Wow I ate SO MUCH.. 😂 This trip happened right after I tore a ligament in my ankle.. & so I could barely walk & it kept swelling up (also took taxis literally everywhere haha 💸) which is why there was minimal sightseeing & mainly eating lol My other secret is that this trip was actually spread out over 8 DAYS, but magically edited it into 4 days 😉
The golden statues look like Billiken that was created by an art teacher in Kansas City and came to Japan in 1908. It is also known as "The God of Things as They Ought to Be". The original Japanese Billiken went missing from the original Tsutenkaku Tower around the time Luna Park closed in 1925 and a wooden replica was placed in the new Tsutenkaku Tower in 1980. That one in turn had gotten in such a bad shape by 2012 that it was replaced and he now resides on the fifth floor observation deck of Tsutenkaku Tower. The Glico running man was put up in 1935 as an ad, and he has changed his look a few times since then and the current version is generation 5. And of course he changes a bit to celebrate events and when Hanishin Tigers are playing.
I am Japanese, originally from Japan (Tokyo), and you definitely know better than I do loool. I now live in the US, but I will plan my next Japan trip based on your videos. Thank you so much for loving where I am from and the culture!
"Glico man" is the special character for the caramel candy from Ezaki Glico, one of the top confectionery makers in Japan. The name is derived from glycogen, an energy source inside the animal body. The advertising blurb for the product is "Just one piece helps you run 300 meters," because it has 16.5 kcal which is necessary to run the distance.
The gold character that you kept seeing is called Billiken, a "god" in the area of Osaka. (I say "god" because he has only been around since the early 1900s, and was invented in America) It is said that his arms are too short to scratch the soles of his feet, and so he will grant good fortune/luck to any who will scratch them. You should do more food/drink vlogs Sarah, you picked some awesome looking stuff to show.. This was a great video. I love how Kyoto has held onto it's traditional architecture, it looks beautiful there.
No amount of food or drink can defeat our Aussie girl! Seems the only kryptonite is a small Italian plumber! 😂 Great video as always, delicious food, stunning views, and a gorgeous host! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I’m going back and binge watching your videos in the midst of a very anxiety ridden time. I am also folding つる to occupy my mind. Thank you so much for this wonderful moment of peace in the midst of everything! Take care!
Wish you had made this video BEFORE we went to Kyoto (just came back from a 3 week trip), so many nice places! Oh well I'll just bookmark them for next time ;) TY!
Thank you for Osaka & Kyoto tour! You have shown and selected so many places. It was nice to see so many things to visit (like boat trip). Also previous Ninja training with Tokidoki team resulted good hits.
so cool to see this much of osaka and kyoto very grateful to sara for showing us but I am glad I did not watch this hungry also I hope her ankle got better!
Thank you so much for another awesome video 👏👏. I've saved this to my Japan wishlist 🇯🇵. With all this food you ate Seera, how do you stay so slim 🤔. Love 💗 and hugs 🤗🫶
Sarah have you thought of leaving a list of the places that you have reviewed ? It saves us having to sit down with pen and paper making notes on the places to go in kyoto and Osaka...
@@seerasanWe got two drinks each! The Marteani, the otsukaresamadeshita, and then two off-book bartender's choice drinks! Joe took out his notebook and made us two unique and awesome drinks he's been working on. We mentioned we heard about them from your video, and he said he remembered your visit! It was the perfect first thing to do after arriving in Kyoto!
Since I saw the community post, was very excited to see this one. LOL. (Although it's like the middle of the night here, so I'm going to get real hungry real quick dammit...)
@@seerasan I might actually order something off delivery now cause of this dammit. LOL. But nice video, I gotta take notes for when I go Kyoto/Osaka next time!
Once again loved your video. You have no compunction. You come from a beautiful country of sunshine and infinite sandy beaches whilst showing this exuberance and love for another far of land and culture so diverse from your own. I think this adaptivity is is very rare. PEACE! Once again I love your videos keep them coming. Wish to visit Japan soon.
You look gorgeous as always. I am glad to see someone loving coffee as much as I do. When I was in Karlsruhe my nickname was Coffee Dante. This is is one of my favorite videos. Really enjoyed it. Thank you. Sending Love from SanDiego. 😊
Wait I was the first comment?! And THAT’S what I chose to say?! 🫠 On a proper note, I’m so looking forward to Kyoto cafes! April can’t come fast enough 👏🏽
18:15 i went to the abeno harukas building in front of you. the view there was amazing. glad you went to shinsekai though, it was one of my favourite areas in osaka
I had to stop the video at the okonomiyaki and walk away it was making me crave it too much. One of my favourite things to eat in Japan (or anywhere really). Hope your ankle is better.
I will be taking my first trip internationally to Tokyo Japan on November 17. I have been watching all your videos, you have helped me so much. Thank you😊
Eating/drinking up a storm, mate :-) And compliments on your mad ninja skillz. Best wishes from a fellow Aussie. P.S. I was able to beat "Super Mario Bros" on the NES back in the day, but I swear the arcade machine was more difficult (so don't feel bad).
"I usually find a lot of bars each time I come." Drinking problem confirmed 😅 Thanks for this video though. I'm currently planning an itinerary for the next year/year after and I always base it off of food first lol. This has given me some ideas ^_^
Does anyone know the name of that kushikatsu restaurant in osaka that she had for dinner with the Udon? I looked up kushikatsu restaurant osaka and.. well let's just say... there are SO MANY! lol
so those golden statues are called Billiken which are called the God of the Way things Ought to Be, people tend to pray at them for good fortune in business, schools and love and there is a myth saying rubbing their feet brings extra luck fun fact they were made by an American artist called Florence Pretz back in the early 1900s
All this delicious food...and I'd been looking for more ideas of places to go when I eventually visit Japan. A note about Super Mario Bros. arcade...it is a fair bit less forgiving than the original NES/Famicom version...and later stages are completely different from their home counterparts. I could speedrun the NES version (was able to beat the game in just under 6 minutes at one point)...but I never made it past World 6 in the arcade version (but at least my initials were on the top of the scoreboard at the end 😜). And all the various sort of carnival games looked like fun (while the corked rifle and throwing a ball into a basket are things that happen often at fairs here in the States, I believe throwing shuriken wouldn't happen here, heh...but I'm pretty sure I'd have fun with it, as long as I didn't fumble it sideways). Looks like it was a blast indeed. Hope your ankle is feeling better these days 😊.
According to Glico PR, the founder got the idea of the logo(glico man) from kids running in the shrine. He also thought that logo would represent health that matches the company’s principle.
So I visited Osaka this summer and we did an organised food walking tour. We were told the reason the Glico logo is a running man is that a single Pocky stick has enough calories in it to give you the energy to run 300 metres. I hope it's true!
I literally thought you were calling the prizes poop, im thinking to myself, no don't do that, the lady is right beside you, but then i saw the key chain type thing that was shaped like a poop 😂 i hope your ankle heals quick Sarah.

