    Its so much fun to see the drivers changing gear, to see the flames out the exhaust. Technology hasnt changed things for the better imo :(

    22.00 It's bizarre Mark Oastler says "These guys need to work together " That's what Mark Skaife and Neil Crompton do to this very day as commentators.

    I was at the first Clipsal 500 and attended many since. These cars were indentifiable down to a H pattern Gearbox. It was total skill to navigate a street circuit having to plan gear changes and braking points. COTF killed my passion for racing and it’s worse now. If TCM can maintain a field of historical cars, why not the main game? There’s still plenty of commodores and falcons. I hate the F1 style parades. Yes, I’m old school.

    What side is the gas pedal on with right hand drive cars?
    Is the brake in the middle?
    Idk if I could have the same throttle touch with my left foot as I do with my right...lol
    Having to shift with your left hand would be awkward to me too

    • @Not_A_Cat
      @Not_A_Cat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Pedals are the same. Right foot for go, clutch on the left.
      It's only the steering wheel that swaps sides.

    • @anels9
      @anels9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Why? Do you honestly watch the races to see how they shift? I really don’t get why people are so upset over it. The sequential box they have is what it would be, except paddles instead of a stick

    • @ls1pr3dator9
      @ls1pr3dator9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@anels9 cause it takes a different talent for a H pattern, the sound of the drivers skipping gears and the massive flames from it was a reason a lot of Australians fell in love with it. If we go to paddles then it’s just watching another GT series and tbh I can barely watch it now it’s so boring, aero has a huge effect so they can’t follow anyone anymore and the cars are so far away from production!

    • @anels9
      @anels9 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ls1pr3dator9 well isn’t it great they’re uploading all these old videos then? Indycar is very exciting but I don’t sit and get excited over gear changes, like wow Dixon just went to 3rd for that corner, could’ve sworn he was going to stay flat in 6th 😂

    • @kristianmitrovski3101
      @kristianmitrovski3101 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@anels9 with the flappy paddles, it’s almost like there’s no thrill. With the stick they have to use proper skill whilst juggling anti roll bars on the fly. Avoiding compression lock ups and over revs. As a punter, it’s just getting more and more boring the way things are going. Imo

    • @anels9
      @anels9 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kristianmitrovski3101 i still dont see how from a spectator pov, its going to make much difference.
      if you want an aussie series that has race cars you could buy from the showroom WITH H PATTERN, maybe those "fans" should invest their money and time into tcm

    Lowndes luck in 2000 was abysmal, if not for bad luck he would have won the opening 7 or 8 races in a row, the lead would have been insurmountable, and we'd have seen Lowndes staying in HRT and winning everything from 2001-2003, until Stone Brothers stepped up.
    There is an alternate timeline out there where Skaifey was left with only 2 championships and Lowndes ended up with 7 with HRT, remaining competitive towards the second half of the 2000s when Skaifey's age started to affect his performance. Who knows how many championships he would have ended up with after that...
    He wouldn't have driven the best looking car ever in 2002 and been robbed of a Bathurst victory by a plastic bag, he also wouldn't have been robbed of the 2006 title due to Holden collusion and unsportsmanlike actions in the final race.
    While I'd love to see the alternative reality where he won 2000 without the bad luck at the start, I think I prefer this reality where he won Bathurst in 2006 like he did, then again in 07 and 08, then again without Whincup a bunch more times.
    What else did he lose due to luck?
    - 1994 Bathurst due to that lapped car (this one is iffy, he might have still lost the lead)
    - 1995 Bathurst due to engine
    - 1998 Bathurst due to tyre failures
    Even rewatching his 888 days, in 2013 he was plain faster than Whincup at the start thanks to his talent overcoming Whincup's honed perfection in car set-up, due to the new cars being largely unknown factors, but a blown tyre cost him the opening round and another blown tyre cost him his championship run at the end, with more awful luck in-between.
    I think Skaife still has nightmares about losing that Bathurst to Tander by millimetres after being double stacked behind Whincup 9001 times and having to catch all the way back up over and over again.
