⚓️Sky Erupts: Lightning & Rain Clash with Crane Ship in Duluth!

- Boat Friends,
Lightning and thunder set the stage as the BBC Challenger, a 479-foot ocean-going ship, arrived in Duluth, Minnesota, on August 3, 2024. This video captures the dramatic scene of the ship navigating through steady rain and frequent lightning as it delivered project cargo from China to Port Terminal. As the BBC Challenger approached the Aerial Lift Bridge, it gave a powerful horn blast, greeted by a response from the bridge horns, creating an exciting moment amid the stormy weather.
This was one of the most vivid displays of lightning and thunder I’ve seen while recording ships in Duluth, adding a unique atmosphere to the arrival. Despite the weather, people gathered to watch, making it a special event for anyone interested in Duluth’s ships and dynamic weather. This video showcases the perfect blend of maritime activity and nature’s intensity, offering viewers a memorable look at both the BBC Challenger and the weather it faced on its way into port.

hank you so much for the Drive over the Bridge. I MISS LIVING ON PARK POINT SO MUCH.
Parkpoint is one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth. It’s such a gem that many people don’t know about. You have everything you want there. Including the ships.
Capt Mike ... always a great ride with you! Thanks for the bridge drive, too. That is a really nice, interesting ship ... huge cranes!! Thanks, too, for braving the elements to make this one ... stay safe, warm, and dry!!
I really enjoy those big ships that have the cranes on it. They’re definitely is a variety of ships that come through Duluth. I plan on possibly doing a live stream this weekend.
Happy Friday! We missed your ship videos, thanks for being out there in the rain ❤
Rain rain go away, but the ships can stay!
Hey Mike! Last Friday I was in Duluth for a trip and I SAW MY FIRST FULL ON SHIP GO UNDER THE BRIDGE!!!! It was the burns harbor and it gave a double salute! And Amazing video to!
I’m so happy you were able to see that powerful ship! Were you surprised how quiet that ship is going by even though it’s that large. It’s unbelievably amazing watching those powerful ships that close.
I’m a retired Coast Guard Officer and I was stationed in Duluth back in 2004. I used to watch these ships coming in and out all the time. Glad I found this channel.
Thank you for your service! It means a lot to me and many others. It’s people like you that served our country that allows me to make videos like this, and others to do what they want too. Thank you!🙏🇺🇸
Do you have any cool stories or experiences during your service in Duluth?
@@revnation_auto We tease you Coasties as Active Duty Enlisted Sailors. Yet, only in gist. I respect The United States Coast Guard Sailors. Bravo Zulu shipmates. Your careers are so exciting.
I think it’s so cool to see the Coast Guard vessels. I really think it’s cool when they break ice. They also put their life on the line. They step up to the plate when anybody needs help and they are in trouble. Big-time respect for the Coast Guard.
Welcome to the group, best on the tube. That you for your service brother from the Army to the Coast Guard. Peace!
Great to have you on Mike's channel...hope you stop back often.
This is the first time I got to go on the bridge. Thanks!
I’m glad driving over the bridge was kind of a hit! Many people have asked me what it’s like. I just added it into the video. Thanks again for taking time to watch and to drop a nice comment.
Thanks Mike, I ❤ your voice and dedication to Duluth I live in New York City and enjoy everything that you do on this channel ⚓️👍✔️
Hey friend! How was your evening going? Thank you for taking time to check out this video. I’m sure you saw this before but not too long ago. I was in New York City and I was at my favorite spot on the roof in Brooklyn. I always go to this place when I’m in New York City. It has the best view of the downtown skyline and the Brooklyn Bridge. th-cam.com/video/lqGPbUI_Ygc/w-d-xo.html
Once again, you've captured the weather, people and ship to share with us -- and in less than stellar conditions for you! Thank you.
Hello my friend! It’s always fun capturing numerous different things on watching these ships. There’s always something fun going on. There’s going to be many live streams ahead for us and the weather will be turning.
The vibe with Mike, his old-time and real-deal roving reporter style, makes his channel a joy to watch. At 1:29, I appreciated the ride over the lift bridge into the town proper, which gave a glimpse of the city and the enthusiastic crowd.
Anytime I get to think about Arizona. It’s a good thing! I’m a sucker for the Phoenix area. I love Scottsdale, Glendale that whole area. Thank you so much for taking time out of your evening to say something really fun and positive.
Thanks Mike! I was born in Duluth in 1951 but live in Vancouver, WA, now. A friend out here told me how intrigued she and her husband are with your posts. Then I told her that I know Canal Park well. I will be back there in late September for a wedding and will definitely go down and take some pics there. She’ll think I’m a rockstar…or something.
That is great to hear! You are arriving in Duluth at the right time. I want you to be prepared for the ships. Here are the two tools that I use to determine when the ships will be arriving or departing in Duluth. Keep in mind, there is no sure thing because of weather, speed of loading/unloading, etc. However, if you use all three of these together, it’ll really help you know what’s going on. Here are those tools.
#1
This is updated by Duluth Harbor Cams, this one can be accurate too, however, it’s all about when it gets updated as well. They do a good job. harborlookout.com/ships#0
#2
This will help you determine exactly where the ship is in live time. It’s extremely accurate. The app I use is called “MarineTraffic” and it has a blue ship for the logo. You will really enjoy it! You can research vessel names and follow ships all over the world. You can download it on your Android or Apple phone.
Thanks for braving the thunderstorm to bring us a really neat video! Cool when you drove across the bridge. Like the extras like showing the weather! Little kid came out in you as you splashed thru the puddles!
Absolutely, the kid came out in me with those weatherproof boots and a big puddle. I knew I had to jump in it. I will take all of this rain over a lot of snow though. So I was OK and I stayed pretty dry.👍⛴️
Hi Mike and boat friends!
Another excellent video !
Location in the lake and doppler of the active weater excellent !
Beautified ship
Raised pilot house for looking over large deck cargo
Wondring the speed limit on thr bridge ?
Noted you zipping over
Need a few rubber ducks in the puddles !
Also a bird on the pole hangin on riding it out !
When a ship that big slips by so close it never gets old
Breathtaking!

