For doing a semi-FF as we saw here I think it's great. He keeps brits in their base early so the forward resources are safe. Later he gets away with the age up losing only a market and a house or two. If the fort had been in front it would likely have gone down during age up, losing a production building and giving brits half a shipment of XP.
