I prefer the Sarco as an early game anything-killer.
Easy af to tame early game and is useful throughout the game. I've used mine to kill rexes, spinos, anything really (Except like a giga or some crazy shit). It's also not a bad water mount, and decent but not great speed on land.
The bary is okay, and I recently got one, but they're a lil low on the health side and easily die in the places they are meant to. Still not bad, but not as good as the Sarco imo.

AssassinAiden8 this makes me mad. A spino killed my pteradon my 4 parasaurs *only one survived luckily survived* and my ride carbonemys
Another fun fact, the baryonyx was likely the barrier of evolution from land to water to crochadillian type dinos. As the spinosaurus actually had short legs, and likely walked on all 4's, probably incapable of standing or running like in movies or video games. Additionally it's sail probably served as an endothermic heat grabbing device and nothing more, example, the sail was directly fused to the actual spine, so say the JP3 scene where the spino is up on two legs (scientifically wrong now) and kills the rex, all the rex would have had to do was bite it's sail in such a confrontation, and would have paralyzed and killed it instantly. Additionally the teeth average from 2-3 inches (many under that size) in a spino. The rex however had... Well lets just say Bannana teeth. judge your penis wisely .

Remember that baryonyx deals bonus damage to amphibious and water creatures (spino, sarco, piranha, coel, salmon, megalodon, etc) but they are easily immobilized by bolas
Not anymore, their drag weight was increased. Good for pvp, bad for pve.
i'd say theyre both pretty equal. In terms of taming, they're both very easy. You just need some narco berries or narctorics depending on the taming speed the server has and some fish. They're both easy to immobalize, I clubed my Bary the first time while i tranqed the Sarco with a bow. Sarcos are very slow on land so just stand on some rocks and fire, and a Bary can be bola'd then hit or tranq it.
Like you said one is better on land and the other better in the water. Bary prob makes up for its lower attack points and meh turning radius in land speed and tail stun, while Sarco is slow on land which can be annoying, but perfect in fast water travel.
In my experiance i feel like I like Bary more because i struggle with turning on a Sarco (i.e. I have to come back two times to get 1 fish vs the bary i dont have to move much) and i need them to be fast on land too. But Sarco is a pretty nice damage dealer and easy early game mount, it can be your first even, just be careful because mine almost killed me the first time because it lunged at me out of the river lol.
i'd also add Bary can also be your first mount, but it'd be more dangerous to find because they spawn in the swamp and you'd have to deal with sarcos, titanaboas and Kapp's among other things. I was lucky on my spawn because there was a Bary in the delta on the Footpaw. Though since they are also fast on land, be careful and give them the raptor treatment, they have less aggro range tho so youre gonna have to dangle your meaty bits or shoot it.
So Bary can be a bit harder due to travel speed and where they usually spawn since the Swamps are dangerous, but aren't too hard if you're counting on how to tame them
Also im going to go back to the fish point after testing my bary and sarco, Sarco kills it on the first go but i have to circle back to eat its body, which is hard because Sarco seems hard to angle for it.
Bary at a signifiganty lower level kills it and collects its body in one bite. So i'd say Bary is also very good for an early game fishing mount.
Also while i havent gone into caves yet since this is a perspective from a not exactly a noob but not expert, I hear Barys are good if not one of the best or the best cave mount.
And im testing a low lvl tamed Bary, and not a generations bred, high lvl imprinted and mutated Bary with a good saddle.

that makes them both equally easy to tame. a sarcho u just kinda stand up high and arrow him up . a barry you just pick up with an argent and throw in a enclosure and shoot through a window .