Have a great day
Carl, I was very impressed how tall that superstructure is on that ship. It seems like a pretty tall one. I really had a fun time recording this in that type of weather.👍⛴️
Never been this early!! Love it, Mike! Excited to see a video on Friday! Have a great weekend!
Hey, I wanted to start the weekend out with a bang or in this case, thunder, and lightning! It was really fun seeing this with a ship
Hi Mike. Thank you for sharing another great video.

It definitely was a cool looking ship and it was really fun being able to capture that lightning and thunder in this video.
Hello Mike
Gerald from WV. want to thank you again for all you do. I should have moved there than to these wonderful mountains. Again thank you and have a great night
Hey Gerald! If you ever do move from West Virginia, we will welcome you here with open arms in Duluth👍⛴️
Not heard from you for a wee while Mike. But great to have you back and really good video. 🙋♂️👏👏🏴
Mike, how are you my friend! How’s everything going in your great country? The weather is turning for us here but those ships keep moving.
Hi Mike! Ed and Marnie from Temecula, Ca. We are now in Iowa but really enjoyed this live broadcast. Thank you for this so we can stay involved with our hobby we love!!!
Hey friends! My friends from California. How’s the weather there in Iowa? I bet it’s cool? It really cooled down in Minnesota and it’s been actually lovely. Having the temperature the way it is right now now. I plan on being on the boat this weekend and possibly will be doing a live stream from the boat.
Thanks! Again for a GREAT video always appreciated what you do !
Jeremy! What a nice person you are! Thank you so much for supporting this channel. I have a lot of fun things in the mix coming up for all of us. If things work out with the schedule, I’ll be doing a video from one of the ships this weekend. From the deck by the way! It’s really nice of you to support the channel like this. Serious, have a wonderful Friday, you really put a smile on my face. I promise I’ll have your back when it comes to these videos moving forward.👍⛴️
Thanks Mike!! Raining and it still looks great!!
It was really cool to capture the lightning and thunder in this ship video. It’s the first time I ever recorded this ocean ship in Duluth.
Awesome video, Mike! I would’ve been right there in the rain as well. Nice looking ship! I spend a lot of time watching the LIVE cams across the Great Lakes and I watch boat traffic on my phone also but nothing beats your videos and commentary!! Thanks brother for all you do!!
I would’ve had a rain jacket all set for you, Doug! Trust me, the fun is just starting because I can’t wait to get out there when the weather turns bad and I can show you how tough these ships are👍⛴️
Really awesome video and such amazing ship , we had rain ,thunder and lightning here in Cave City KY today as well be safe and have a nice weekend, and thanks again for the ship
I want people to learn more about the beautiful town of Cave city! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cave_City,_Kentucky
Hi Mike! That's a really cool ship! It looks a little small at first but going past shows the power and grace. A real workhorse. Good job dodging the lightning! Stay safe❤❤❤
Susan! Let me first tell you, thank you! Thank you for being a channel member. Thank you for supporting the channel. It was really fun recording that storm with the lightning and thunder with a ship. That’s the first time I was able to get lightning recorded with a ship. I’m gonna be doing live streams coming up so get ready my friend👍⛴️
Excellent Editing!!!! Wonderful Video!!!! Have a Great Weekend!!!! 🤗❤️👍🙋🏻♀️
It’s really fun getting around in the rain. I’m glad that my camera didn’t get too wet. I was able to get the thunder, the lightning and the ship altogether.
Hi there Mike and Boatfriends! Thunder, rain and a fantastic ship this was awsome! Thank’s for this one Mike😃👍
Hey pal! It’s Friday! It’s Friday! Do you see me dancing over here? I’m really looking forward to seeing all of those ships in the winter, maybe I’m not really looking forward to the cold, but it’s really really fun watching those ships when there’s ice on them.

