about it, they might even comment and talk to u about it... just like in the usa and europe... what u arent allowed to do is make noisy mods with exhaust and engine swaps, tinted windows, and any controversial liveries or vinyls... u can only get fined for mods if u get on the wrong side of law, and they just want to throw a case at u... car mods arent a serious punishable crime... i speak all this from my experience tho, i have a ford endeavour, with modded chassis... and up untill now, i havent come across any issues
I work at an Audi Garage and see RS variant vehicles all the time - as much as it pains me to say it, seeing this was fresh and new to me so i like it. It is one of them processes that you have to trust right through to the end result though - love what you're doing man and keep it up!
At first I thought, that the frontsplitter was looking absolutely ridiculous. But as the rest of the body parts come together, I kinda like it. This will be a sick looking car. Amazing work as always mate. You're an inspiration.
For those who share hatred with auto start stop, its tied to your overal pressure you apply on the brakes at a light/stop. Its easy to feather the brakes so it doesnt engage, I use it when i know the light will turn shortly etc. No coding or pressing buttons to turn it off
As a Swede and Audi fan that lived in Åre (Skiresort where Jon spent some time and hosted competitions) I can just say I give this both thumbs up! Saw Jon's RS6 and all the lambos live and they where all crazy and it was heartbreaking when the news hit about his old RS6 (wasn't in his ownership at that time) got stolen and then burnt up. So this is going to be epic!

Hi Mat, The glass in the A6 is laminated so same as the windscreen and the RS6 glass is normal tempered glass. Definitely better off with the laminated glass but as you don't have both makes sense to change other 👍.
The difference between the glass is as I mentioned in the comment in the previous video - Audi gave an option to pick either standard glass, or the Acoustic Glass package (front glass and usually front side glass (never seen it in the back doors, but maybe just my luck)). Its the same as with the front glass, where you can have metal-covered acoustic glass or like three more versions (blank white, tinted etc...) So its nice to keep them uniform on the car to keep the inside noise acceptable :) Btw in the previous video I was kinda scared to see you lift up the car without selecting proper mode (the change wheel one as you did in this one), but it is really nice to nothing that bad happened. Would be also nice to see if it needed calibration after... Otherwise really nice job you are doing on the car!

The A6 door you bought had the optional acoustic glass (quite expensive), which insulates better and should give a quieter ride (should have a logo or smth on the glass). This is laminated glass like your front windshield. The RS6 window is the standard hardened/tempered glass side window. The acoustic variant doesn’t shatter into a million pieces like the tempered glass, so it also adds some extra security against someone wanting to break into your car.
Also this glass is tougher against thieves very hard break into the car ...and for future reference no need to take door card off to fit just drop glass abit remove outer weather strip ..slot piece of perspex between glass and clamp this will release clamp ...simply hold the glass with yer hand and drop the mech ...carefull not to drop perspex into door .

I’m pretty sure the two layer glass is what manufacturers call Acoustic Glass and is supposed to reduce noise in the cabin.

Hey Matt, here’s an idea for the headlights… Since you’re keeping the standard ones, perhaps you can tint them with dark PPF just to kill the silver glare?
I believe that tinted glass might be a good idea either, just not sure how it is going to feel with the gray in real life since it seemed quite dark on video... But I believe it might be a great option

Also, you are the perfect “every man”. Just a car loving guy with whom I can identify. I am a modest car guy, having a small collection of sort of, classic cars. I’m from the US and think this makes sense for North American (wide) roads. Might be tough to daily in the UK, but power to you! I think it’s rad. I’ve seen a couple RS6 avants in person and they’re already wickedly wide. This would be nuts to see in person

UK fan here. Even though the front splitter can fit a 3 course meal on it I can see the vision. Front splitter's for an american meal
On early C7 RS6 this double glazed glass was optional, i am not sure if it was the timing of the facelift to C7.5 (i think it was earlier) but the double glazed glass became standard at some point on the RS6. It makes a noticeable difference to wind noise and sound isolation in the cabin at higher speeds. I'd definitely be putting back in the double glazed glass and trying to source some for the driver's window too (new it is several hundred pounds for a new pane).

