- Song is The Nocturnal House by Pretty Girls Make Graves off their 2006 album Élan Vital.
The player is a Sony CMT-EX1 manufactured in August 2000. I bought it used at a local thrift store. The sound quality is very good for such a small unit! The speakers came with the device as well.
Pretty Girls Make Graves - The Nocturnal House
bought one of these like 1 and a half years ago and then they shot up in price to like $300. They were alot cooler when they were $50, so im glad i got one then haha
For anyone who wants to know what it is its a Sony CMT EX1 yes i spent like 10 minutes searching
That is so awesome wtf!!
As a Millennial who wishes they made decent content it's weird seeing videos where it's basically "Hey, if you'd kept that particular old technology you'd be getting thousands of Likes just for showing it working" 😅. CD players are one of the few things I don't hoard, I've probably thrown out a dozen.
"Well, technically we can't see it spinning, because the CD is all one color" - Neil DeGrasse Tyson 😅
Nothing replaces the feeling of being able to watch and see your physical media spinning/working in front of you.
I'm amazed that's the closest thing I've ever seen from Sony to Bang and Olufsen. Which is the real deal. If you've ever heard of them you know exactly what I'm talking about..
Just wait till my man finds out about record players
I found a CMT-EX1 player & speakers at a local thrift store for only $13. Everything works perfectly. Definitely one of the coolest CD players of all time.
They need to bring these back.
I had this as my bedroom music system for years - it was exceptionally neat. Kind of amazed to see these now go for quite a lot of money though! The only downside was that when dust got in the mechanism it was basically impossible to clean it out.
Physical media is so cool to see working. You don't get that with later cd portables or a Spotify playlist.
I had a Toshiba vertical cd player…early 90’s😊
Looks like somebody is impressed by 1990's technology early 1990's technology
Bought it used one time and man it is my main cd player due to being able to see it spin the awesome album covers
the looks of this set is already a unique feature to me, i mean i never saw this design before it's always concealed and laying flat
There's a few of these out there, though its more common for there to be a translucent door that moves out of the way. This is probably a better idea too, as it makes cleaning the tray easier.
vertical players are so awesome. i have a Philips that has the see-thriugh door slide up which reveals the CD holder.
Lots of vertical stereos came out in the 90s and 00s.
