I love to watch Koreans reacting to this because the lyrics are ridiculous and they all go "wtf is this" but in the end all of them, somehow, like it, lol.
Yeah, the point of the song is that people who don't speak Korean could easily misunderstand the lyrics and if you don't speak Korean and you don't have subtitles, then they could be saying anything and you wouldn't know. You would think its a good song from the music. Its a really clever concept!
I mean they made the subs themselves. I think the start was probably something that actually happened. Maybe not literally but similar. And them saying random things in Korean is them joking a little on how many Kpop songs tends to have random english sentences or words that sometimes doesn't make sense with the context of the sentence they were already starting.

No, the point is that their Korean person in the group doesn't understand Korean well enough and led them to say things that they didn't intend to say

OrdinaryKoreans I'm not sure to be honest I haven't started learning yet. But some other people I talk to who learn Korean say it's not that hard. They say hangul is easy to learn, like to read and write the alphabet.

I think the key point was that he introduced the video as a parody, so his friend understood immediately. They did take the video seriously in terms of analyzing it, but from the perspective of it being a parody. The correct way in other words.

Thank you for putting in the time to make English subtitles. to answer some of your questions, this was made by Ryan Higa a really popular youtuber and Wongfu productions, another popular TH-cam channel. There are actually three Korean/Koreans-Americans in the video. Jun Sun Ahn is from Korea, his TH-cam channel name is Jun Curry Ahn and he choreographed most of the dance besides Kinjaz part, which they created themselves.

Mo0nLitee haha Jun Sun Ahn (Jun Curry Ahn) is an actual dancer, very good at it too, David Choi is actually a singer, Ryan Higa can dance, in his own special way haha, Philip is a producer/director but he does a bunch of stuff so dancing could be one of them. Justin's an actor and I don't know too much about him besides that. But all of them are very talented. And the dancers, Kinjaz were really talented too. Those jokes never get old haha

It's less that asians are less sarcastic, it's more like it's harder for them to get the cultural context (in this case, the way the west sees kpop videos and youtuber culture in general). Foreigners don't understand when we're being sarcastic/parodic either because you don't have the context lol.

Many K-pop songs has been criticized for some reasons even here in South Korea and 'messing up English words' is one of those reasons.

I'm a hardcore K-Pop fan and I couldn't agree more. This parody is spot on! I only read the translation of the songs after I got hooked. So if it sounds good I would probably be singing "Dong Saya Dae" without knowing what it actually says. Time to learn korean haha! NIce reaction guys!

Honestly, not every Korean can understand the meaning of the parody and the humor Ryan is putting in every single video of his, but you guys seems to have a single clue and that makes me happy!
I have watched a few videos that koreans react to BgA's song at different channels, I feel like most of the koreans look at the video as a serious product. (I mean it is made with effort, but not intended for real markets.) The song is just basically a joke by looking at the beginning. Maybe the culture differences ?
I feel like that is caused by translation issues. If they knew straight off the bat that it was parody, they might react differently.
Not really, I think its more likely that they just don't know ryan higa's style. And this song is not a parody (Maybe some scenes (Big Bang etc.)), they just take k-pop elements and mash them together and create their own song just for laughs. I see lots koreans first thing they react to the song is about the lyrics. I dont understand why wouldn't they think the song is just for joke just by looking at the bad lyrics, and they think its just because their production is bad or something.
The 'super Korean' guy at the beginning, who is bad at translating, is the one who supposedly wrote the lyrics. It seems like that small detail doesn't come across very well to those who don't speak English as a first language. So instead of laughing at the terribly translated Korean, they spend a while trying to figure out what exactly they are looking at. They were most likely expecting the group to be singing lyrics like "Look at us, we're so cool, because we wear eyeliner and have crazy hair!"
I do think this was one of the best reaction videos I've seen to this song, enjoyed it a lot!

They are comediants so the lyrics are suposed to be fun and non-sense (also to prove that the lyrics don't matter to non-korean kpop fans as they point it out in the begining of the video).. i personally love this dumb american humor, also am huge nigahiga fan, every project his in has lot of quality!

