I continue to love (on my Hyundai Ioniq 6) how quickly and simply adjustable Hyundai / Kia / Genesis makes their brake regen. Some people *love* full 1-pedal driving, some people want it to feel like an old-fashioned car and coast until they hit the brake pedal... and this EV platform adapts to any style. But you missed what I think is the best mode of all, what Hyundai calls Smart Regen. If you pull and hold the right-side paddle for a few seconds, it changes to "AUTO" in the gauge cluster, and then you can click it to levels between AUTO 0 and AUTO 3. Then, it applies that amount of regen as you take your foot off the accelerator, but also it's using its forward radar sensor to watch the car ahead of you in lane, and it *adds a touch of extra regen to smoothly "ease in" behind that driver* as they slow or stop at a light. In my opinion it's telepathically good, decelerating smoothly exactly as I would have done, so I love AUTO 1. Some people can't stand the car "deciding to brake for them", so they can just turn it off. If you still have the car available to test, you should try this mode in traffic. Great review! I haven't drive any Genesis cars, but I like the interior and exterior aesthetic.

Bought a Genesis gas Gv70 2024 3.5 AWD sport advanced this year... and boy let me tell you... the car is fucking AWESOME. I literally get into my car everytime with joy. Looks: great luxury: great performance: good Bang for your buck: excellent I looked at comparable models from Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Acura... the Gv70 takes the cake because its comparable if not better in every way besides "brand" name. Not to mention it was significantly cheaper. Cannot recommend Genesis enough. Only thing I've heard negative is that some people have had poor dealership experiences.
@1ofwon As far as luxury, it is equal to, or better than high end model BMW, Lexus, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, etc. It is not better luxury than a Bentley or Rolls Royce, but close. not sure if you knew this but Genesis is not Hyundai anymore. They are their own brand and have been without Hyundai for about 10 years. And no, in my opinion there is just the right amount of buttons. If you want a minimalist user interface, get a tesla. What's great about the GV70 electric is, it doesn't really look like an electric car, just looks like a luxury SUV. That's why I bought it. Go test drive it and the gas version. Also, if you're considering EV, make sure you have a level 2 charger installed at home. Public charging sucks.
Love the electrified GV70! One clarification, the GV70 (and other 800v E-GMP vehicles - EV6, Ioniq 5, etc) max around 245ish kW. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis say charge times on a 350 kW charger because the typical 150 kW or 200 kW chargers wouldn't achieve the charge time that's quoted. But it doesn't actually charge at 350 kW. It does have a REALLY solid charge curve though.
I've never seen more than 238kW on my GV70, but I think the 350kW is right as this is the max that it can recharge with regen braking. You just can't pull that much from the plug.. I might be wrong though.
I love that it's so easy to change the regen level while driving. Being able to quickly change how the car response, speaks to the car's design goals. It's all about comfort and luxury.
Haha. Just leased this last week. Former Volvo XC60 owner. Love that others on the road don't know this is an EV so it allows me to easily beat everyone at the lights or merging. 😈
Me too, less than 2 weeks. Came off from 2021 xc60 lease as well. I don't miss the xc40 / xc60 at ALL. As of April 2024,Genesis has a 13 month lease this month for the ELECTRIFIED models. Per Genesis offers website, Advanced trim of the gv70 Ev is 499/ month, 3999 down for 10k miles. 😮 I got 9500 cash back ("EV Lease Bonus") for the 13 months gv70 lease, now there is a 17500 cash back for the 36 month gv70 lease, cutting down another 100 LESS monthly compared to what I got. The Gv60 advanced is 469, gv60 Rwd is 379 (same 3999 down) but only max 11000 EV Lease Bonus from Genesis. .....OR ... .... Wait 1 year and you can get 10 % increase in battery capacity and EV range without any increase in weight in the gv60, gv70 or IONIQ5.
As of May 2024, Per Genesis offers website, Advanced trim of the gv70 Ev is still 499/ month, 3999 down for 10k miles. Only difference now is slightly higher 18000 cash back for the 36 month gv70 lease.

