I’ve been following your channel since 2020. Ever since, you have been my #1 inspiration in life and you have been someone I look up to. After taking 2 gap years, I’m now an engineering student @ University of Pretoria (home to Africa’s premier engineering faculty). I love computers and software engineering, but at the same time, I have an interest in electronics, and I am having difficulties choosing between a *Computer Engineering* degree or a *Electronic Engineering* degree. I would love to get advice from you regarding this. Thank you KJ!
Thank you for your time, KJ. In computer engineering, the balanced mix of hardware electronics and software engineering modules appeals to me. On the other hand, electronic engineering delves even deeper into electronics. My aspiration is to become a computer chip designer and also contribute to the field of AI. Thanks once again for your time, KJ!
I align with this video so much. Rounding up with my masters in civil engineering while I used to code before even getting into university. Now enrolled in Comp Sci and returning to software engineering
Construction Work sucks and Civil Engineering involves much Physical work and less pay I know the pain of Civil Engineer coz I'm one myself. Mostly it's working condition. 90% Civil Engineers work in IT or Non tech sectors.
@@OiVinn-eq1ml As a Structural Engineer I design drawings in my office but I have to do regular field test to check all the proportions are according to drawing or not as u become senior Ur responsibility in this field increases

I just met up with the people from the software startup that I mentioned in this one last week! Everyone is doing great, and we are all open to try to do something else in the future
Hey, i'm currently finishing my second year in Aero, would you say I should do a Masters in Software Engineering? I like to code and I want to work in a defense/military company
Tbh, I'm also unable to choose between aerospace engineering and computer science to study at the university. I feel like I have the same thinking as yours x3
@@KJHardrict I do have experience in web2/web3 development, I haven't coded for 6 months now because of highschool. Which is really sad. But I also love rockets and space since I was 5 or so. I feel Iike it's easy to learn coding on my own, on the other hand it's really hard to learn aerospace engineering, it costs much money too. I wanna learn it to work in the domain to get some experience and create my own space company. At the same time, I have many projects I can do with coding too 😅
What's your review on Systems engineering. As I've also completed my under- graduation specialising in Aeronautical Engineering and willing to pursue my post-graduation in Systems Engineering mainly it will include Model Based System Engineering.
Systems engineering is vague, so it’s tough for me to answer. It really depends on the specific projects you’d be involved in. But I do have some friends who are very intrigued by it as well. I think it could be a fulfilling role
Money should never be the sole driving factor in a major decision like this - because it could lead to decades of unfulfillment. But it is definitely a major factor that can’t be ignored.
I actually think software engineering salaries will continue to increase in the coming years. It will probably continue to get more competitive to actually land a job, but as AI tech increases, software engineers will be needed to actually piece products together
Interesting! I’m in civil & wanna go into aerospace. Pay potential are similar. I consider tech but think it’s too competitive or saturated. But I wanna go into aerospace for passion not for money. I’d go into tech for money only
It's like you are literally reading my mind. I am in the same exact situation. Same field too. Aside from $ in tech also they can work more remotely compared to others. That's where I struggle.
No, since you’re in your mid thirties, I’m assuming you have plenty of years being a software engineer under your belt. For robotics, you’re just coding for a physical system now as opposed to a cloud distributed one. Do you have any experience working with physical systems? I’m curious why the interest now?
@@KJHardrict there are a lot and I’m just learning but I was interested in the ethical/hacking and security. I’ve also seen game development to be interesting because it uses high level math and coding. But right now I think the best way to get in is full stack. I’m very interested in the front and back end sides, and this can introduce me to security when securing my websites. So I’m learning JavaScript right now, and I’m relearning python. I took a python course in college but did not build anything useful and forgot some syntax. I finished learning hrml and css as well. Thanks for the reply! Maybe you can give me some input
I think the languages you’re learning are perfect. I’d just say to try your hand at some projects to really tie up the knowledge in your head before any potential interviews. It’s huge to be able to discuss things you’ve personally built
Hi KJ, I'm Ibrahim from Sudan, I am interested in your videoes sence 2021, because I love MIT and I whatch a lot of lectures in TH-cam and MIT OpenCourseWare, I studying agriculture engineering at university of Khartoum (It's also best university in my country), I was happy when I got on it, but unfortunately now my country in war, and the education system is locked for more than 10 month, now I live in the dark future without hope. I'm interest in engineering and energy. Can I ask you to send my massage to any university that can help me 🙏, we literally lost everything.... Thank you 🙏