Good choice, it’s honestly my fav Japanese dish!

The Gate Hotel rooftop bar was a great suggestion. Enjoying coffee and french toast and taking in the view as I write this. Thanks for the tip.
Love to hear that! Enjoy the view 😍
So glad to watch this whilst eating dinner! It was like getting a tour of the places you visited ☺️. Glad your ankle is all better as well 🥳

Love the video. Saw u around Yanaka ginza a few weeks ago but was a bit shy to say hello.
Thanks! Feel free to say hello next time :)
As a foodie travelling to Japan soon I thank you for this video ❤
Osaka is the best. Good food, good vibes. Better than Tokyo.
Loved this. Clearly the coffee is good there as Australia has such a coffee culture, you’d be a good judge of quality and taste.
Yes! Being Aussie has trained me to spot good coffee spots only ☕️

Glad someone else agrees the arcade version is way harder!! 😂
Next time you're in Kyoto I dare you to show us the ninja cafe you briefly worked at...
Great ninja skills! Didn’t see you for the last meal 😂
We stayed at the Gate Hotel Kyoto and it's great! Just the breakfast was a bit disappointing
I’ve been using iced hojicha and whisky for a while. Didn’t know that was a actual thing
LOve those night time views of Osaka.
But I am wondering if there is anything to do down by the harbor at night.
Where do you put all that food I gained ten pounds in Japan
