I feel for the first wife. She’s just accepted that her opinion does not matter. She literally just said”He must do whatever he wants” , anyone who’s been with a woman long enough will know that her answer is a no. But instead of saying no, she’s telling him to do what he wants to do because she knows that he’ll do it regardless of what she says. Thereafter, they force her to accept the second wife. The way they go about it is a disgrace to the Zulu culture. This is not how a second was taken. 1st of all, isithembu was only allowed if the 1st wife could not extend the family or was physically incapable of taking care of her family , May be due to an accident or something of that nature.
