29:20 My theory is that if a zombie is blocked by other zombies, it'll start bashing blocks around it. I've seen this happen a lot on my bases. Very annoying.

Having built a similar base this is my theory as well. Limited ramps up, they would destroy them. I tripled the ramps to give them more paths/room and they didn't destroy anything.

Yeah, I like the poles a bit more for the path rather than the thinner round poles. Zombies will start slapping the path a bit regularly with the thin poles as they look ahead and see their brethren blocking up the path. With the regular poles they seem to think they can still slip by to slap you. It still results in them falling off as they try to shove forward (if that is the intent with the round thinner poles).

So Ive gotten back into the game recently and ive found a hoard base that works really well.
Its basically a pit with platforms to drop down onto every few blocks. Zombies see this as a way down and dont attack they blocks much.
At the bottom, there is a square room that funnels to the area the player stands. It funnels down to a more narrow 3 blocks wide area for easier shooting. Its all in their line of sight and the same level so they dont try to hit anything.
What protects the shooters are iron bars with a block missing at head height. Zombies will see you at something they can hit and will NOT attack blocks. Usually they just flop down and you can shoot them as they stand up. If they get close you cam just step backwards and they are forced to hit the bars.
There are 2 steel doors on the side that lets you into the zombie area.
Theres a door behind you that leads to a long hallway. In the Hall, there is a hatch at waste hight to shoot over and block zombies just in case, and another steel door. At the end is a ladder to the top. Zombies dont try to get in this way.
So far I'm at day 62 and ive done more damage to the base by shooting zombies than they have. So far so good

  • @OzFugazi

the one square at the top of the middle pillar. place one iron hatch that faces you, and leave it open. they will leave the block alone, try to hurdle the hatch.. and fall off. the hatch itself should also take no damage. great base design! thank you for your "accidental" genius. all the best.

My observation is that once the zeds get within 11 blocks of the player (horizontal or vertical) they have a chance to enter destroy area mode. Thus, when they get to the top of the pole in front of the player they may just decide to hit that block. Nothing to do but shoot them to reset them. Being at least 12 off the ground really reduces the amount of damage you have to fix later.

This is a thing of beauty. I know you are calling it a "stilt base", but to me, it's a "Desert Vulture base". It's perfectly designed for the Desert Vulture. Killing 20 zombies with one bullet is just amazing. You've made something that is efficient in terms of materials AND ammo. It's beyond awesome.

My personal favorite pathing block is the Security Grate centered. You can shoot through it. it's thin and they fall. To prevent shooting pillars I use the metal truss block. I used to use the pyramid foot at the bottom but started using Guns Nerds and Steel's method. The Half Triangle plate can line up with the ramp blocks, plate blocks on the regular blocks and the zombies will walk around to the ramp up and not bash on the side, much.

Suggestion: A robotic sledge for that square portion in the center would send them flying nicely and slow them down even more, potentially making it pretty close to a true AFK base. Having them knocked down might also interrupt that pause to strike that they are doing. I don't recall, but I think the robotic sledge also deals glancing blows? You could add burning mod to it for extra dps though that might run the risk of setting off cops in less than ideal places. I'm sure the base is more than strong enough to handle that happening on the odd occasion. A robotic turret on the roof for the vultures with some spikes would deal with those pretty effectively so you won't have to take your attention off the incoming horde and zooming with a rifle.
Rifle would be superb for this base too with how long the entrance is and with Penetrator.

Great content. Much enjoyment here for me.
Have you considered using different blocks for the pillars?
    These two:
    Cube 5m Dome Middle 06
    Door Trim Corner Block
These blocks are the same strength as their full sized counterparts, use a full block space and require the same amount of material to construct.
BUT they are physically much smaller in size. The zoms seem to be less likely or able to give them a wack, especially if it is an incidental one.🧐

For people that might worry about the zombies not being able to path that far...don't. They have a range that they will willingly follow of over 2000 tiles. That's about 60 blocks up in a 5 by 5 spiral and then back down another 20 flights.

Since your not far away from the Wasteland, you also could make your base next it, enough to loot the bags when your in the Wasteland, but enough far to still be in the Forest biome to not undergo the boost of your gamestage.
    Am I understandable ? 😅

So, There is another way to stop them from hitting the sides... if you use the triangular catwalk floor, for some reason it is not seen as a pathable block by the zombies, so they will ONLY approache your ramps/stairs from head on. You use the catwalk as a sort of armor plating on the left and right sides... it stops them from trying to come at the steps/ramps from the side.

I made a base similar to this but I made the path leading to me a 45 degree incline ramp to further slow them and to increase my odds of getting headshots when shooting at them. It ended up working pretty good but I eventually had to raise it up high enough that cop spawns couldn't spit at me until they were on the ramp. Might be something to play around with when horde difficulty starts getting closer to maxed out.

I haven't really tested it on A 21 yet but I found setting a sledge turret with a burning mod on a platform to the side of the bridge and it will knock them off the side of the ramp and the burning effect seems to count to keep them from frenzying. It doesn't hit every zombie and bears don't seem to get knocked off but it does help to thin them out.

The zombies have a block damage thing going on now. They switch to it rather fast. Even with perfect paths. I used this as a distraction. My hord night base is just afield of 2x high mini columns, two spaces apart in a grid. Drive them nuts, they all stop to smack blocks, often cement or steal. You just walk by and head shot them.