@@trstnhnTrue. Indeed, much like Mazda trying to enter the luxury game in the early '90s Hyundai had to take a few swings before getting it right. In all these new EVs a front end crash will quite likely total the car. Teslas get totalled even if the frame gets slightly misaligned by a slight touch at 10 mph.
@karankenZ well any car with a bent frame even slightly is considered totaled as it jeopardizes its safety, so insurance companies just total the car. I'm not sure how easy Teslas frame can bend but that's sad if it's fairly easy.
@@Some0ne001 In most modern cars it is super easy to bend frame. My friend got rear ended slightly on her BMW 230i and it was totalled because of bent frame. There's a reason insurance costs keep rising 10% YOY. Things are just plain stupid these days. This front charging port is not gonna be a problem since getting hit these days most of the time leads to totalling.
Am I the only one who gets excited when a new Auto Focus video drops just so I can see if Marques included a goose shoutout? This is one of those videos. It's a good day lads
I’m a bit skeptical of the charging port at the front. I Love how hidden it is however In the event of a front impact accident the front of your car is screwed along with the charging port. And your cars main source of power being broken like that is kinda scary cuz if you do manage to drive your car away from the accident, it’s broken so you can’t recharge the car later on. You’ll need to fix the charging port immediately before your car turns into a brick.
It is clear OP has never owned/driven an EV with the front charge port, this writer does and has a KIA Niro with the front port. Its the best place for it- I know from experience. As to your HANDY, built in a mental vacuum, accident; if the charge port is on the drivers side fender near the door and you are "T" boned on that side, the port is broken as well. OR, if its in the back and---well, the open minded reader sees the point. There is NO place for the charge port that cannot be damaged in an accident. And that goes for a gas car as well. Have an accident where the car and the filler tube are, and you cannot re fill the car till the repairs are made.
@@harriettanthony7352 that’s not the point tho, the same logic can apply to cars in general, you could drive off a cliff and have a car completely wrecked. You’re more likely to damage your front bumper than you are to get T-boned which is why I left the comment. If you get rear ended (which is an extremely common accident) you could roll forward and hit the car infront damaging your front bumper. Happened to my dad last month. If you knew anything about cars the goal is to minimise as much damage in the event of a crash. Hence why crash tests are done before a car goes into product. We’ve seen these design concept in many cars before, the charging port at the front is a design flaw. For example, many cars have a mechanism which drops the engine in the event of frontal crash to avoid injuring passengers. This is an example of a good safety design. Bumpers as a whole have 1 primary purpose, to house engine components and suppress the crash to protect those components along with the passengers. Hence the name “bumpers” In the case of electric cars there is no engine to protect which is great, however housing the vehicles charging port in the bumper (the part of a car with the sole purpose of suppressing a crash) is a pretty stupid idea. The reason why I brought this example up is for the event of a minor “bumper to bumper” crash. If you get tboned you’re probably not driving away regardless. If you slightly hit the car infront of you and damage your bumper you may be able to drive away, but you may not be able to charge your vehicle anymore. It’s not the same as hitting your bumper and breaking your headlights, those are negligible, charging port is not negligible because it’s your vehicles primary source of power. Without it, you can’t charge which means you can’t drive.
@@harriettanthony7352 also you can refill a car if the car cap is damaged. A car has a fuel tank, whether the tank is exposed or not doesn’t matter as long as the tank and everything else are fine. I don’t even know why you commented, I’m an actual engineer and I’m pointing out a design flaw. I’m sure the engineers that designed this car knew it would be a flaw but thought the seamless design was worth the sacrifice. I dont think you envision your examples in your head before you typed them out. If you get tboned you have worst things to worry about than the gas cap. You need to remember EV charging ports are a bunch of wires, a gas cap is a tunnel leading down to the fuel tank. Hypothetically if you cut that tunnel in half you can still refill the tank because the fuel tank itself is fine. Only way you couldn’t refill the tank is if the tunnel has been bent shut in the accident. In that case you can just open it and refill. I imagine if the EV charging port gets damaged you’d have to replace the part which may take a while to order and receive. And since the charging port is within the bumper, you’ll need to replace the bumper to house the new charging port. Meaning if this cars bumper and charging port gets damaged, you need to replace Atleast both parts. (Unless you’re fine with a dangling charging port at the front of your car)
I own the GV70 electric and I prefer the charger in the front. It makes more sense when pulling into public charger. I just sit back and watch all the other EV drivers fumble into their parking spots. I believe the Rivians charge in the front. The Ford Lightning does too.
@@TimSmith-db1iu I get that, but keep in mind the disadvantage is only when you meet in an accident which is an unlikely case. Front charging port is convenient for day to day life until you slightly hit the bumper against a wall or car and you gotta replace the whole bumper and charging port.

I've loved Genesis cars for a couple of years now, and while they are not yet in German executive salon territory yet, I think they are underrated, and I love their design aesthetic. Sadly, for what this electric GV70 costs, that range is unacceptable.
Hey there is a feature where if you hold the paddle (i forgot which side) you can turn on Auto regen mode which is supposed to automatically change how much regen you have. For example if you're following behind a car and get off the pedal the Auto Regen will stop you before you hit the car (under normal traffic conditions)
It's a clever way to integrate the charge port access to the bumper design but I rather have an obvious one in the back because it's risky on the front. That's a real big deal
I really like how the main screen dosent take over the whole dash. The inside is 🔥 but the outside is boring as hell. I absolutely love what they did with the charging port in the grille.

