I agree. Many people missed her point when it pertains to how people are treated with certain addictions in the world. Honestly, it is a form of bullying, and should never occur. Sad!
This was my perspective on what she was conveying as well. And not only did/do we not have empathy for someone in that situation in our communities, but so much so that the actor herself still receives the same ridicule as if she were the type of person she once portrayed.
I think the reason could be because folks who are addicts tend to have unpredictable behaviors. They have also been known to do any and everything for their fix. Most non addicts don’t want to be associated with them and don’t want to feel as if the addict is a peer of theirs in fear of others thinking they too are addicts

As many times I watched that movie, definitely as a adolescent I always felt the energy that came from her role. I am thankful for her speaking on this with grace, it only draws the attention that I never paid until now my intricately!
Angela definitely has a point. Everybody dismissed Felicia. No one ever came to her defense with the exception of her sister. Cube only fought Deebo because he hit Nia
What we loved about Friday was that we knew people like each of the characters. And everyone knew a Felicia and I LOVED that she fleshed her out. That she took someone that MANY dismissed because of the surface and told a story that was very much true. Like how come we were able to dismiss people who really needed help? And the cool thing is our hoods needed people LIKE Angela that were compassionate that shed light on the people in the fringe corners of the community and reminded us they are people too, and many of those people o the edge are saved from someone seeing them and loving them back from the shell of who they had been.
I think the larger point is that, as a culture, "we" dehumanize and dismiss the real-life "Felicias"--people in our community who are suffering in plain sight. A real artist sees the connection between his or her work and reality. And casual ridicule of our most vulnerable via Black entertainment has taught generations that our lives matter only when we have sufficient fashions, swagger, ruthlessness and bank accounts.
Everyone hates on Tyler Perry, but he's the only person in Hollywood thats actually doing what Ms Bradley is talking about. Tyler Perry is the only one that consistently gives Black actors the ability to exhibit their talents by presenting a variety of roles to display their talents outside of what it is they're known for doing..
Mannn…I might be in my feelings and I know she was speaking about a character, but I think we all know a “Felicia.” If you don’t think so YOU might be the Felicia. I heard her speaking to the disregard of some black women by those that are supposed to care about and/or love her. She brought another dimension to the character. Just as actors are type casted we type cast people in our own lives.
The Felicia character was ok but was not as profound as they're making it. I mean Samuel L Jackson & Halle Berry played phenomenal crackheads in Jungle Fever & Chris Rock was an iconic crackhead in New Jack City. We still use the name "Pookie" to this day because of Chris Rock's contributions.

I have a different take on it. I agree with Pierre to a point. We, collectively, love gut-busting, I-don't-have-to-think-too-deeply-about-it comedy because we buy the ticket to entertain us and whisk us away from the everyday trials of life (being black). On the other hand, that are people who view movies from an empathic standpoint. They may be in the minority, but they are part of the black community as well. I'm not suggesting they are sitting in theatres dissecting every aspect of the film, but they are the ones who look and feel deeply about the characters, even between side-splitting comedic scenes. They are the ones who sit until the end of the credits because they care to know the names of every person involved in the movie they just enjoyed. Some invest in the entertainment aspect, and some invest in other areas of films because they look at life through different lenses. I just happen to be one of those people. No one is right or wrong, just different perspectives.
This tends to happen often as far as the point being missed here goes. The point here is yes, Angela Means has been hurt by the reaction she's been getting from society because of her role as Felicia all these years but what she was highlighting was she's MORESO hurt because how she is being treated for this role is a reflection of how WE treat individuals in society such as Felicia and Debo. How quick we are to dismiss and disrespect people who have been disenfranchised in this society just like the rest of us but have it a bit worse than others. The lack of empathy replaced with cold hearted dismissive treatment.
She took her role an made it become her....when in reality an actor is supposed to act an separate themselves from the roles they played...yeah this is a situation that she needs therapy for because she shouldn't be this deep in it, if your an coror or actress it's your job to perform a fantasy an everyone won't get that so u have to learn to protect your true self
The entire interview touched my heart. Unfortunately, some people are just evil, and can't separate the real person from the fictitious character. Also, people make fun of people that suffer with addiction. I have worked with that population of people, and it is not comical. On a lighter note, Ms. Parker still looks amazing. Black don't crack 😍😍😍😍😍
I agree. Question: Is it our culture that's blackballing ⚫️ our own people as well in life? If we can stop with the crazy and ignorant views and replies amongst ourselves [and others]. Yet not overlooking when we're wrong bc right is right & wrong is wrong. Instead of acting like a family of "Black People" "Black People United" honestly walking, loving, respecting, inspiring, uplifting, teaching, providing and giving as the Kings and Queens amongst each other and families. I wonder if one loved and respected ourself and loving those like us, then others in the world will fall therein also the same. Loved.ijs.

