@@EasyJayce I think I’d watch it again, if only to catch anything I may have missed. For me, personally, this movie made me think a lot about love & when you know you’ve captured it or if you’re even ready. It showed me that sometimes surrounding yourself with the right people can do a lot & it showed me that letting go of something can be easier than holding onto it. On top of all of that, I just had fun. It might not be a perfect movie but it meant a lot to me. I’m so happy I got the opportunity to watch it because this isn’t the kind of movie I’d ever have chosen to watch outside of my job.
i think the issue for me is that it was advertised as a murder mystery, so I was disappointed when there wasn’t really much of a twist. However now knowing what the film really is about, I loved it!
The twist was rhami and Anya who we thought were Allie’s , turned out to be nazis , telling Christian and general to tell a different all while tripping off LSD the final speech in the room where it’s revealed he had been drugging Margot , his sister , and that the only thing they cared about was money and power and pushing political agendas? Did the whole movie go over everyone’s head ?
i honestly enjoyed it much, not because of plot but because of how lively these characters are, they feel like an actual human being. everyone in the cast did a wonderful job!
I’m so happy there are some people that saw what my mum and I did in this film. We thought it was a charming and very fitting method of unraveling such a plot with such characters.
I agree with you on this. So many people are used to the very typical ways to construct a movie that they can't enjoy something different. It does hop a bit more but I enjoy it, when there's a mystery afoot there's a back and forth. The character building was lovely!
I enjoyed it. I’m starting to see that the less I know about a movie before seeing it, the better experience I have. I didn’t see a trailer for this so I had no expectations nor did I know the plot. I had the same concerns about the directing and script in the first couple of minutes. It look unpolished but at the same time that made it more authentic. Once I accepted that, it became a great film.
I stopped reading reviews and watching trailers for movies a long time ago because I also realized that when I went in cold with little to no info, my enjoyment of films became greater.
I saw the trailer and I still enjoyed the movie tho I didn't really understand what the movie was about, really it just had all my favorite actors so I was easily sold. I didn't really have alot of expectations so I was satisfied. Feel like one of those movies I'd watch again from time to time
I asked myself, “why am I watching 3 trailers for a film that I already want to see?” Then I quit and it’s a lot more enjoyable. If I watch a trailer I will only see the first teaser and that’s it. I still haven’t watched the trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 yet.
It's probably about 15 or 20 minutes too long, but otherwise it was enjoyable. The three leads have great chemistry and the cinematography and costumes are beautiful. I love Margo for really leaning into offbeat character roles rather than just leading lady roles that her looks would dictate.
I went into this knowing nothing. Like literally nothing. Loved it. Each actor that popped up that i knew was fun and interesting. The tone and plot worked well. I like dark comedys that arent afraid to get serious. Overall i had a good time
It was a movie I always had a smile, liked the camera of feeling you were apart of the conversion. Looked like a fun movie to act it...but somethings were too random like the French singing and some characters.
The song singing was actually pretty factual, I used to buy a lot of vintage and antique items, any time you would find a stash from the late teens thru the 30s it would include many song sheets depicting war songs or overseas stuff, even postcards of that time had war song lyrics on them to send overseas to the soldiers, it was what they did in beer halls and regular life back then, everybody had a piano and a party wasn't a party unless they all sang getting together.
I liked this movie because it didn’t have a big bad guy or objective. Some times I like a movie that just walks through life and doesn’t have any “movie-isms”
That’s exactly what it was! It felt real, and real life is everywhere and overwhelming at times, and these characters are supposed to help US with coping with the world and our emotions by showing them on how they deal with hardships. There’s meanings within the lines, and I don’t think people were reading between the lines. This is what happens when you go into movies with a certain mindset, if it doesn’t meet your “expectation” so you say you didn’t like it or it was too much.
Margot Robbie Christian Bale John David Washington Rami Malek Anya Taylor Joy Robert De Niro Mike Myers Michael Shannon Alessandro Nivola Matthias Schoenaerts Chris Rock Andrea Riseborough Timothy Olyphant Zoe Saldaña and Taylor Swift By far the best cast of this year

Scooby Doo plot in 2+ hour movie. If they had eschewed all the extraneous characters and sub plots, kept the tone more even, with a manic pace it would have been so much better. Anya Taylor-Joy's and Chris Rock's characters could have been cut completely. The movie didn't even need the general's daughter's death or the trouble with the police to keep the movie plot along so there are three more characters in the bin.
