I just can't stop repeating, your videos about the light are the best ones. Falling in love more and more every time. No, really, you just discover the light universe for me. All these technical videos "use this box/softbox/octobox, use this, use that, use this power, angle bla bla bla" don't give you the key understanding of the light nature and understanding its behavior. That's what you do. And million thanks once again!
Confession :- started watching peter mckinnon videos got inspired but I haven't improved my photography. Your videos are very informative and i can apply to my photography that helps. Thank you.. 🙏🏽
Seconding this. I’ve found others on YT to be marginally helpful at best. Mostly hype, or it’s clear they barely know what they are talking about and are mostly regurgitating others tutorials. None of that is true of this channel. Your a good teacher. You break these known techniques down in a very clear way. And your instruction style, and editing makes for a great channel. I’d love to see more videos on how you translate these techniques in the 3D world like with Blender. But again super helpful.
Thanks Rodger! I normally upload every Wednesday but some weeks, life happens and will end up uploading the next day haha. Regardless, thanks for watching! I'm glad my videos help 🙏
I really enjoyed your videos. Your clear, slow and steady pace helped me a lot. Thank you for taking the time to make this video to share your experience!
Your videos are very helpful, I get a lot of helpful tips from it. Plus listening to your voice is never boring... your voice and intonation sounds so subtle :)
Wow amazing! 😮 I can simply use this method instead of buying a softbox light.. This will help me a lot to decrease shadows as much as possible.. Thanks and keep doing great helpful videos 👍
These are super great tutorials. I appreciate they are mostly based in lighting solutions. A key factor I can't overstate enough is the food itself. I started photography 3 years ago. That is when I first picked up the camera. To date, I have now been published a dozen times in international food magazines and had two covers. Other photographers sometimes get pissy with me about this. They think my APSC camera and entry level lighting isn't professional, yet I am the one getting published and they aren't. They think it is some sort of conspiracy that i'm being selected because i'm cheaper or something. The reality is, I am also a full time chef with over 20 years higher end experience. I know how to cook well, and how to plate in a modern fashion that is engaging. I already understand texture, contrast, colour compliments etc. If the subject looks awesome, the image can afford to be slightly more straight forward. No amount of technical, high end gear is ever going to make something super basic or ugly look delicious. The subject is the most important thing. You can take about a 5 point/3 scrim set up...but unless the food is immaculate, it doesn't matter. It has got to the point for me that I now get offers just to style, as something done well forgo's the need for retouching. It really does start with the subject..everything else just develops upon.
You brought back something I had forgotten from the old film days, All I can say thank you. Now all I have to do is see If i can find my old photo Books, Which I will!
I've discovered your channel a few months ago. Started watching your videos and now I can't stop! Your content is so full of useful information. I was kinda scared of trying flash photography before, but now I can't wait to start trying all sorts of different things (I just bought a flash and will start experimenting). Thank you so much for you incredible content and keep on going strong! Cheers from Italy
This video is really helpful, especially for self-learners like myself. I have limited resources and so this is truly informative! I wish more people would come across your channel and discover your amazing tutorials!
I know you know. But I think some of your audience might need to be reminded that by bouncing into your blinds which are not as white, it does make the image warmer. Great video as always.
Awesome Brandon! Lovely video - thanks for explaining such an important concept in such a simple manner. I personally had never heard of this before. Thank you! I love your videos
there are many video tutorials out there but almost all of the content contains advertisements and shows off the products or gear they have, to be honest I am very impressed with Figandlight which is consistent with content that provides full tutorials. High dedication, I hope you are always given health and sustenance from God. Thanks Sir
I am happy I found your channel you play with light verybwell but whenever I use soft box to light food it end up with very flat look thats why I always with 5 in 1 reflector specially for white background and I don't know the reason
Hello, Brandon! I'm a beginner at product photography and am currently freelancing for a few brands in my country. I RARELY comment on any TH-cam video but since I've been binge watching your videos I had to leave a comment saying 'THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING'. I've been learning so much about artificial lighting from your videos and now I have saved enough to buy one. JUST ONE QUESTION- if I make a long term investment which one would you recommend- the Godox SL 60W or the Godox SL 150W? Also, what's the difference between SL60W and SLB60W? Eagerly awaiting your response for making up my mind.
Wow thank you so much! I appreciate it 🙏 That's awesome! If you have the budget I would go with the 150 simply because it's brighter. You'll have more options in terms of camera settings. And the "B" I think means that it's battery powered. The SL 60W needs to be plugged in in order to operate and the SL B60W can be operated without needing to be plugged in to an outlet. Hope that helps!
@@figandlight helped a lot! Just one more question if you don't mind (because this is the only time I'm actually getting proper answers related to photography!) Since I have a small studio space, do you think it's better to go with a 150L or two 60L as both of them costs the same as a single 150L in India? Would that give me more options as a fill light?
@@SoumitaDas-fk3qo No problem! That's a good question. Two lights would be really nice to have, you'll definitely have more options in terms of fill light and even some creative applications. My only concern is that you said your space is small so having to setup two lights might be a hassle (and even counter-productive in some cases), but if you're okay with that and want the extra options, then I'd say go for the two lights. If not, I'd say you can still create some amazing work with just one light.
@@figandlight I agree, a small space with two lights can be difficult to set up, I think I should go with just one for now and upgrade later if and when required. Thanks a ton for helping me out, please keep making more and more videos using artificial light! Much love and respect!

I never heard about book lighting, and I watch like 5 photography videos a day. Is this the best photo channel on YT?

I really like this simple motiv without the exzessive use of unnecessary props!