I test drove a Genesis GV70 before purchasing a CPO BMW iX. I liked the exterior of the GV70 better than the iX, but the BMW dealership experience was much better than the Genesis/Hyundai/Kia. The white interior of the GV70 looks good in pictures and on camera, but looked cheap in person, and the interior is much smaller than I anticipated. Additionally, the GV70 has both under and over steer when pushed. I also wasn't a fan of pushing the boost button to get the extra power when needed, as I didn't want to fumble around in the steering wheel when trying to go quickly. Pretty car, but flawed. Looking forward to the version 2 of it.
Interesting. My local Genesis dealership was much better than the few BMW dealerships I visited but naturally, this will vary from location to location. I test drove the 4 cyl GV70 and came away thoroughly impressed - 300hp is more than enough for my needs. Big fan of the exterior but it's really the interior that stole the show - yeah, white is nice but not practical. Looking for a 2 year used one haven't found the right one yet and values appear to be holding up surprisingly well. I think 99% of people really don't need that extra power and if you do, it's really not that difficult finding that button at the bottom of the steering wheel. Agree, V2 will likely be slightly larger (guessing with the addition of a hybrid) which should make it even more interesting to many... Um, have to discount your comments on Genesis styling...given that you bought an iX. I'm a big BMW fan, but the iX is not what most would consider a good looking vehicle. Those beaver buckteeth are a sight to behold. Hope you like it though...
They just got approved for Genesis standalone dealership. Right now all Genesis dealerships are basically add on to Hyundai dealership. They will have standalone genesis dealerships end of this yr. Hyundai/kia have one of worst dealership experience in the car brand. Our hyundai/kia dealership shares waiting room with service mechanics. Oil stains and with 50+ cup stainless coffee machine along with cafeteria steel chairs. Sadly dealerships are owned private and hyundai/kia won't enforce better environment for customers. They are pretty and with alot of options but they will not last long.
@@user-nifinei34jd9 dealerships should first have better standards for service department. Better pay (flat rate needs to die), AC in the summer, running water/restrooms nearby, etc. Only then is it time to fix the CuStOmeR ExPeriEncE.
I seriously looked at this for awhile back in September '23 but three things kept me away in the end - 1. There were almost no top end Prestige models available. 2. Living in the South where everyone drives 70-80 mph on highways, the mileage would be a lot less than 236. 3. Fast chargers in the Southeast are quite rare and will only be viable for long drives when Genesis cars can use Tesla chargers or future build fast chargers. I ended up with a gas GV70 and love it. Will look at the hybrid version in the future when it comes out.

Well that’s sure strange! Consumer reports, (one of the only unbiased and non-paid ranking) lists Genesis as 18 / 30 for reliability. Below Nissan for instance 😂😂
@@PJboy443 huh, yeah you’re right. Just checked in with JD Power and Consumer Reports and it seems Genesis is not having a good year. The Hyundai Group absolutely killed it in 2022 though with all 3 subsidiaries being some of the highest awarded brands. Last time I checked (roughly a year or two ago) they were leading the charts.
Common misconception that regen levels affect how much energy you recuperate. Just changes the strength of the automatic regen. If it’s all the way off, when you press the brake it’s still regenerative

Not sure if anyone noticed this, but there's a weird sound glitch whenever Marques closed the door. Haven't heard this before in other videos so something must be happenign in this car for the phone's mic to pick it up.
The "auto" regen mode on Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles is super underrated too in my opinion. The feature actively changes the level of regen based on the gap between you and the leading vehicle. Takes all the thought out of braking.
11:42 The bluetooth thing with the iPhone is the same with all bluetooth stereo systems; my Sony stereo in my car does the same thing. If you use something like Maps to navigate somewhere it will also start a mock phone call just to give you the directions.

Got this car about a month ago from the GV80. Definitely a little tight on the inside but fun to drive. Agree the battery life is the biggest hiccup you have to deal with but if you’re going electric it’s a great option. They included 3 years free charging on mine which was a huge factor.
I don’t know if you have mentioned this before but one issue with using android auto and or Apple CarPlay is those systems does not know your range. So using the car navigation if you’re going on a long trip is almost required unless you use a third-party application and preplan it.
My Lucid Air Pure was about the same price with over 320 miles range, wireless CarPlay, 350 charging, nicer, USA designed and made, more room in front and way more in back, awesome to drive, 3.4 0-60 etc etc. So the Genesis is very nice (Lucid doesn’t have the sunglasses holder) while the Lucid is just better. Love your Chanel!
I have lucid air touring, and the quality is just outrageously bad on par with or even worse than teslas. My car has been in the service 4x times within 7 months of ownership. All the software errors and and interior rattles are just outrageous. The loaner cars I received also has rattles and creeks. I have been in gas versions of genesis and their quality is far superior to lucids and teslas.
So we test drove the EV6 prior to buying a model Y (couldnt beat the price after rebate). I loved the car, but the one thing that annoyed the hell out of me, and apparently is still a thing, is the car not remembering you wanted it to stay in one pedal driving more. How is that not fixed yet?
This car has the best dashboard i have seen from an EV thus far. Then again i haven't seen that many EVs but i do love the actual physical buttons instead of just slapping a bunch of screens on the dashboard and calling it a day. This is much more practical and safer.

