This video was amazing thank you! I have a spayed female and have been learning to groom her myself. My biggest challenge is knowing how to trim her back and shoulders to get a blended look. Any advice on how to best use the thinning shears there?
Thanks The best advise with the thinning scissors and blending the coat if your trying it out so to speak. Is to cut then comb, so one or two cuts with scissors then comb. It may take a while doing it like that but when you do it like that, you have full control of how much is coming off. Because it’s surprising how much the thinners can take off if you cut, cut, cut then comb you may find you have bold patch lol 😂 some say cut underneath almost into the coat, I just cut straight onto what coat is showing on the back of the neck and around the shoulders.
I have a red n white setter, and no one will groom him in my area, i like a longer field cut in sprimg summer do you ever groom them? As i have to do him myself
I do love a clippered ear on the english setter here in north America are standard is to only take a thumb width down and leave the rest. To me it makes them look unkempt. Are their any other difference that you know of?
Thanks for the comment, not that I know of for the American type. What you said is exactly how I thought the American’s were groomed. I have one American bred English Setter which I groom and she has her ears left long too 😊
Oh no!!! The breeder should of let you know what would happen 🥲 the coat can be controlled but does matt up quickly once they are neutered. You also find once neutered some can pile loads of weight on too, the extra weight also makes the coat at the sides stick out even more. One of my bitches had to be spayed at 2 years old, her coat got bushy and she got fat!!! But I did get the weight off, managed her coat and she became a Show Champion believe it or not! No one told me (not even the breeder) about spaying and the coat getting like that the older she gets. 😢