Sarco is easier to get and find, while Bary doesn't spawn commonly.
Also, Sarco stamina and swimming speed are better for gathering underwater loot drops in maps like Valguero.
You forgot to mention that you can bola a baryonyx. Really useful for taming, but probably really annoying for pvp

This is like a lemon and an orange TBH.
They do the same sorta roles, but in very different ways with different abilities.
Water: The baryonyx is absolutely the king of dealing with mantas and sharks. But it’s not *that* fast. The sarco meanwhile is a rocket and actually pretty good at fighting the aquatic big boys. The sarco is also amazing at getting to the small underwater caves.
Land: The baryonyx just wins. It’s the king of caves, it can fight anything the sarco can, and it’s faster to boot.
I use the Bary for the stun really easy to kill megalodons

Mine got bugged and suddenly died for no reason... he was at his full hp and then his hp was very low.
It was an aberrant sarco. I suggest not to tame it, always go for the Bary, better on land and also better in the water.
Great comparison! I like that you recommend both because it annoys me how so many people say "baryonyx is better so don't waste your time with anything else." The baryonyx is great but the main thing that prevents it from being the best is its underwater speed. Yeah it's stronger but sometimes running away is still the better option.
sarco is literally one of the easiest tames in ark, you just walk backwards and shoot him with crossbow
i’ve literally never used a single tranq on a sarco. Because of their length and general body shape, you can literally just hug their side and punch/club them until they get knocked out, assuming there are no other carnivores around to fuck you up in the process. You can do this no matter the level though obviously it would take far longer for higher leveled dinos.

Tom McClure I would say scorpion wins because the araneo takes forever to tame and sucks at absolutely everything no offense to it though, also S1pg8r had one and never used it because it was below average

Sarcos are very helpful on most maps, but a bary is very useful on abb
I would argue Bary wins in water too, that stun is way better than extra speed Sarco have. Hes fast but he wont outrun Stingrays still. Bary can stun them. And he wins on land too. And he also lifts you up from ground so you take much less hits and also raptors have harder time to dismount you . Just a class better creature from Sarco, they have similar stats but they are not same league.

There both really good times but I would say the bary is better at fighting in close counters in water in the sarco is better in the larger areas sense you can speed to that advantage
Tame creatures are actually stronger then wild creatures I figure this out when I did and went back to get my sarco but then in the kill chat it was blowing up it killed 8 titanobas 2 baryonx 4 kaps and two other sarcos it was still alive also a punch of dilos bugs and fish all where on decent lvls or higher then my sarco and my sarco was lvl75
After all of that now my sarco is lvl 81
Were you on single player? Is so turn single player settings off and see if it will live after that
I just had my 209 level sarco killed by a 109 level Bary :( that stun attack sucks when it's against you.
I have no idea why people prefer bary after the tlc patch the sarco is one of the fastest dinos in water and a very reasonable speed on land and can take most things on land within reason the bary is only good in water and its not even that good

Bary is better. Their stun will mess you up on the back of a sarco. Even knocks you off of a tuso. Freaking bobs.

How do you get your game and graphics to look so smooth on console? I’m on a ps4 and my ark doesn’t look anything like this. Not sure if you’ll see this comment on a 5 year old video but it’s worth a try. I haven’t found any tutorial on TH-cam that even remotely comes close to your level of graphics.
Could you do an insight between the equus and the pachy? The two that can do torpor damage with their attacks.

Just seeing the title I can answer the question: Baryonyx
The only downside of the sarco are the raptors and the kaprosuchus since both of them can knock you off your mount. I had this experience when I first tamed a lvl 28 sarco it was killed at lvl 52 by two raptors because that one raptor knocked me off my mount and killed me and I spawned back at base. I didn't know that there was a tp function so yeah it died. The baryonyx might be better since its taller than a raptor.
Raptors can dismount you all the way up to a spino so 💀

Sarco is my favorite, but these clown developers still havnt fixed sarco attack radius glitch, so many creatures walk into its head and it ca t hit them unless you do 180 spin attacks
Also the annoying tendency to make small dinos despawn if you cover them with the sarco’s head

Honestly I’d say sarco is much better early game and even late game early game I had a lvl 200 one I was wiping megs mosasaurs literally the king off the ocean super fast and gets you 5000+ fish meat in 10 min
He forgot to say that sarcos can attack and it will turn them from that attack making it even better to turn

The Baryonyx is obviously better. Better in combat, and has more utilities than the Sarco has like being the best cave mount in the game. The only downside is that it's a lot harder to tame than the Sarco. But in general, the Baryonyx wins and you guys know that.