Matt the difference between the doorglasses is one is made from toughened glass (the doorglass which looks like its made from one sheet) this will shatter if broken. The other is made from laminated glass ( the doorglass which is thicker and made from two sheets of glass with a plastic sheeting in the middle of them) this will only crack if broken. Hope this helps.
also i think the double one is for sound insulation... Audi A6 might have better sound insulation than the RS6

Hey dude. The laminated side glass is for soundproofing and makes the cabin quieter. (It's two pieces of glass glued together). It's also difficult to smash through, so can be good for security.

@@lxrick actually brother, its a very very very old law... from the 90s if u believe it... it was modified slightly in the early 2000s but still indian politicians dont really care much about car culture...
that said, its by no means impossible to modify ur car in india... people do it all the time... the police ignores u mostly, and if ur nice about it, they might even comment and talk to u about it... just like in the usa and europe...
what u arent allowed to do is make noisy mods with exhaust and engine swaps, tinted windows, and any controversial liveries or vinyls...
u can only get fined for mods if u get on the wrong side of law, and they just want to throw a case at u... car mods arent a serious punishable crime... i speak all this from my experience tho, i have a ford endeavour, with modded chassis... and up untill now, i havent come across any issues
I work at an Audi Garage and see RS variant vehicles all the time - as much as it pains me to say it, seeing this was fresh and new to me so i like it. It is one of them processes that you have to trust right through to the end result though - love what you're doing man and keep it up!

For those who share hatred with auto start stop, its tied to your overal pressure you apply on the brakes at a light/stop. Its easy to feather the brakes so it doesnt engage, I use it when i know the light will turn shortly etc. No coding or pressing buttons to turn it off

As a Swede and Audi fan that lived in Åre (Skiresort where Jon spent some time and hosted competitions) I can just say I give this both thumbs up! Saw Jon's RS6 and all the lambos live and they where all crazy and it was heartbreaking when the news hit about his old RS6 (wasn't in his ownership at that time) got stolen and then burnt up. So this is going to be epic!

Hi Mat, The glass in the A6 is laminated so same as the windscreen and the RS6 glass is normal tempered glass. Definitely better off with the laminated glass but as you don't have both makes sense to change other 👍.
The difference between the glass is as I mentioned in the comment in the previous video - Audi gave an option to pick either standard glass, or the Acoustic Glass package (front glass and usually front side glass (never seen it in the back doors, but maybe just my luck)). Its the same as with the front glass, where you can have metal-covered acoustic glass or like three more versions (blank white, tinted etc...) So its nice to keep them uniform on the car to keep the inside noise acceptable :) Btw in the previous video I was kinda scared to see you lift up the car without selecting proper mode (the change wheel one as you did in this one), but it is really nice to nothing that bad happened. Would be also nice to see if it needed calibration after... Otherwise really nice job you are doing on the car!

Unbelievable what you have done in a short time with the car! The Jon Olssen RS6 is brutal. I’m from the Netherlands and over here whe have a vlogger Don de Jong. He made also a replica, but the dutch law doesn’t allow him to drive on the road anymore, so he is going to sell it now.

The A6 door you bought had the optional acoustic glass (quite expensive), which insulates better and should give a quieter ride (should have a logo or smth on the glass). This is laminated glass like your front windshield. The RS6 window is the standard hardened/tempered glass side window. The acoustic variant doesn’t shatter into a million pieces like the tempered glass, so it also adds some extra security against someone wanting to break into your car.
Also this glass is tougher against thieves very hard break into the car ...and for future reference no need to take door card off to fit just drop glass abit remove outer weather strip ..slot piece of perspex between glass and clamp this will release clamp ...simply hold the glass with yer hand and drop the mech ...carefull not to drop perspex into door .
By the sounds of the video it’s also lighter and with all that body kit every gram counts!