I recently designed a very similar horde base which generally works fine. But sometimes the zombies bevave very strangly. They seem to want to destroy the pillar from above by attacking the path block directly above the pillar, although the way is clear. Sometimes they even run past those blocks, then turn around, run back and start attacking them without me interfering with them. And I have blocked my fighting position only with a hatch, so that cleary is the "soft spot" for the zombies. I have observed that behaviour with your base too: 29:19 You too commented on that. My path ist a 2 block wide solid block path, no transitions. Any idea why that is happening?

  • @W1se0ldg33zer
    @W1se0ldg33zer ปีที่แล้ว

I have that type of stairs at the bottom so they can go up easily and not bunch up but I did have one stop on the side stairs and beat on another stairs. So don't count on that ramp to be stopping some from randomly beating on some blocks because they'll do that. They'll stop short and pick on a block. Won't go for stairs.

  • @matthewuzulis5016
    @matthewuzulis5016 ปีที่แล้ว

For that problem area, I don't know why you even need to do that diamond kind of shape there? I'm not fully aware of all the blocks available but is there not some kind of T Pole that could be used instead? this way once the zombies get on the initial pole which seems to have no problems they just have a single line to run down.
I get wanting to avoid the look where blocks don't connect but is it worth a possible fatal flaw? once they take out that one block then they will be hitting the block behind and in front and once one of them is gone so is their path which would not take long after the initial block.
I love the idea behind this design, just would go with scaffolding ladder floor to look and shoot through and would do bars all across the ceiling just to make it easier to shoot through. But I lean more practical over looks.
I'm not one for lots of storage at the hoard base but I usually keep 2 boxes there, one with a bit of supplies like medical, ammo and weapons I only use on hoard night just so I don't have to worry about forgetting them at my standard base, and another box that is left empty for gathering after dealing with the hoard just to dump stuff into.

I didn't count the blocks when you were building but how far is that center block from where you stand to fight? I believe the tower was 12 from the central pillar which means you are standing 10 or 11 blocks away? I believe they are entering destroy everything mode still at that distance. I used the mechanic of not going into destroy everything 12 blocks away and my fighting position is 13 blocks from the center pillar and I never see that happen anymore. I think you are just a block or two too close and they don't seem to attack the pillar blocks or get knocked off easier if they attempt to....

I've always wondered how the zombie pathing actually works. For example if I say on top of the pillar at 4:25 do zombies think they need to destroy every block or do they know the pillar will collapse after 1 block is destroyed?

So like if you have a steel pillar like that one and 6 blocks of concrete (which they need to destroy to get to you) do they choose destroying 1 steel block or 6 concrete (because they think they actually need to break multiple steel blocks instead of just one)
Unless I misunderstand the "If we destroy these 6 steel blocks down here, the entire base will collapse.". So like they have no clue that destroying 1 block brings me down, but they do somewhat think about the integrity >

Holy hell, you do know that the zombies in this game path better than the Appalachian trail, right? You can do the same thing with a winding pathway. There's no need to build sky high bases. Hell, I think my next base build might literally snake back and forth like a coiled snake. The zombie freaks don't even fall off full blocks running at full tilt despite the winding pathway. You can easily get them to the point you want them at, and then to get them to fall where you want them to fall. The pathing is hardly zombie-esk but that's what The Fun Pimps have left us with.

It catches random puke streams - I've been seeing puke streams coming from behind me over my head from vultures and coming from behind from cops. Don't know how they're seeing me since I only have an opening in the front. I'm thinking maybe it's lag causing it. Wonder if this base would work over a river to slow them down even more.

I wanna just turn the base into a giant pixle art trench gun with a tripod after seeing it from a distance

34:34 Do they take fall damage in this sim?

29:56 shotguns have a slowdown or stun feature right? That might be causing the slowdown!

Watching further, the smg doesn't seem to cause the issue, only the shotgun.

He literally states his shotgun can do that in the video due to the perk.

Everyone say Demos spawn in after game state 150 but I got them last night and my game state was 120 actually. Wonder why?

are the zombie mechanics in alpha 21 still the same as in console edition , patting and so .
will the same system work on console , i really hate it that console always is left out of update's .
there still making money of the game on console in the store's but we are still on 1.18 VERSION .
probably console is seen at as a money cow to make big cash of it as soon there gold come's out , and there using pc to test stuff on ; we payed good cash to and deserve a update to, but he that is just my opinion .
    love the content

Pretty new to 7 days how can I go into a world and just build to test builds out? Would like to practice different types of horde bases

      1. Create a new world.
      2. Click Advanced Tab > Turn Creative Mode to ON.
      3. In-game, Open the Creative Menu by pressing U
Google: 7 days to die creative mode for all cheat commands.
      Have fun building.

Nah, series is almost over. Ep 18 was recorded in A21.0, no point risking weird experimental bugs for the last 2 episodes. I'll live with the weird demo bug that's in the stable branch.
I might do my next series in experimental but probably not tbh.

Rather placing a door, place a plate piece so it fills the area.

why not just use the great heist perk? the one that lets you drop 20 meters safely if you have 5000 dukes on you