That is exactly the point of this parody. If you don't understand Korean language, Kpop songs sound and video looks cool! For the international fans of Kpop, they listen to and watch Kpop music and videos. For all you know, the lyrics could be about 똥싸야돼. 😁

For the note, the 'substitutes' in the dance cut are actually real dancers - they're from a group called Kinjaz. They have a TH-cam account too, they're really good!! And in a behind-the-scenes video on Wong Fu Productions channel, all the members of BgA even got to film in Kinjaz's practice room! Just a point! : D

They're all basically famous Asian-American TH-camrs who did a collaboration to make a Kpop PARODY video. Some are second generation Korean-Americans like David Choi (known as singer song writer), Justin Chon (an actor), and Jun curryahn (known for his violin playing and dancing) teaming up with Nigahiga (Ryan Higa), a famous Japanese-American TH-camr known for his comedy, and Philip Wang (Chinese-American) who's part of Wong-fu productions in TH-cam. Then there's the KINJAZ, a well known Asian-American hip-hop dance group.
The Parody is basically about these Asian-American guys getting jealous over American girls fangirling over Kpop groups. So they decide to make a Kpop group and music video of their own based on their erroneous assumption that all they need to be successful is just be Asian, (hence the name," Boys generally Asian" and a direct parody of BTS and BigBang) and learn how to dance and speak Korean. Actually, they don't even learn how to dance but hire the KINJAZ to do it for them. To start things off, they ask David, who knows little or no Korean but relative to these guys, is "super Korean' to help them with Korean lyrics.
And as you can see, it's a recipe for disaster but a great formula for hilarious comedy. Because 1) they base their Korean nonsensical lyrics on David's little knowledge of Korean 2.) They think that by virtue of just being Asian will give them success with girls.
Like you said, they are making a parody of those foreign Kpop fans who are fans in spite of the fact that they don't understand the lyrics. Ryan deliberately makes the funny assumption that to be a successful musical artist or group what is said in the lyrics doesn't even matter. They could say something outrageous as "I have to take a shit' or 'I am cold noodles" in Korean and girls still would be obsessed.
This perfect explanation gave me goosebumps! Really thank you now I understood the whole contexts of this parody video. And wow, so many people collaborated on it. I'm gonna watch other videos of Nigahiga.

This was so funny! I've watched reactions to this music video by both Koreans and foreign k-pop fans. Most other Koreans just seem really confused by the lyrics, but that's the point! When k-pop fans watch this they find it hilarious because it would look like a legitimate k-pop video if it didn't have english subtitles at the bottom! You know that this was a video made to make fun of girls or woman (like me) that like kpop and kdramas even if we (some) don't understand korean. They said at the beginning that why we (womens) can like those koreans guys just because they look handsome and have abs.((as a joke) and that's why they make the video with thise words, vecause we just go for the rhythm and the cuteness of tje guys even if some don't understand anything that they singing. Thanks for taking it as it is FUN, nothing offensive and yes most of them are Korean and Chinese. The dance group is very famous and win a very important competition here in U.S.A. t.v. annyeong!

To go into further explanation (I apologize if this had been said before, I didn't go through the comments thoroughly) three of the five of them are Korean. Phil Wang is from Wongfu and he's Chinese American (GD imitator lol). His channel (he works with other people) has a lot of good content film wise. Ryan Higa used to have the most subscribers on TH-cam (he's pretty famous like what someone else has said). Jun Sung Ahn (안준성) is a Korean violinist that's known for his Kpop covers. David Choi is a Korean American musician and he has a lot of original compositions. Justin Chon is also Korean American and he's actually a famous actor (crazy ass dude on TH-cam though haha).
Their nationalities are already said before but thanks for more detailed information!

the lyrics are actually the joke. They purposely misinterpreted the lyrics even though the "actual meaning" is suppose to be something like "Eh girl, we're perfect for each other" or smt like that
