Good video, but a long shot of what it looked like when you cut back all, and a long shot of how it looked when it grew out….would have been incredibly handy visual.

Hello and great video on your cornus , i was wondering if you have any tips on pruning Davids viburnum , i have a 4×9M bed of it and it's all long, woody and spindly with some new stringy shoots about 1M high struggling to get some light, i have hard pruned some of it and wondered if i should do the whole lot ( renovation/rejuvenate) prune.
    Thank you
    Stuart from scotland 🙂

I've had great success with hard pruning a Popcorn Viburnum (V. plicatum). After pruning, it filled out beautifully the following season and bloomed profusely the season after. You might want to consider thinning the branches to enhance light exposure and improve air circulation.

@@Gardeningknowhow thank you , the viburnum we have is around 27 years old and has had some pruning from previous ( gardeners )and i think it now needs a good prune to re-invogorate it , any light prune we give it will just expose all the spindly woody stems. Plus its also great seeing it sprout away with its new lease of life in future years.
Thanks so much for your response and happy gardening 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

You can propagate a dogwood with a cutting: www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/dogwood/starting-dogwood-cuttings.htm

My red branch dogwood is overgrown. I'm able to work on my flower gardens this week. Is it ok to take the branches down as low as I can in the late fall or do I need to wait until February?

It is recommended to wait until late winter or early spring. Pruning now may force the plant to put on new growth which may get damaged over the winter months.

Why is my red branch dogwood branches spreading out not up?

Many types have a wide spreading growth habit. Remove the oldest stems every 2 years to encourage newer branches to grow tall.