the movie settings "cars, clothes, war stuff, houses, lighting, music" from the past was the best part of the movie. a nice semi-mystery movie loosely based on real facts. 😎 thanks 3.4 stars

Loved the characters in it and was entertained by them throughout the whole film Bale being the absolute driving force and stealing the show, despite the 7-8 people who got up halfway thru and left so not for everyone I suppose. More of a slow burner tbh action and violence used kinda sparingly but really in your face when the movie calls on it. 7/10
This movie is not confusing at all but it is a bit lackluster at times. It’s a good movie, not a great movie and overall, it does feel like a slight disappointment because of the level of talent and craft involved. But it’s a shaggy dog of a film, not a stinker. I agree that some of the pacing and directing could have been better and it could have used some trimming to tighten it up, but it was still enjoyable overall. I couldn’t help but think about how much it reminded me of something The Coen Bros could have maybe executed a little bit better. It’s not the masterpiece some might have been hoping for but it is a good movie and I had a great time watching it.
I agree. The length and pacing drag it down. Otherwise, it had good moments and was a good story. With better editing and pacing, it could have been a Jojo Rabbit type vibe. It could have been buttoned down in 90 minutes rather than two hours.
we left the movie in the Act 2, it was so boring , there was so much unyielding conversations, very disappointing. Cinematography was beautiful, acting great, not a good experience.

I watched it last night. It was pretty fine. Wasn’t terrible like I saw everyone making it out to be. It was very long than it should’ve been and could’ve had some scenes shorten. I like Bale’s performance along with Washingtons. I liked the trio’s chemistry and a lot of the cast did their part well. The ending where Burt is explaining to us what happened to the bad guys confused me but I hope that On more rewatches, I’ll get it more. Also I thought how Anya’s character was basically simping for De Niro’s character was pretty hilarious so there’s that😅
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about this movie lol I’m still excited due to the cast, but I hate American Hustle despite the amazing cast. When it comes to David o Russell, its either a hit or miss for me unfortunately.
It was great to see Michael Palin reprise his Ken character from Fish called Wanda. I am pleased his stutter has cleared up. Apart from that the film was " joyless" ( with the honourable exception of Anya Taylor Joy). Give it a miss.
Despite how much I despise David O Russel as a person, I without a doubt admire his films. Surprised Margot Robbie and Taylor Swift signed up for this since David is notorious for making actresses break down in tears
Sometimes ya gotta let the narrative of the film do its job... and when a narrative is driven by a cast of big ticket stars, it can be hard not to resist taking the direction you did... and missing the whole point. I'd suggest you enlighten yourself with some background facts like Mr Russell did... the dialog in the last five minutes of the film are solid gold nuggets for the world we face today. It's okay, though the whole point of the film was to illuminate the very reason why you know so little of the story and why it matters. The Business Plot and Major General Smedley Butler is factual history as suppressed today as it was in his time... so smearing the movie is actually an insidious reenactment of the film as is the character assassination of Russel.... Today we stand at the precipice of the Business Plot 2.0 finally finding (or rather forming) an ethically challenged, morally devoid, narcissist sociopath who happily agreed to take the money and toast the "gang of five".... you might want to do a little research and watch it again... its not all that bad... other than its truth.
I'm a Taylor Swift superfan & honestly completely forgot she was in this film. Feels like they dropped the ball a bit with the cast - almost too many cooks in the kitchen from behind & in front of the camera. Not terrible, atleast
The film had a great cast and good in recreating the atmosphere of the times, but the script was decidedly weak, and the plot and subplots were all over the place. You said that you could easily see the direction the film was going, and that might be true in the sense that after Taylor's murder we knew that some conspiracy was going on, but what? After the first hour of this two-hour film was over, I still had not the slightest idea. There were too many characters and too many side plots that might or might not be related to the main conspiracy - which appeared to be to make the military take over and create a dictatorship, but how they contributed to that goal was not too clear, and their plan seemed to be as convoluted as the plot. Some parts were not clear even at the end. As examples, what was the significance Margot Robbie collecting metal shrapnel from the bodies of men she operated on and turning what she got into art? Why did her brother keep her on drugs and psychiatric evaluation? The relationships of the three main characters were not well-written either. Why was there such a close bond, and then Margot suddenly disappeared for 15 years (as did the MI5 and FBI guys)? If all the conspirators wanted was Robert De Niro endorsing their cause, all the other actions seemed peripheral or not necessary. The acting and atmosphere were good but though there was great potential, everything together did not add up to a great film. I would give 6 out of 10 according to IMDb scale.
way too long, and could've been edited as more of a murder mystery. the quirky dialog feels repetitive and gets tired quickly. performances were on point for sure. a little all over the place, but not bad, definitely not as bad as the reviews say
I would compare it to Bullet Train because both have big names in this industry, but bullet train gives us what they promised, in here, I think they didn’t even know
Wow, I really can't decide whether to watch this or not. It has a low score on IMDB and yet most of the viewer reviews seem to say it's ok. Austin says it's pretty average and yet most of the comments here say it's good.