I was emotional as well with Angela Means interview, also "Mrs Parker" Mrs Kathleen Bradley. I wish she would've spoken up sooner. I think Crystale Wilson "Ronnie" 🎬 Players Club had the same experience with the public and type casting. You gotta Love the comedy in "Friday" and "Players Club". I love the fact that they delved into their characters, true to their art. However, I never thought the mindset of some people that can't process that these actors are playing a role. I guess this is the "The Good, Bad And Ugly of acting on the Big Screens." Also, It's sad that some characters are type casted for doing a great job, and had to deal with the bad effects of playing a role. I wish she and others would've spoke up earlier for these discussions. Especially, when we had Oprah in syndication world-wide and Arsenio Hall. I love All Our Black Comedy Movies and Movies in General and Faves in Iconic roles such as "Mrs. Parker" and Chrystale Wilson's "Ronnie", LRayeM "Diamond" and BMac "Dollar Bill", "Pierre" [All Roles*] and more. This was A Great Panel, everyone had great insightful information on the Angela Means interview and more. Please bring on more actors and actresses on this subject. Black people need to get better with each other in all aspects of life as a people. How long are we gonna oppress ourselves against ourselves. This has been going on for far too long. We've been part of our own oppression against our own people. This got to stop today!🙌❤️💯✌️ Ijs

People still to this day can not unfortunately separate the person from the character. Susan Lucci got attacked for years and spent years trying to get an award for her role as arriika Kane on the soap all my children. People were crazy back then and even more crazy now. It's a fricking non-fictional character, outside of that, they are a normal human being. If they can make you act out like that, they deserve every award available. Yet she meaning the Felicia role got none. 🤷♂️
The crazy part is no one ever accused her of being a crackhead in the movie she was just a bum not once did somebody say get your drug addicted ass away from here put to hate somebody from a comedy movie people are crazy

Some people are so ignorant! She played a character! That’s not who she is! Her acting as Felicia in Friday was just awesome. I wished she had more roles! She’s a good actress that got stereotyped. She’s a Beautiful Woman. ❤️🙏🏽
Everyone has gone insane. It was a character in a comedy film. She needs therapy. People are getting caught up in her emotional response. Sounded like she was talking more about herself than a made up character.
But it’s a real issue…just as real as mental health for men? We know it’s a character with a small role, but it’s an archetype of a person in the real black world. Are you that unempathetic or just unintelligible?
I saw that Angela Means interview. I was feeling exactly what she was saying. But if you think about the end of the movie. Deebo did get his ass kicked because Debbie stuck up for her sister. She stood up to Deebo and Craig stood up for Debbie. I mean all of that was due to what happened to Felicia. But anyway, besides that little caveat everything that was said really hit me hard.
Theodore that young man is very articulate and very mature to be age 20. Some people take their character on TV. Like it's real when their just acting.
The point of her being emotional about her character is because in real life it’s people with addiction that are avenge. What I got is the character was showing that some communities push aside family member or friends just due to there drug use and forget them.

