Hey there! Here's a song that has been suggested not so long ago. It's a very unique 'Round Midnight arrangement by Don Mock which is mostly known for being a guitar educator. The arrangement is basicaly a tribute to Jimmy Wyble playing style.
The way he is chaining the intervals gives a very chromatic effect but when you look closer it's really just chord tones played in an 'intervalic' fashion... in this case; harmonizing chord tones using 6th and 7th.
This is a surprisingly accessible transcription to play. It sound complicated but when playing it, everything seems to fall into places. Have Fun!
Beautiful! Don Mock was an amazing teacher, a monster player, & one of the top producers of improvisation instruction material. Most of the deep insight I learned about improvising came from countless nights of transcribing Don's lines. In the late 90's & early 2000's it was transcribing from old cassettes with headphones--click, rewind, click, rewind, click, play. Many thanks to an older buddy who moved to L.A. in the early 80's & took classes at GIT, while schmoozing with a handful of hardworking cats that would eventually become rock stars of the guitar world, & one in particular-rock superstardom! To think i was only 6 or 7 years old at the time & in a different universe altogether... yet it was around that same time that i developed a particular curiosity for a hand-me-down toy from my older brother-a ukulele sized, red plastic guitar...with 4 out of 6 steal strings!
Not that I knew any difference...at least until [[circa - 1985 Spring or Summer]] when my big bro was home for a stretch & he explained what the sideward positioned bars (frets) were, & that you press down the string behind the bar.......he then played some of Van Halen's new album -1984 - Life Changing Moment 😱 BADA-BING-BADA-BOOM!!!🎸 Christmas 1986 I got my 1st electric guitar
Great ! Simply Beautiful
👍
Another brilliant transcription! I love discovering new guitarists through you. While I'm attempting to improve at reading (sheet music), I still find myself relying often on tab, and I wanted to ask, do you let the tab auto-populate on your notation software or do you arrange the tablature either in the way you think the guitarist played or in a way you personally find logical? Thank you for all your hard work and letting us benefit and learn from it!
Man this is a genius arrangement
Amazing
Beleza!
But can we take a minute to admire this man's profile picture? Haha amazing
Don Mock is a hidden American treasure. It is little sad that he is recognized by only the hard core guitarist.
I remember hearing this on youtube years ago. fantastic !!!
Awesome 👏
Genio!
awesome stuff
The time you put in to do all those transcriptions of great arrangements. You’re great and I really appreciate your work!
I purchased a couple of Don Mocks books way back in 1980 and they helped me break into fusion guitar. He was such a great teacher and a seriously underrated player!
Bravo Francois for all you do .Ralph Towner has a new song! 'Flow' on youtube .Would be a great project .Merry Christmas .
Great as per usual! Please can you transcribe Mike Moreno 'On green dolphin street'. Or anything by Kurt Rosenwinkle. Great use of intervals in his solo playing. 👌
I've been listening to this song a lot lately including other transcriptions from you in preparation for learning it. This is one of the greatest versions I've heard. Thank you so much for your great transcriptions.