Bought a Genesis gas Gv70 2024 3.5 AWD sport advanced this year... and boy let me tell you... the car is fucking AWESOME. I literally get into my car everytime with joy.
Looks: great
luxury: great
performance: good
Bang for your buck: excellent
I looked at comparable models from Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Acura... the Gv70 takes the cake because its comparable if not better in every way besides "brand" name. Not to mention it was significantly cheaper. Cannot recommend Genesis enough. Only thing I've heard negative is that some people have had poor dealership experiences.
i test drove both and the EV was much smoother, quieter, and a lot faster. Different animals, but if you're in doubt go test drive both.
Public charging sucks.
obviously the ev is a million times better then the gas version of this Korean shit box

👆
Charge curve > peak charge so I'm with ya
@@stuyjcp yeah honestly a 245 kW peak is solid, but the charge curve is more impressive IMO
I've never seen more than 238kW on my GV70, but I think the 350kW is right as this is the max that it can recharge with regen braking. You just can't pull that much from the plug.. I might be wrong though.
I love how i enjoy these videos and make sure i watch them as soon as they come out even though i cant afford any of the cars that gets reviewed here.
As an owner of the gas GV70, I can’t recommend this brand enough. Such a lovely car to drive!

Is the customer service better than Hyundai?
@@ab3040 I would say MUCH better than Hyundai. In select locations, they will drive a Genesis vehicle to wherever you are (either at home or work), drop off their vehicle for you to use, drive your vehicle to get the oil change or servicing and then when complete, drive your vehicle back to you and pick up their car. They understand that the most valuable commodity for people who have money is their time. That's effin outstanding
Here in Switzerland Genesis opened Stores at the most premium Locations in the main Cities. Also they will come and get your car for service and deliver it back to you.
Yea. They just opened the Genesis dealership next door to the Hyundai when I closed my sale last week. Hopefully this will make a strong impact. The parallel headlamp and taillamp equal width strips are a master stroke of branding and design. All previous Genesis brand aesthetics were amalgamations of other design tropes till they finally nailed it.
But they only had 2 models before this design, which were the G80 previously known as the Hyundai Genesis and the G70.
@@trstnhnTrue. Indeed, much like Mazda trying to enter the luxury game in the early '90s Hyundai had to take a few swings before getting it right. So if you have a front end crash where that charging port is you could be super duper effed instead of just regular effed.
Why? The receptacle isn’t powered and not any more expensive or fragile than headlights, radar, a radiator, the hood etc.
This is a korean car brand, they aren't manufactured with the American crash/accident-centric drivers in mind.

Seems like the Canada Goose spends most of its time in the US! We have alot of them here to, in California.
I’m a bit skeptical of the charging port at the front. I Love how hidden it is however
In the event of a front impact accident the front of your car is screwed along with the charging port.
Hence the name “bumpers”
In the case of electric cars there is no engine to protect which is great, however housing the vehicles charging port in the bumper (the part of a car with the sole purpose of suppressing a crash) is a pretty stupid idea.
One thing to consider with the front charge port, now a minor fender bender can turn into a much bigger and costlier situation.
i was just looking at these and the inside seems so nice

Looking forward to the version 2 of it.
all dealerships are cringe
The "auto" regen mode on Hyundai/Kia/Genesis vehicles is super underrated too in my opinion. The feature actively changes the level of regen based on the gap between you and the leading vehicle. Takes all the thought out of braking.

How would regen braking be any more dangerous in the rain than regular braking
Im also curious how regen braking is dangerous in the rain
I-pedal mode in a dual motor eGMP vehicle always keeps both motors engaged causing lower overall efficiency.

I worked for genesis for a while(currently own a G70) and the GV70 electric solves every issue the gas version had including the fuel economy except for maybe the wheels 😅
Not really. Only 235 mile range on FULL charge.......
Please do a review of the 2024 GV80 gas version. I would love to see what you think of it.
One of your favorite things is the seat adjustment… that says it all 💩💩💩
Actually no regen (on the gas pedal) gives you the best efficiency. You still get regen on the brake pedal. AFter all it’s not a Tesla :)
FYI, I pedal driving may not be the most efficient some tests show that three is more efficient in certain configurations
No. I just went from a Tesla to this car. It’s mildly annoying that it doesnt stay one pedal.
This car has the best dashboard i have seen from an EV thus far. Then again i haven't seen that many EVs but i do love the actual physical buttons instead of just slapping a bunch of screens on the dashboard and calling it a day. This is much more practical and safer.