And a happy Saturday morning to you Mike. Hope all is well. You are an amazing friend for all of us in all types of weather. What a great looking lady of the sea with that super structure and huge crane. Hope all our boat friends are safe and healthy. Until next Mike and everyone from Easton, Pa, also in the rain. Peace!!
Hey Scott, happy Saturday right back at your brother! This was a fun ship to record. All of these oceans going ships have such a unique different look to them, but they all have those awesome cranes.
Thank you for filming your trip across the aerial lift bridge. I’ve never seen one. 90 degrees in Brownwood TX.
I’m glad that you mentioned that! So many people have been curious about that bridge so I thought I’d drive across just to show you what it was like
Great boat. One day I'll be in Duluth.....
I can’t say it enough. Another fun interesting great video. Thank you and most importantly your and your efforts are very appreciated
Thank you so much for the positive comment on a Friday night. I look forward to live streaming and ships possibly this weekend.
Only the most diehard ship fans venturing out in the rainy weather. Mike is on it, sloshing through the puddles for us! Mike, you were probably the only one there with the proper attire and footwear. 😂Great looking ship and thanks for the drive over the bridge! 🚢❤️
I definitely will take rain over snow any day in Duluth! We both know that that cold will be coming, but it’ll make for some fun videos
The Challenger video is awesome. The huge cranes were something. First container ship I've watched go thru the Duluth Harbor. You be safe with that t-storm in the area. I had a strike close to me but more on that later. Thanks for the great video. Be safe as always.
It was really cool recording the ship with the lightning and the area. I will take the rain all day. Ron, however, Snow, that’s another issue.
Hey Mike!!! Haven't seen much from you lately. I hope you are well.
Thanks for your videos
Hey, I’m ramping up because we’re going to have a lot of action when the weather gets cold.
Nice video ! Thanks Mike!
Thank you so much for checking out many of these videos. It’s really really cool of you to leave a nice comment as well.
This was really fun!! Sure wish you would send some rain my way. We are so dry!
I have to tell you, Peg, I actually stayed pretty dry because I had all that rain gear on recording the ship⛴️👍
Wonderful, Mike! Interesting ship and my kind of weather
I love rain! Best weather to sleep in. How have you been? I hope you had a great week so far!👍⛴️
@@vibewithmike We've had a dry July and August here in Texas. We had some rain this week and it was such a blessing! Been well - preparing to move from the corporate world to entrepreneurship. @lavenderlamp I wish you the best of luck in your new business venture!
Thank you. I have enjoyed your video. I live in Michigan & have been up to the Soo once. I am from Tacoma, WA originally, driving right by Puget Sound daily to work. Miss the open waters where I live now. Just loved this. I will check out your other videos. 😊
Penny, I really want to get to the locks at Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. So many people have been there and told me how wonderful it is to see the ships that close. I really have to get there. How many ships did you see while at the locks?
Hello Mike and Boat Friends! Happy FriYAY! Nice boat and tug action! Thanks for being out in the elements for us, Mike. Just be safe out there!! ❤
Nothing cooler than chatting with the person that has an awesome profile photo of one of the ships! I told you, every time that I see a comment from you really makes me happy. Awesome ship in that photo.
Thanks Mike! While in Port Huron last weekend, I captured several more ships going under the Blue Water Bridge, including 2 cruise ships!
