Thank you Unit:E ... I was struggling with this for hours with some of my samples that were field recordings that I didn't want to fade out like an instrument. I tried Hold=Whole option (which in the manual, says it will play the whole sample without decay) but that didn't work for some reason. Your solution worked and I would have been stumped without your video. You are amazing for putting in your free time here to help others save so much time. Thanks again.
Omg thank you so much! This is the exact issue I was having and your solution has saved me so much time... I was about to start exporting my samples with increasing gain 😆 Thanks for sharing!
thank you so much for all your videos! It helped me so much. Just one question : how to your naturally make your variations flow from A to D? I look into the pattern setting, but I did not find where to program it. Thx!
Hi Brian I have followed the instructions in this video, but my loop still dies out. What am I doing wrong? 1. Does setting the "hold Mode Step to 64 cover all loops, regardless of the loop size and shape? 2. How does one work out the steps in a loop? 3. Differentiation between loops and samples: is playing/importing loops mean SAMPLES to the TR8S...or they are two different things as far as the TR8S is concerned? Thanks Brian
1. 64 steps is just what I said because my loop was 64 steps, or 4 bars. If the loop is longer, increase the steps or try hold mode "whole". 2. To figure out the steps, calculate how many measures or bars the loop is and multiply by 16. 3. Loops are samples. The TR-8S doesn't differentiate the two.
What happens if you Hold the steps longer than the loop? Will it tag on silence and would it need to finish the entire steps before retriggering the loop?
The hold function is just for holding rhe level up. Setting the hold steps longer than the sample does nothing but ensure you get max volume for the entire loop
Hi bro ! You may have my solution. I can’t find a great way to sync my loops with a higher BPM pattern. I do know that I can Tune it, but it never land perfectly on time... (I’m not the best in English, I hope you understand my problem ) thanks a lot !!
Unfortunately, there isnt a super solid way to do it. Rate is a good parameter to change to speed up or slow down the loop. It wont be perfect and it detunes the loop. The best way is to time stretch the loop in a DAW before importing.
Hi ! I have a problem with a voice loop, as I'm not very fluent in english i'll do my best to explain this !-) I want to import a loop on a pattern that i'm currently working on but I don't know why when I import the loop it seems to be pitched down, I've tryed to use the rate tuning but it won't change nothing as the sample seems to be fit on +1.00. Then I've tryed to import it on another pattern (with same BPM) and this time the loop seems to be pitched up ! I don't understand why, maybe I miss something ? thanks for u're help !-)
most important things to do, in order 1) Record or export your loops at 44.1khz (16 bit) 2) in your DAW, make sure you know the tempo your loop is at. It has to be perfect with the tempo of the song you are inserting, so its important to note this If you do those two things, typically, the loops will sound perfect.
SENSEI, hope all us well and you had a good holiday. Question...I noticed that this works well when working within the same kit but if you switch between kits, the instruments or samples will just cut off and not carry over. Is there a workaround for this? For example, pattern 1 is using samples from 808, after the variation is complete, if the next pattern i am using is from another kit...samples used in kit 808 will not work using this method.
It is kit specific. If you modify a parameter on an existing kit and then save it, you should have the same settings regardless of the pattern selected. As long as it's the same kit, it should stay the same. It is NOT tied to the instrument.
@@UnitE808 ok. So what I'm doing wont work. I am transitioning from one kit to another within two different patterns. The TR cuts off my sample at the end of the variation when it switches to the next pattern and kit.
Is this the method you would use for samples also? When I use the green pad before recording, the samples play fully but when I try to record, the samples will cut out or not play at all. The steps sequencer will show the samples being triggered in blue but the sound will not come out or play a "fraction" of the sample.....
@@UnitE808 My imported looping sample diminishes in volume (diminuendo) when playing back in TRS8, even with the decay knob turned full to the right at 255. I also tried step mode at 64 and whole, but still loop dies/eventually cuts out. Why? any help please
with the UPDATE 1.10 you can play a sample like a loop without any fading simply by selecting "WHOLE" in the "Hold Mode"-Selection, just scroll backwards where you normaly choose "TIME" or "STEP" and it will show "WHOLE". Now when you in your pattern(writemode) set the first step with the trigger for your sample it will play aaaaaaall the way thru at max gain without fade and restarts at the next (or first and only) trigger within (or at the start) of your Pattern :) NOTE: it will fade while you just trigger it manualy while fiddeling in the INST-Editingmode but will play correct when you set the trigger in your pattern! (see TR-8s Reference.pdf page 31) i lost some haircolor while searching for a way to prevent fade.... :(
While whole has worked since the TR8S 1st came out, it doesn't work for every loop I have tried. I find setting the length to steps longer will yield better results. Hold mode has been a part of the TR-8S since 1.0, not 1.10. I am quite familiar with the reference manual.
@@UnitE808well, didnt know this. got my TR-8s today with firmware 1.10 on it. But thanks for your vid's! Helped me a lot in the first steps of firmwareupgrade and sampleimport :)

You can adjust the start in the shift+sample menu. It is an overall start edit, not per step.

@@michaelolaleye5215 how long is the loop?
Great video thanks Unit: E
what is the maximum steps you can put it on?
Tim Verhaegen 128, I think. I can verify when I get home
If you set the max to 128, it'll just play until the loop is over, no matter how long, however, 128 is the max you can have for a song A-H patterns.
btw, shift + start loop = Hard stop ! Great thanks !
How did you manage to get a break trough the Fill In button ? Thanks
Right! Essential to stopping long loop samples.
The break was programmed in there. You create your own fills and choose the scatter type.
Brilliant thanks!
