The state won't do that, since it costs money and 'there are instructions with the ballot.' The Democrats, however, should do exactly that, but then the far right will sue to stop them.

It’s like that in New York, too. I always put the date that I actually fill out the ballot. It seems a little ridiculous, but it’s the easiest way to deal with it.

Since the requirement for a date on the outer envelope is unnecessary because the mail-in ballots are time stamped upon receipt anyway, why is it even necessary? Voters in all affected states should vote in referendums to eliminate this practice since it only causes confusion and disenfranchisement while obviously serving to benefit the gloating Republican party.

Because this way.. it forces the voter to take a certain amount of responsibility. How many times last election (2020) did we hear of problems with the dates of mail in ballots? Besides, how hard is it to put a simple date on an envelope? You can fill out a ballot, then a date should be no issue.
Voters rejecting you? Make it more confusing and difficult to vote.
Remember - the harder R's try to prevent your vote, the more you know how valuable your vote is.

Well, as a Pennsylvanian, I can tell you, it is a momentary confusion as to what date one should put. What if you are prepping it to be mailed but might not get to the post office for a day or two to mail it? (Because do we really trust our MAGA neighbors not to snitch it out of the box if it's mail-in ballot season and our mailbox flag is up...) Does the date have to match the postmark date? --- I believe the answer to this (quite likely defensible in court) is that your signature on the outer envelope makes it effectively a legal document; when you sign a legal document you are not dating it for the date of filing, you are documenting the date it was SIGNED.
But what sucks is that the envelope does NOT instruct voters with the cues to enter the "date of signature"... and it should.

One could easily place it in a mailbox and not have it picked up until the next day. Or, complete the ballot one day and deliver it to a drop box several days later, in which case the post office never touches it.

The inner envelope ensures that no one can connect an individual's name to a marked ballot. It's a privacy thing, and in today's absurd climate of election interference and voter intimidation, a necessary precaution. The election workers record the name and date from the outer envelope so they know you voted in a timely fashion (I agree the date thing is absurd). Then they put the unmarked envelope with all the other unmarked envelopes to be counted on election day.
So what date is supposed to be on the ballot? The date you put it in the envelope? The date you mailed the ballot or dropped in the ballot box? Is there a ‘correct’ date that is supposed to be on the envelope?
The postmark from the mail is the official submission in OR and WA where voting is streamlined and accurate.
This year, go *vote*. It's the only way to be sure.
And this why the simple, "VOTE!!!!" response for how we fix all of crap happening. Voting will not cure this issue. Targeting the lobbyists and lawyers that make these frivolous challenges, on the other hand, will at least hamper their efforts. Make their names public and tell the citizens in those states who are robbing their rights for voting and let's see how "free and fair" these people want their voting rights.

If you mean eradicating the electoral college from the process of electing a president, therefore making the electing of a president democratic, I couldn't agree more but, what would make even more of a difference is, making voting run to a federal standard, so there is no difference between states on voting laws.
Making the John Lewis voting act law would help. As would charging anyone who interferes with another persons constitutional right to cast a vote, with election interference, with a penalty of 10 years in prison.

Remember the Equal Rights Amendment? It never made it to the finish line because not enough States would ratify it. So, a federal voting rights law imposing standards for voting on the various States in federal elections is the only practical solution to this nonsense.

@@frankd4875Just make the congress reps for ec state, and thus the electoral votes PROPORTIONAL to population of the state. CA TX and NY should have about TWICE as many. Every House rep should represent the same # of people. I suppose that # is whatever the smallest state WY has a population since they have 1 rep. About 500,000? A Wyominans vote should not be worth 30x a Texans and they should not have 30x the representation in congress. EQUAL VOTES PER CAPITA.

We still have time to educate the voter. If they take the time to fill out a ballot and the effort to mail it in, they need to be educated on how to fill it out and how to insure everything is done correctly to get the ballot - your voice, counted. This is just some of the dirty tricks MAGA uses to prevent voters from using their fair right under the constitution.
We need to add a return vote receipt to show whether your ballot was counted or if it was not counted.
You can check the website of the state board of elections ... well you can in the two states I've lived in at least. Actually, I don't know if this is in all states or not.
