Nelle, thank you so much for telling your story to the poeple on the internet. I found your channel because I got hearing aids earlier this year and I feel very comfortable with them. The difference between „on“ and „off“ is unbelievable. I only got moderate hearing loss - I never realized that loss before. All the others were mumbling…. 🤷‍♂️ So thank you and keep us („the people“) informed. Ingo.

Hi, Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you're getting on well with your new hearing aids. It sounds like they've made a big difference to your life. I'll be sure to keep you informed about my cochlear implant. I'll getting my surgery on the 13th of October. I'll make sure to take some photos with the bandage on my head.

You are so positive - stay the way you are. I cannot believe that you lost your hearing only months before…. All the best for the 13th. Hope you‘ll end up with 99 % - 100 % with your CI (not 75 % - even 75 world be great, wouldn‘t it?).

Hi nelle, I was wondering if u have an audio gram for your hearing. Like can u hear better in lower or higher frequencies? Cause I need to choose an implant device and I was wondering what to get. I am 13 by the way! Love u. Great vids keep it up ❤❤❤

Your a really lovely lady Ellie your boyfriend is super lucky to have you! I have to say your super bubbly at the moment maybe it was seeing your boyfriend & your cat! I have had cats all my life!
You are really excited about your cochlear implant! All the different makes etc! Maybe get a family member to film the switch on when it happens! It would be nice to hear your other interests! Your not just a deaf person! But a lot of your subscribers would love regular updates on your current hearing aids & hearing loss & when you get your CI and what you can hear etc and maybe come Christmas a two month update!
You were brave telling your story on you tube! It can't have been easy! To go from full hearing to very little hearing in a matter of days or weeks must have been horrible! My hearing went gradually, but it's losing my sight that worries me! Being DeafBlind asking for help is very scary! I was given training to use a long cane with a roller tip! I went out at night & it was horrible!
Also you will find by the end of the day your hearing will get worse it's called hearing fatigue! You had all day trying to hear what people are saying & hearing aids turned up full! It triggers my tinnitus! This is a new experience for you! It's not like putting on glasses & instant better sight! You looked nice with glasses in the other video but it's hard having glasses & hearing aids all on the same ear! Did you have to have physiological assessment before they would agree to give you a CI? I know you were warned of the risks but I can see the implant working for you as you seem like a fighter! And my hope for you would be for you to hear your wedding vowes! And further down the line hearing your children & not being in a muffled world like me now & you to some extent! ❤️

Hi again, thank you for your comment. It was really nice going back to see them even if it was just for a short time. Maybe at some point I'll be able to rope Will into doing a video with me, but I'm not sure he would feel comfortable being in a video.
I am sort of excited about getting a cochlear implant but to be honest, I'm terrified about the surgery. I'm pretty sure it will be worth it though. I will definitely get someone to film the switch on and keep everyone updated with my progress.
I was really nervous to start making youtube videos, but I'm glad I did. I know it might sound silly, but I was worried people wouldn't believe that I really lost my hearing over the course of a week and would think I was lying or exaggerating for attention. I feel very lucky that I haven't received a single mean comment yet.
I can't imagine how stressful it must be going out on your own without hearing or vision, but I really hope you learn to feel more comfortable and confident with time.
With regards to whether I had a physiological assessment before getting the cochlear implant, I'm not really sure. It feels like they have done every test imaginable on me so probably. I have been told that I am a very good candidate for a cochlear implant and am determined to make it work.
Thank you for your positive wishes.
      All the best
      Nelle

@@nellefindlay this is no way your making your deafness up! Who would stick earmolds in their ears & hearing aids on their ears! The reason you not got bad comments is your open and honest about your loss & how scared you were losing your hearing!
Yes any surgery is risky but the benefits will out weigh any risk! But your face at activation will I am sure blow us all away!
With your boyfriend having a hearing loss too he understands what your going through! Plus on a lighter note if you have an argument you can just take your hearing aids & silence! Haha!
I am so happy the NHS can fit you in so quickly but your young & have a good chance of a CI giving you back some hearing! And the plus side if it's a success being under 30 they may well implant the other ear! As a lot of CI users have said they have bionic ears! 😊
When I was being considered for a CI I had to have a mental health check as it's a big expense & if I did not use it or like it then all that money would be wasted! What made me laugh was a young lady about to have a CI was not worried about the scar but it ruined her hair style!
Anyway like all hearing aid/CI users I am wishing you every success with the implant! Your young with so much positivity! There will be tears & swearing but you got this!
      Best wishes Barry 🧡