She posed a rhetorical question to make us think a little deeper. THat's all. If you're incapable of thinking on a deeper level just say that.
@@rgtowns lol
Yamanika looking good tonight boy! 😍
Salutes
Loving the content rn 💪🏾💯✊🏿
Much respect to Mrs. Parker
But it was a comedy it ain't like she was the main star or it was a serious thing
It’s crazy and ignorant how people really think characters are real. Also I can believe how characters can ruin you as precious almost did to Monique.
Loved.ijs.
@@vnesssblk1 yes because our people have a mental disorder to where we think that entertainment is real 🤦🏾♂️
Mrs. Kathleen Bradley almost made me cry. She is so pretty. Love when she said those encouraging words. She look like the kind of person that will give you hugs and kisses. #JustSayn #MyGameShowTVMom 😊💖
Kathleen is amazingly gorgeous
Mz Parker Looking Like Sade 👀😍
My Hommie Theodore. Good job on ms. Pat, you said, Brandon got Mountain Dew bottles full of piss🤣🤣💀 and let’s not forget that Felicia is the same beautiful women in house party 3.
Angela and Kathleen both look like they could be sisters 🙏🏻
Hey Ms.Parker lol...didn't know you were a barker beauty lol...Felicia sis stop letting people response hold you down and back..
I am so impresed with Yamaneika. She is an example of don't judge a book by its cover. No disrespect, but I would have never thought you would have said you were classically trained in the theater. Wow, EXCELLENT! Everything you had to added to the conversation was just amazing. I could listen to you on a podcast. hint-hint. lol
she had one...hasn't put out a new episode in quite some time
Theodore Barnes you're twenty, and you use (scariest) in a sentence correctly, as the opposite of timid not incorrectly as a synonym of timid.
You're winning already!
People with discernment will notice.
DAYUM Mrs. Parker STILL FINE ❤️❤️❤️
We DO still wanna be with Ms. parker.
So there is a demographic of delusional, borderline, and mentally ill folks who think that fictional Actors are real. I liked the Felicia character because I could see she was a really good Actress because she was so believable as a crackhead. Friday was a dream team of great Acting..
Ohhhh - The Price is Right! THAT is where I remembered her from.
People dismiss good and bad people everywhere, everyday. It's another unfortunate fact of life 💯
I'm glad a darkskin blk woman didn't play the felicia role. I'm sick of darkskin blk women being portrayed in a negative light.
Black is black. The only difference is shades of black For you to say that you just reinstill that hate for black women self hate within the community 🙄
@@flyguy7825 Just another remedial blk kang who missed my point 🙄
@@flyguy7825 You missed my point. No surprise, most blk kangs are remedial.
@@ShayTheAntiFeminist No, I didn't miss your point at all. You are projecting your views and pretty much reflecting it back on women who are of the lighter complexion in the black community. I mean you're not fooling anybody with it
@Mira M But that's not accurate at all anybody can be a drug addict
She talking about herself or the character??? And this sister Kathleen was one of the only reasons I would watch the Price Is Right back in the day
“What’s up ⬆️? I’m the 💩 “ 😩
Yamenieka is an AWESOME ADDITION TO THE HYPE... good one. Pierre always give great insight.. and SYMPHONY'S OUR FUTURE ALTERNATIVE TO GAYLE KING
FELECIA WAS IN FOR 3 MINUTES,SHE DOING TOO MUCH
Heyyyyy Mrs. Parker 🤗
Chris rock played a crackhead.... And was killed halfway thru the movie
@Hollow Vegeta⁸ 😄😄😄
Look at de andre bonds from lockdown people hold that role against him even tho it was just acting
Beautiful!!!!
Got me crushing on Miss Parker AND Yamaneika - lawd say more! Yummy talk! 😋
You can still hear the pain in her voice.
Damn 71 Lookin better than some 21 year olds 😍
Sweetie did a good job! Babe let it go and move on! Much love! Be blessed!
Pierre said he gon put the 💋's in the movie.😄
Around the 19:48 to 19:50 mark the sound becomes distorted when Yami is speaking. Comedy Hype, when time permits can you clarify?
Thank you! ✌🏾❤️
Pierre bout to get beat up those lips are mine 🤣🤣🤣
MISS PAWKUH!! MISS PAWKUH!!
I remember Friday was on pay per view movies on the Philadelphia cable company in ‘97 I was only 2 when the movie came out
Facts me too
Damn Felicia and Ms Parker look like their the same age.
The crazy part is no one ever accused her of being a crackhead in the movie she was just a bum not once did somebody say get your drug addicted ass away from here put to hate somebody from a comedy movie people are crazy
Ms.Parker,
ALL RESPECT DUE;
it's,
"He lives here with my husband and me.
Ms Parker look good at 70
GIRL GET OVER IT,IT WAS ALMOST 30 YEARS AGO AND SHE’S HOLDING ON TO IT
She's very beautiful as a person... I remember her in House Party 3 as kid fiance soon to be Wife. That's how I remember her, and Friday is like the icing on the cake on a career level . And people took it the wrong way to judge her after that character that's just ridiculous.
Some people are so ignorant! She played a character! That’s not who she is! Her acting as Felicia in Friday was just awesome. I wished she had more roles! She’s a good actress that got stereotyped. She’s a Beautiful Woman. ❤️🙏🏽
I understand what everyone one is saying and I agree with all of them Kathleen Bradley is still as beautiful as ever one of my many crushes
Damn Ms. Parker can still get it. Give me 5 minutes…
Ohhh she look soo good
Angela was great 👍🏾 in House 🏡 Party 🎉 3. It took me a long time to realize she was the same person in Friday.
Pierre is not wrong and Yamineka said it soo well ❤️🩹
I saw that Angela Means interview.
Kathleen A.k.a. Mrs.Parker is still so beautiful .
Theodore that young man is very articulate and very mature to be age 20. Some people take their character on TV. Like it's real when their just acting.
Ms. Bradley still looks GREAT!!! Side note they look a like. For once, I agree with Pierre.
Seems like SHE’s the one who doesn’t wanna let it go! Smh
Facts
The point of her being emotional about her character is because in real life it’s people with addiction that are avenge. What I got is the character was showing that some communities push aside family member or friends just due to there drug use and forget them.
