Lots of people overlook that speech but I think that is the best war commentary I know from an entertaining media, indicate how brutal and unnecessary war is and the outcome will always be miserable. There will never be a win side of a war and war is the most foolish thing human have invented

Your discussion made me realize just how valuable spoilers are to One Piece. Even when you already know something in advance - e.g. Luffy getting a scar - the question of how he gets that scar is still a mystery, and every major fight he gets in before that point feels even bigger because you never know if *this* is going to be the fight that marks him permanently. It just goes to show that in One Piece, the journey really is just that much more important than the destination.

Oda originally was going to have Akainu dead in this war, but his editors(I think) suggested that Akainu being alive is more intersting. and No, Whitebeard's Gura Gura Fruit was originally this strong(from how black beard is using it), Devil Fruit's power is reflected in the user's physical condition, Whitebeard was sick and still bodied Akainu and black beard, Prime Whitebeard is as strong as current Garp(since he's not sick only old his power didn't drop too much) and you can see how strong Garp is.
For all new OP guys, if I could go back I'd rather just stay off following any One piece social media on Twitter/FB/TH-cam until I'm caught up. Got spoilt with the white hair version of Luffy on Amazon lol, as I was ordering my collection of bandai namco OP figurines. I was caught up with the anime like 5 or 6 years ago, but decided not to catch up to the manga.