@PaulaH-fr8rfreak I have to make it to Port Huron
Yes you do! And you have to make a quick stop in the gift shop in the DoubleTree hotel, they have many, many shirts/hoodies with freighters. There's also a restaurant there called Freighters where you can watch the river, and boats while eating. The restaurant is almost under the bridge.
@PaulaH-fr8rfreak my friend Chuck, who is on this channel told me about many different new places recently. I’m really looking forward to checking out a lot of these Great Lakes places.
I’ll take some messed up hair for this ship. Wonderful, Mike. Nice the see a video from you.
Absolutely, let the rain pour as long as the ships keep moving
AMAZING lightening shots!
It definitely was wild to be recording the bridge and see that lightning streak across the screen. It was actually really cool. It was the first time I’ve ever recorded ships and had lightning in a video like this.
Hey boat friend cool video thanks Mike
Mike, I’m glad that you enjoyed this video my friend
Thanks! Kinda missed you lately.
You are such a nice person to support this channel! You really are! I definitely will put this towards upgrading some microphones that I need to get and another camera stabilizer. You are a very nice person. Thank you so much. Serious, thank you so much for being part of this channel.⛴️👋👍🙏
Always some unpredictable weather by the lift bridge. Cool ship.
Unpredictable weather, but awesome ships
If I remember right, as a child with my father we were able to stay standing on the lift bridge as it went up for a ship.
I love how many people have a connection to Duluth and the ships from a childhood standpoint. I do too.
Enjoyed the video Mike , you definitely have gotten alot of rain by the looks of it.
The good thing is it looks like there’s gonna be wonderful weather ahead. I can’t wait for that. It looks like it’s going to be next week. It’s actually very beautiful in Duluth today. How have you been? Any cool plans for the weekend?
@vibewithmike hey Mike, yes I'm impatiently waiting for the John D. Leitch , should be coming through here on Sunday I think.lol
BBC Challenger, another new ship for me to see... Great! Pretty neat looking cargo ship. Moving pretty good at 14 kn. We could use some of that rain here in East Central Illinois. It's been a pretty dry summer here. Whoa... lightning & Thunder... be careful out there Mike. Does make for a heck of a background for your video though and one heck of a way to say Hello from Duluth to the Captain and crew of the BBC Challenger. LOL... love the splashing in the water with your boots Mike! I agree love the look the big cranes give the cargo ships. Although that horn sounded more like it belonged on a VW Beatle... LOL. Awesome view of the BBC Challenger entering the canal. Looks like she was really moving! Always glad that you stick with the pivot. That's one of the coolest things to watch these ships do. And there is the Kentucky doing its thing assisting these ships in the Harbour. Excellente Mike... loved the video! ⚓🚢⚓
Ken, I was armed with those boots to make sure I could move around and it really works well because I’m able to stand by the wall where there’s a big puddles of water so I get the area to myself. This video was special because I was able to capture a lot of lightning as well as the ship arrived. I’m planning on doing a live stream this weekend as well
I loved the ride across the bridge. And, that you captured the lightening in the video.
Kathy, did you notice how unique that noises coming from the tires as I go over that metal bridge?
@@vibewithmike I did. I used to live in a river town in Nebraska that had one of those bridges with the metal deck on the bridge. Brought back memories.
@kathybottrell7159 it’s really fun living by the water so you can see everything going on