Hi Nelle I hope the cochlear implant surgery went well yesterday (13th) and the surgeons are happy with the way it went! I expect you got a big bandage on your implanted ear & dosed up with painkillers! So sending you my best wishes & I know you will update everyone when you feel up to it! You have got over 100 subscribers now which means you are doing something right & your hearing loss journey interests a lot of people! And may help others decide whether to first get hearing aids or to get a CI and to raise awareness of what you went through & to seek help! so rest up & hope you heal quick ready for activation! 💜💜

Hi, thank you for you comment. I'm currently in the hospital with a massive bandage on my head. I'm really lucky because even though I'm getting it on the NHS, the surgery is at a posh private hospital for some reason (I'm definitely not complaining).
It's literally like a hotel room, posh soap and everything. They even have a Dyson fan. I've taken loads of photos and will put them in a video soon.
Thank you for thinking about me.

@@nellefindlay thank you for taking the time to reply so quickly after the operation! You did say it was a posh hospital! Its one step closer to you hearing again all being well! Now two weeks of dirty hair!🤣I look forward to the video when you feel up to it! I expect u will be going home today (Thurs) must feel strange for you only hearing out of one ear & harder for you to work out what's being said! Good job also you can wear contact lenses as glasses would be impossible to wear!
We both ended up profoundly deaf for different reasons & both hoping to hear again! I bet Will & your family are glad the implantation went well! I know u had problems with your balance so I hope you will be ok! Enjoy being waited on there! Thinking of you! 💜💜

That's great that you're all set to get the cochar implant next month. I hop every thing goes well for you Nell. I got some one you should google I don't know her personally but some one that lost her hearing like you Nell. She is a former Miss USA 1998 that lost hearing the same way as you Nell her name is Shawnae Jebbia Miss USA 1998. She loss 75% of her hearing to menieres disease just like you did Nell all at once but she did not loss as much as you but 75% is lot to lose and she lost it with in a year right after becoming Miss USA 1998. Just some one for you to check out that went threw that same thing as you. Have great week Nell.

Thanks for your comment. I had never heard of her before. Thank you for letting me know about her. Most of the information online about Meniere's says that people only start losing their hearing years into the disease but it seems that isn't always the case so it's good to know about other people who have had the same thing.
I'll keep TH-cam updated about my cochlear implant experience so you'll find out how the surgery goes. I hope you have a good week too.

Hi Nelle I hope your now home resting after your implantation! From what I have read u now probably got plasters covering the site behind your ear where you were implanted! Must feel strange having total silence in that ear! & Limited hearing with your hearing aid in the other ear! So I wanted to wish u all the very best! Like you I am waiting to hopefully hear better! As at the moment I am profoundly deaf! Even with hearing aids! But I hope when my new hearing aids on the NHS become available I will at least hear voices!
I am happy your sharing your hearing loss story with us & what it's like having a CI & what u will hear when switched on! As if these new hearing aids don't help i could be going down the CI route! All the best Barry 💜

Hi thank you for your comment. I have got steri-strip things behind my ear. To be honest, the hearing in that ear isn't any different to when I didn't wear my hearing aid before surgery, so it's not that strange. I have had really bad vertigo the last couple of days but that has mostly sorted itself out now. I have got some photos and everything from the hospital and will make a video about the surgery when I feel a bit better.