I was so looking forward to this movie, but I was very disappointed. I thought the performances were good (especially DeNiro, whose recent work I haven’t liked), but it was as if Russell used the Wes Anderson playbook, note for note. And I agree about “Joy”. There was none in watching it.
I thought the movie was great, can see why people don’t like it though. The only thing I think they should’ve done was lean a bit more into comedy, some of the dry humor or random one liners people said in the background was so funny to me
This is the 2nd JD Washington movie I've seen and while it wasn't a boring mess like Tenet was, it just felt like the payoff was lame and not rewarding for the buildup. Can directors stop having actors and actresses speak really really fast trying to act like they are smarter than everyone in the room? It's very distracting when you realize they are having inhuman conversations to drop key details that a final scene can pay off
David O. Russell........Woops.......written by and directed by.. !..but a heck of a good cast...But yeah...too confusing. And the actual dialogue was in and out the movie and was up and down and back and forth...and many times whispered...and was not coherent...and it was ..l..o..n..g.. What I got was..a good camaraderie among actors that was having fun...honing their own craft and getting paid, no matter what.....good for them... the story..could have been done way much better I think....good idea...but missed the boat.....the set and props were good... ..they can be used again... Oh well...better luck next time... Who knows..this could turn up as a cult sleeper ..in.. 2043... if we still have an earth then..?

The ending where Burt is explaining to us what happened to the bad guys confused me but I hope that
On more rewatches, I’ll get it more.
Also I thought how Anya’s character was basically simping for De Niro’s character was pretty hilarious so there’s that😅
PONNIYIN SELVAN: PART I REVIEW!
I'm not touching this because of David O Russell, doesn't seem like it's worth it anyway
This movie needed to be directed by the Cohen Brothers. It's like a script that they passed on.
Seems like the movies with the best cast have sucked the most lately lol
This movie was so boring I walked out the movies Before it ended so boring don’t waste y’all time
The film had a great cast and good in recreating the atmosphere of the times, but the script was decidedly weak, and the plot and subplots were all over the place.
Post-Production ADR is very noticeable
I would compare it to Bullet Train because both have big names in this industry, but bullet train gives us what they promised, in here, I think they didn’t even know
Why this film got bad rating in IMDB, rotten tomatoes and metacritic ?
Wow, I really can't decide whether to watch this or not. It has a low score on IMDB and yet most of the viewer reviews seem to say it's ok. Austin says it's pretty average and yet most of the comments here say it's good.
Austin when is the tickets to paradise review coming up?
I loved it great history flick
Brilliant story and cast but the direction killed it.
I watched this on shrooms and it went about how you would expect
Rami Malek 🤩😍🥰❤❤🤟✌
Christian Bale 🤩😍🥰❤❤🤟✌
Such a disappointment 😀at one point I had to wake up my friend as she was snoring so loudly 😴😴
I'm only halfway through.... I don't get why the reviews were so bad. I like it a lot so far.
I was so looking forward to this movie, but I was very disappointed. I thought the performances were good (especially DeNiro, whose recent work I haven’t liked), but it was as if Russell used the Wes Anderson playbook, note for note. And I agree about “Joy”. There was none in watching it.
David o Russel has made decent movies, but I hated American Hustle and this feels very similar.
Taylor swift went literally under the bus
i love amsterdam its one of my favortie movies😄😄😄
The 1900s were an inconsistent time
Thats crazy. Youd think for a stacked cast they would have had something special
I thought the movie was great, can see why people don’t like it though. The only thing I think they should’ve done was lean a bit more into comedy, some of the dry humor or random one liners people said in the background was so funny to me
Hidden Gem
Bale Amsterdam is ok not bad film
This is a streaming movie at best. This has Netflix all over it🤣
This is the 2nd JD Washington movie I've seen and while it wasn't a boring mess like Tenet was, it just felt like the payoff was lame and not rewarding for the buildup.
Can directors stop having actors and actresses speak really really fast trying to act like they are smarter than everyone in the room? It's very distracting when you realize they are having inhuman conversations to drop key details that a final scene can pay off
lol , this movie is good , the script was fine , quite sure it throw lots of people off, ha , i assume not much people like the yoda talk
Given the cast, I was completely disappointed with this movie. It was just plain awful. A complete mess.
I loved the movie it just got bad praise because of the director
Just saw it. Didn’t like it.
1930’s was an L off the bat