👍👍👍👍👍👍 Thanks Mike, for enduring the damp and cooler weather to bring us your great videos !!-----Michigan
Hey my friend, trust me, I’m OK with that rain to watch a ship. It’s better than watching in the freezing cold and snow. I hope all is well in Michigan.
Another great video for the books !!!!
It really was a fun one! The weather is absolutely perfect in Duluth. I know it was raining in this video, but it’s nice now for the ships.👍⛴️
Another thanks for driving us over the bridge. I'm going to research lightning strikes on ships. They are the tallest metal objects in the vast seas so they must be designed to take strikes regularly.
Bill, thank you for the nice comment tonight. It was my pleasure showing you what it’s like going over the bridge. Also, regarding the lightning strikes on the bridge, I heard they have multiple high points that ground any electrical current.
Oh man. I haven't seen rain in months! Wish I could swop you haha! Never seen anyone drive over the bridge before! That thunder looks awesome! What a crowd! She certainly has some aggressive lines! Those cranes are really cool as well! I hope you have a great weekend Bro! Stay awesome and blessed! ⛈⛈⛈
I seriously wish I could send all of this rain your way Johan! I really do. I’m going to try to get out there to do a live stream this weekend.

Hi Mike, I never realised how quickly these ships travel. I watched your video 1 hour after you posted it ( so approx three days after you filmed it ) then checked on Marine traffic and the BBC Challenger was just off the south east coast of Italy. That's just amazes me. Thanks for your great videos Mike.
Barry, that would be light speed! Yes, this video was recorded earlier in August. Check out the description I think I have the date. However, that ship would be making some good time if that really was the case.
Thats what I thought, must be me using the app wrong. Love looking at boats but not good tracking them. Lol. The best reason to watch more channel more often.
@barrysharp9792 no, this ship video was done at the start of August. So this ship was not today. It was a few weeks ago.
Greetings everyone…Happy Friday from northeast Indiana!
Hey friend! Hope all is well in Indiana. It was really cool to be able to catch lightning in a ship video. First time out, captured lightning recording the ships.

Where was the bridge response? Did I miss it??
@StephanieBenner-tj3xd when I listen back to the video I didn’t hear it either. I can’t believe that I edited that out. I don’t think I did, but there’s a possibility.
Hey Mike - you do such a great job with these videos. A little oops is bound to happen once in a while! 😉
@StephanieBenner-tj3xd have a great night.
Great video with the light show and great looking ship. Thanks!
It definitely was a late show with all that lightning in the area as the ship arrived
I enjoyed starting out my Saturday with watching this video! Each ship you feature- while having many commonalities with other ships- has its own unique attributes. I liked very much the brief segment where we “rode with you” over the bridge, as we don’t usually see what that is like! It made me feel a bit more as if I was actually having the total experience of going to the canal/harbor area. For me rain and storm was an added bonus, as I always enjoy a good rain walk….and this one had ships thrown in to make it an excellent one. (Like you, I am very thankful to own a pair of rain boots). Storms are also neat to see, as long as one is in a safe place to watch. Thanks for making and posting this very interesting video of the ship coming by in these stormy conditions.
First of all, Janet, thank you for the wonderful fun comment to Reed for all of us. There’s no doubt about it, those rain boots make all the difference! They allowed me to stay dry. I thought I’d be totally fun to drive over the bridge to let you hear that sound that the tires make. Many people have asked asked what it was like going on that bridge and I wanted to show you.
@@vibewithmike
Yes, I particularly noticed and enjoyed that tire noise on the metal bridge!
Have you been following the saga of the ocean liner United States, as the question looms as to whether the ship will be preserved, fixed up, and turned into something historic and useful (as the Queen Mary has been), or whether it will be deliberately sunk and made into a reef? Nothing against reefs, but I do hope that this once beautiful ship will not wind up on the ocean’s floor.
@janetryan9779 no, I have not heard about the situation. I’m going to look this up right now.
Boat Friends, take a look at the story news.usni.org/2024/09/06/the-fate-of-the-most-famous-ship-that-didnt-sink-unclear-plans-for-ss-united-states-stalled

It caught my eye in an article on the internet. I once saw it, as a very young child, when my uncle and aunt took an ocean voyage to Europe on it, and we took them to NYC to board. We briefly got to go on it with them before we had to disembark. Even though I was quite young, I do remember how huge and how magnificent it was.
7:52 I liked this shot in the video
I’m glad that you enjoyed the video my friend
Cool looking ship. A new one for me. Containers on board. Thanks for braving the rain.
I really enjoy seeing some of these oceangoing ships because they had so much character and a very unique look to the Duluth Harbor. I also like seeing those big cranes on the ship. It was so fun watching the ship and that weather.👍⛴️
This video gives me an idea, Mike. As part of your American Steamship partnership, it might be interesting to have them tell you about the vessel's lightning management system. Thanks for putting on the rain gear to go out and share this boat with us!
Kelly, you will absolutely hear that question. It is such a great question. I don’t know for sure but I do believe they have some type of grounding system on those ships. I will find out for you 100%.

