I studied loads of things when younger including economics and philosophy. Very few politicians know the first thing about economics. Mind you even if you had studied economics there have been some crackpot economics theories published in textbooks. I discovered it was likely from the zeitgeist of the time more than anything that made sense. Indeed what aught to be twinned in Oxford is Economics and Maths. I mean do proper maths and economics, not the Mickey Mouse maths of some of the economic theories.

I considered applying for a Rhodes while at the University of Illinois-Chicago but as I didn't get out of the Army and begin college until I was twenty-one, age ineligibility barred the notion entirely. C'est la vie. Later, in law school one of my study group fellows had attended Cambridge where he read economics and received his MA but had slight regard for the expat grad student experience I regretted never having had myself.

If you're doing a humanities degree at Oxford, just get the reading done in the vacations, Choose your papers, get the reading lists off your tutor in advance and get the reading out of the way. There'll be no time in term.

After watching you for a few years now, Professor, I would like to opine that you seem to have an endless tolerance for Tory corruption, racism, and the laughable game of "musical chairs" they have been playing. I don't think you will have much tolerance for any Labour shenanigans as you've had with Boris Badenov and his cronies? 😊

PPE was considered the soft option at Oxford. I. count it was. Talking to Dr Evans he said history is the poor relation! Me having read Herodotus was rare he said. Good read. Some do BSe Oxford and PhD at the other place.

Oxford PPE is Politics, Philosophy and Earselicking. Impossible to really know much about Economics as a third of a degree. Ps , I got in for Economics at Cambridge. Errrrr King's.

Having met a few of the students, I can't say PPE brings out the shining stars?! I think the dropping economics seems to ring true though.....

Economics is not difficult if you apply yourself. Most of it is cause & effect and logic. I can understand someone not handling logic not getting a grip on economics. Such people should not be doing PPE. Given that so many Oxbridge (e.g.) Maths graduates and Physics graduates become (e.g.) accountants, PPE is probably the closest to a vocational Oxbridge degree.

All these subjects should be banned and the likes of Oxford should only be allowed to teach common sense and infantile level arthmetic
