I saw this commercial and having just washed my childhood book bag the other day, i felt like i HAD to tell someone about how indestructible these things really are.
My black LL Bean book bag with my initials on it is nearly 30 yrs old. For the first 10 yrs of its life or so, i wore that thing EVERY DAY. From middle school, through high school in two states, and through 5 years of university, along with the all the travels taken during that time. Countless camping trips, concerts, music festivals, road trips. After college, I used it less frequently, mostly bc it's from a time before laptop ownership was widespread so it's not really for that. I still used it for all camping trips, into fatherhood.
It did, however, get FILTHY. I think my mom may have washed it some 25 yrs ago. Like in the washing machine or maybe in the dishwasher or maybe by hand I cannot recall.
I can recall, however, that it was one purchase my parents didn't cringe at the way they did with virtually anything else i asked for aside from food. One of the only times buying a name brand was not even questioned. In fact it was enforced.
Both of my older sisters had similar bags with their initials, so my parents knew it was a sound investment and one thing they wouldn't have to ever buy me again. I was probably about 12 or 13 when i go it.
Having not been washed since the turn of the century, washing it was quite a task. I washed it in my utility sink with dish soap and a little laundry detergent h and a solid hour of elbow grease.
Now that its clean, it is virtually unchanged from when i got it.

I just saw this ad on TH-cam! What a GREAT ad! It is too awesome...unforgettable! I'm 57, all my children are either completing HS, or college grads and I will remember this when the grandkids come!😂😂😂
The combination of durability and lightweight makes the Deluxe overhead, or the original under seat, helpful on airlines with restrictive 15 lbs weight limits. It’s also so not a thief magnet.