Hey Mike, the arial lift bridge sounded musical when you drove over it.
It has a very unique sound with the grooves in that bridge as tires go over. It’s a sound that really captures Duluth if I was to give one noise besides the bridge horns.⛴️👍
Very nice and informative video, great job with that! I always enjoy watching these. We lived in Duluth from 2004 to 2007, and we watched every ship we could possibly catch.
How cool is that! You actually lived in Duluth. Did you get used to the weather?
@@vibewithmike Not really. We packed up and moved to Eau Claire after 3 years.
@utek3420 I think it’s still cool that you lived here so you know exactly exactly the area. I think Park Point is one of the most beautiful places in the world.
-
@@vibewithmike The whole area is! We lived partway up the hill, just below the cathedral on E First Street near the end of the freeway. I had a view of Superior Entry from my office window. I went down to the Lakewalk almost daily, and I also walked up the Tischer Creek trail all the time. I do miss the beautiful landscape.
@utek3420 during the summer there is no better place than Duluth. Even if you live here, you always feel like a tourist and you can really feel the energy.
I've been keeping track of all vessels around Duluth & in the Saginaw Bay now that I've moved into the bay here...
I'll say this vessel is amazing. Salties always look so magnificent and extraordinary, I think its also the fact that.. Atleast for me, I imagine what the ship had to endure out in the ocean just to get here into the great lakes.
Tonight its 50°F in the Saginaw Bay in Bay City MI tonight. Tomorrow were suppose to see up to 5-10 foot waves out in the bay here as well.. Not to mention tonight 20knot winds.
The Algoma Buffalo & Intrepid is down this way. Though the Buffalo looks like its headed out of the bay tonight.
I love all of those Algoma shifts! The color schemes are so awesome. I love watching the ships as well. And I’ll take 50° any day.
Sweet video Mike. I love these unique salties. This one sort of reminded me of the Scandinavian ships with the angles and high superstructure. At least, I think it was the Scandinavian ships I was thinking of. Anyway, awesome video as always and here's what I found on 'project cargo':
I googled "project cargo" and google AI says it is "large, heavy, high value or critical (to the project they are intended for) pieces of equipment. Also commonly referred to as Heavy Lift.
Rob, now that is cool! You gave us a little more clarity regarding the cargo. I really appreciate you taking extra couple seconds to help all of us understand this better.

I love thunderstorm evenings!! This was a wonderful video, thanks for the car ride over the arial lift bridge! A very beefy looking ship for sure with those cranes! Do you think that was the captain outside waving up at the top of the super structure?
Hey friend! How are you doing? There’s a good chance. I will be out there live streaming this weekend. The weather looks like it’ll be fantastic. It’s a time of year here in Minnesota where we can keep the windows open. How’s everything for you? What’s the temperature like right now. I did notice the waving when I watched the playback. He definitely was out there waving.
@@vibewithmike Hey Mike, it's 72 degrees and raining here, kinda dreary, but making stock with my rotisserie chicken bones.... and will be looking forward to your live video this weekend!!