@@nellefindlay once again thank you for being so open & honest right from the start! Of course before surgery u left the hearing aid out of that ear so there would not be much difference! The worst part now is the wait for your ear to hear ready for activation! What annoys me the most are the adverts for invisible hearing aids that disappear inside your ear canal! It's like saying deaf people should not show their hearing aids! If the audiologist said to me that my next hearing aids were the size of CI processor's or bigger I would take them in a instant just to hear something again! I can cope with a silent world when my hearing aids are out! But I just want to be able to understand speech again! It's no fun being profoundly deaf! ☹️ But at least the implant centre will offer workshops in how to make the CI work for you! 💜

GOOD LUCK! I hope the implant surgery goes well tomorrow 13th Oct! I know what it's like to be profoundly deaf! But I would think the hardest part would be the month waiting for activation! & Only hearing a little bit out of one ear with your hearing aid turned up full! But if anyone can do it you can! So sending you my best wishes! You have a great family & boyfriend to help you through all of this & followers that care! 😊😊😊

Thank you so much for your positive wishes. I'll be sure to keep you updated as to how it goes. To be honest, the main thing I'm concerned about is that my hair is going to be disgusting, because I have to wash it with hibiscrub before the surgery and then I can't wash it for 2 weeks.

@@nellefindlay thank you for being kind enough to reply! You do have nice hair! & I expect it will be greasy after 2 weeks! But if it was 20 years ago you would have a big scar & a lot of hair shaved off! I have only known u a month or so on here & by emails but what impressed me from the first video onwards was how determined you are! I have not a clue what a CI sounds like! Only what I have read but I can see you will do everything in your power to hear again! You have top surgeons & what I have read the best processor! We both now know what being profoundly deaf is like! & We both hope modern technology will help us! Once again I hope the operation goes well & any update would be very welcome when you feel up to it! Your experience might help others to decide whether to have a CI or not! Anyway its now the day of the operation so once again I wish u every success! 🤗🤗

The cholcar brand is made by the GN Resound Hearing company and will work with the Resound high power hearing aids they will sink up together. This from what I her don't have enough hearing loss for cholar implants just what I her. If there like their hearing aids they will work great. I have had three pairs of Resound hearing aids and they're great.

Guess who called you Ellie not Nellie! It would be nice to (hear) about your hobbies! All the brilliant stuff with the swords etc! All the stuff u did before losing your hearing! What I want to ask u was since u got the 2nd hearing aid have you been back to get them adjusted?when I got new ones I went back in a month to make sure I got the best out of them! I know hopefully in 3 weeks u will have the op,but u will still need an aid for your left ear! a tip a someone told me was a week or so before the op to turn off the hearing aid in the ear your getting implant as for up to 4 weeks u will only be able to hear out of the ear with the hearing aid in & it gives your brain a chance to get used to that! When one of my hearing aids broke I had to go a week waiting for it to be repaired! I struggled to cope with one & left it out! But I expect u got it all sorted u come across as a very organised person! I have read lots of excellent reports about the procceser your getting! Brown will look good! Can't wait to see what it looks like on you! I am glad u like cats! I have had them all my life right from my farm days! I had 5 now got one as I lost 2 to old age this year so now I got a black Tom aged 14 named mojo! Look forward to your next video! Maybe what u missed since being profoundly deaf? My weakness is steam trains on the preserved railways I know yawn 😊

Hi, thank you for your comment. I might make some videos about my hobbies once I'm back at my normal home. I'd like to get Will involved too if he is interested. I haven't gone back to get my hearing aids adjusted. It was such a faff to get them in the first place I really can't be bothered, especially with the cochlear implant surgery so soon. I'll definitely start using my right hearing aid less before the surgery so I can get used to just hearing with my left ear.
I'm sorry to hear about your cats. I'm glad you're looking forward to more videos. I can't criticise other people's interests when I have a bizarre fascination with cleaning supplies and kitchen gadgets.

@@nellefindlay thank you for all the lovely replies! I would just like to say it's been quite a week for me! I was allowed to see my doctor to review my medication & update my medical history! That's when he said it was down on my records I was autistic! Ever since my mid teens! So that's why I find it hard to interact with people & get scared I will say the wrong thing! I just want to pass on 25 yrs experience of being deaf & I try to help newly deaf people using hearing aids for the first time! I can relate to Nelle using powerful hearing aids & trying to work out what's going on around her! The worst part for all of us deaf people once the hearing aids & CI's are out we are still profoundly deaf! By the way I love your strippy jumpers! More please! Your not as bad as farmers we were clones with the same check shirts & even caps! I was not a real farmer until I got a check shirt! Plus I now no why the milking parlour was so clean!