Happy Friday Mike.
Happy Friday, right back to you, my friend!
That’s a different ship, thanks for braving the rain but we see you are well prepared. I was wondering if your inner child would surface, you’d treck in the puddle & you did! I see by the date that they are long gone, most likely back to deliver that cargo. Take care, Mike. I’ve been missing you.
Hey my friend! The fun is just starting now. I’m gonna get out there and the live streams are going to ramp up. I can’t wait to show you these ships live. Get ready.
Dear Mike. I missed your videos for several weeks and is my error. Nice to see you out on a rainy stormy day there in a Duluth, MN. Happy you kept safe and had no gold plated golf clubs with you [a joke i tell my friends here in Arizona during monsoon season]. 14 Knts open water. Can you imagine at 14 Knts through the channel and the wake she'd toss up. She still made good speed through the shipping channel at 8 Knts? Her bow construction screams blue water operation. Mike thank you for braving the foul weather. You ever visit my home State of Hawai'i? I actually looked into visiting Duluth, MN. Pray i can. Lots to visit and affordable. Bravo Zulu Mike!
That is one place I have not been! I want to make it to Hawaii. The beautiful culture, the food, the scenery. I’ve heard so many great things about it. Which island did you live on?
@@vibewithmike E`komo Mai, Mike, Welcome to this place. I was born, raised and graduated on the Island of Oahu. My dad is from Maui in Spreckelsville. I graduated from JB Castle High School in Kanehohe. Mike I took the NCL inter Islands cruise and enjoyed myself. The off coast and in port experiences are worth the cost. Imagine a 1/4 miles off shore experience from an active lava flow?! Overall is no more than 1 or 2 Island visit in costs. Oh...please visit Da `Aina of my home State of Hawai'i, Da 50th. @@vibewithmike Mike. Mahalo for dis video. Please visit Hawai'i. As for me is simply "home," so I am not as excited as visitors. Our 50th State has a lot to offer as an affordable vacation spot and I pray you eventually visit Hawai'i, Mike. Ahoy Shipmate
@byronharano2391 the beautiful state of Hawaii🏝️
Nice….. Mike, …. This weekend here in Ottawa….
Thunderbirds…
Snowbirds…
Red Arrows…
Are all three of them there? That’s the trifecta of awesome pilots and planes! How cool is that?
@@vibewithmike Yes Mike. All three are here.. 100th anniversary of the RCAF. So they are here to help celebrate . Hopefully the rain holds off!!!! They are a little more sensitive than ships!!
@spitfirenutspitfirenut4835 do you have no idea how bad I wish I could be there! That is the event of events! 🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️🛩️
@@vibewithmike I’m going to have a hard time sleeping, and the Thunderbirds were flying around the city this afternoon, I’m about five miles from the airport and could hear them taking off. Yesterday the Snowbirds and Red Arrows did the same.
Ever see a ship high enough out of the water to see the propellers?❤❤
I have seen some of the older ships that you can see the propeller. Did you see this video from tonight? th-cam.com/video/FyYWKYbHf0Y/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S3ICa-6OiQiKQo7X

@WOOD-BOOGER-lc4fl I really love your profile photo!
Nice to see you mike.
Hey Troy! How are you doing, brother? I hope you have a great weekend planned. It was really cool to capture some lightning bolts with a ship in this video.
Great video Mike!!! Happy Friday!
What’s up, Bill! Great hearing from your friend. How’s everything going? The weather is supposed to be spectacular and Duluth over the weekend and even into next week. I’m really looking forward to capturing some of these ships. If things go according to plan, I might be able to do a live stream on board one of these ships on Sunday. Depends on when the ship arrives.
Hey Mike! Oh man we're all looking forward to that possibly happening! Things are going well and I hope you are too! We wish we were able to come enjoy the weather!
@billford1223 we are going to have a fun winter with these ships, brother
@@vibewithmike looking very forward to it! We're hoping to get up there a few times yet this year
@billford1223 the weather is awesome. It’s gonna be an awesome drive as well in the next few weeks as the leafs start to change coming from the Twin Cities.
OMG i was there!!
I’m glad I was able to record you there, my friend
You lucky dog. Tou got rain. I was hoping we get some rain. Cool ship by the way.
Here in Ohio, we are in a severe drought. Farmers have already started to harvest their corn crop. Not good.
I will take rain over snow any day⛴️👍
Mike, outstanding Video, was that a first on the channel you driving over the Bridge? During my time in the USA Niagara Falls was the most north western point I made it driving from Boston, and realizing that you are another 900 miles or 1450 km away from Niagara Falls, man! Other places I have been to after leaving the USA like Excelsior Springs in Missouri are only 570 miles or 910 Km away. It just reminded me of the size of the USA. All the best!
Absolutely fantastic comment! I really enjoyed this one. I know other people will enjoy it as well. Thank you for putting the time in and giving us something. Fun to read. You have a great Friday night. You deserve it. Thank you for watching the ship, my friend.
@@vibewithmike Dear Mike, as you know Germany is quite small in comparison, and as far as the lakes go, having lived in Boston I loved boating at a friends place in NH, Alton, lake winnipesaukee, must look like a small pond to you,. A 1995 Glastron Carlson cv23 with an 8,2 Liter inboard Mercury v8, (Volvo?) and Volvo outboard dual prop drive, took us around the lake quite quick with up to 70 mph ,like trips to Wolfeboro. Anyway, probably I should use some of my LH miles for a trip to the USA, and get to see Duluth and Minnesota,
@@VRXC if you ever make it here to Duluth, please let me know
Hi from Grand Rapids Michigan
Hey Mary! How’s everything there in Michigan today? Is the weather as beautiful as it is in Duluth today? I know it was raining in the video because it was a few weeks back. I like this time of year where it’s a little cooler and you can keep the windows open. Thanks for watching the ship.👍⛴️
@@vibewithmike Actually chilly here today 66 high , sun in and out, no rain.
@maryreed5820 that’ll work, think of what it’s coming in the next few months. Serious, thank you for taking time out of your night to leave a comment. It’s very nice of you. I wish you a fantastic weekend, my friend.⛴️👍
A nother great catch Mike. I can't wait to go there my self I'm in south dakota so it's not to crazy far. What app were you using I look at a few to see the ship times but if your was a different one I def like options. Enjoy the rest of the weekend
Hey, I keep my eye on when the ships are arriving by watching marine traffic and seeing them actually moving towards or away from . I hope you’re able to join around 3:30 PM central today. I’m going live when a ship arrives. Here’s that link. th-cam.com/users/liveoJ0-sIWsReU?si=ZwOjo-yub5zkOKU4
Note the three flags: US of course for local port, Red and White (Hotel-Pilot Aboard), Yellow- (Quebec, Health Issue aboard or other similar meanings)
I’m glad that you pointed this out Jerry! I’m gonna remember that flag moving forward
So Mike are you in a training mode for late Fall and Winter? Those boots 🥾 will be a part of your apparel selection in the not too distance future.
Pretty nasty weather, but this never seems to detour you!
That’s exactly right Chuck, winter training mode! In this video I was practicing with the liquid snow coming down
I was a little scared with the lightning for all of the people our there!
There was a decent amount of lightning in the area with the ship, but everything seemed OK though
NOAA says, "When thunder roars, get indoors!"
@railroadralf definitely good advice! I think all of us were captivated by watching that ship. However, you were definitely right with your statement.
where have you been? miss your video's
I’ve been around, I’ve been taking a little break. However, I have some really fun and entertaining things coming. We will be standing on ships soon. Get ready. It’s going to be wonderful.
Another good one. Just a few dumb questions for you or anyone else. Are there any spots where lightning would tend to strike in this area? Like the towers on the hills or elsewhere. Do you know if ships get struck by lightning or if the bridge is ever a target? Thanks.
I’m guessing there are many lightning strikes on those towers up on the hill. They are the highest point in Duluth but any metal structure could have issues as well. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to watch another video!
I wonder if the lift bridge operator gets nervous when all that lightning is going on?
I heard that the lift bridge actually has a grounding system if it does get struck by lightning. That electrical current will go right to the ground. However, I really like your question about this to get us all thinking. It absolutely can’t be fun being in that small little house on a metals object when there’s lightning.👍⛴️
Mike I just sent you a link to a Woman who toured the Soonlocks as a Journalist etc... perhaps you can have much of the same type of tour ...this tour allowed the journalist special access

So, I has to ask! Have you ever driven across the Aerial Lift Bridge and go BEEEEEEEEEEP Beep Beep with you horn? Enquiring minds want to know! 🚢📯😁
I actually have heard many people do that. I haven’t done it myself.
Oh, you're like a happy little duck walking through the puddles in your galoshes! And how about that lightning! 🌩 Happy Friday! 😅
The lightning and thunder was pretty cool during the ship arrival! I had those waterproof boots on, so I had to walk through that big puddle
The sun shining through in the east in the evening is pretty interesting! Loved all the water reflection too. Nice crowd as well! Great video, boat friend!
@DressyBessie I love seeing how things look in the reflection of water
How making the boat friends the Arthur Anderson’s coming out

@@vibewithmike the best part about Foosball starting? It means hockey is a month away. I don't know if we're going all the way this year. But I'm expecting a better record than last year. A few talented additions and dropped some dead weight. It's gonna be good.
@ralphyboy3636 I’m with that! Especially with the new draft pick quarterback getting hurt right away. Normal Minnesota luck 😔
