I feel a lot of people are overthinking the tentacle scenery, like it’s some big monster. I just think it’s as simple as it being another weird background whenever the Godhand is summoned.
I personally think each eclipse has a different setting based on time and place + the new potential godhand member. But we will probably never know.

Remember Miura said if we want to know the godhand's goal he'll give us a hint and the hint was Void. So whatever Void did we'll know Femto most likely will do something very similar. They also had similar events happen to them. Example: King Gaeseric had Void tortured in the tower of Conviction as a human. The king of Midland had Griffith tortured in the tower of Rebirth. And both were 5th editions to the Godhand.

I think your theory of Void being the first and OG member of the Godhand (and that he got the first Behelit) is further strengthened by how there were no Apostles in Skull Nights eclipse.

@@literaryminds3530 all of those creatures look exactly the same as one another. I think we’re being tricked into thinking this is an a Eclipse when it’s actually something else. Apostles look distinctly different from one another and never ever exactly the same as another.
The idea that the former members of the God Hand were destroyed and that Void had to rebuild their ranks over time is one that I find exceptionally appealing.
Despite how appealing the idea is I personally find it hard to believe considering you couldn't touch neither void or griffith even with the sword of actuation

I love the idea of the corpses at the bottom of the tower of rebirth having put the brand of sacrifice on to themselves so that they can ascend void their cult leader so that he can serve the idea of evil for all eternity. The first sacrifices ever made to the idea of evil were completely voluntary.
It's highly unlikely void was the first to make sacrifices, who knows how long this has been going on. On the panel of SK's memories it's likely Void was the newest Godhand at that point.
I stumbled across Berserk by mistakes a few years back. It was a video showing the violence of the eclipse in the 1997 anime. Best mistake I've ever made!

If the “Old Godhand” are indeed made of something other than human, or humans from a time when connections with nature and magic were stronger, explaining their otherworldly appearances, perhaps they possessed limitations the new Godhand don’t because they come from humans from a more cynical age, as it all depends on one’s feelings and own mentality and capabilities (especially if the lost chapter is to be taken into consideration) , perhaps this is why the Idea of Evil wanted mankind to distance themselves from all magic and arcane knowledge through the Holy See, to create stronger Godhand and apostles from people with less compassion and whose capacity for evil knows no bounds... I especially enjoyed your comparisons to the four seasons on the designs of the old Godhand and I believe you may be on to something here. Anyway cheers mate love your content.
This also makes sense due to human creativity and imagination. There's not much room for imagination when you can see just about anything beyond understanding and come to understand it. Humans have this ability to create truly anything from nothing when they don't understand. Religion came from not understand why things happen or what comes after death, and there truly are an endless amount of answers that we as a species have come up with that are all so wildly different. Humans of old would simply have the answers, leaving no room to wonder and create their own.
It actually fits rather well: spring (fertility godess), summer (lion thing that look like a sun flower), fall (vagina mouth) and winter (ice giant). That being said, I think only humans can be God Hands. Their weird form, as it was said, just represent more abstract natural concepts.
Maybe some of these God Hand members are still the same, they just took a different form.
I know there are theories about griffith betraying the godhand. If that is true, then what if Void betrayed the original godhand and thats why theyre all gone. And even better Void would suspect griffith of betraying him
I don't think that the Idea of Evil would allow them to do such a thing.

This seems to be the birth of Void. We know of the tell of the Sage who cursed Gaiseric until an "angel" was sent down. Also there is the "fairytale of the Skull King" which says that 4 or 5 angels descended upon Gaiserics empire and erased everything in one night, leaving no trace of it's existence. Some might believe that it was the elementals that destroyed the kingdom, but given what was just revealed it very well could be that the 4 "angels" that descended upon the kingdom were the original Godhand and through the process of a ritual Void was born through the imprisoned Sage which then made it 5.
I also find the brands on the foreheads of the corpses at the bottom of the tower to be a bit strange. When Guts and the Band of the Hawk were sacrificed, all of them had their brand marks on various parts of their body not just the forehead. Perhaps the corpses were apart of a different ceremony involving the Sage as a sort of cult. Perhaps it was this ceremony and other practices that led to the Sage's imprisonment. Maybe the Sage was trying to make contact with the Godhand through this branding ceremony and once he became Void he established the Brand of Sacrifice going forward. This may also explain why the flashback ritual seems different from the typical sacrifice we are accustomed to. There is no hint of a Behelit, Eclipse, or even a large hand. This seems like the literal beginning of the Godhand as a group of 5.

All the evidence suggest skull knight sacrificed that girl to the gold hand, hence why he is below them and they are standing above him. And in return became the skull knight.
He obviously regrets this and is why he wants them destroyed bc they manipulated him.
There is actually no evidence at all that substantiates anything you said about void and him standing in the centre like that means nothing as it did with Griffith. Void is probably just the oldest god hand hence why he’s the only member there in this chapter like last time

Second, your assumptions are no more valid than mine, it's theory crafting.
Nothing that I've mentioned is pulled out of thin air, it's in the story. The legend goes that a sage was imprisoned in the Tower of Conviction and was visited by "angels" who then destroyed the Skull King's capital. It's heavy implied that the sage is Void.
Why would Ganseic sacrifice her when he hates the God hand? The entire ceremony is much more different than any we've seen before.
That's just one of the many things I love about Berserk. It could be any one of these theories or any combination. It's so much fun to speculate.
I think everyone is overthinking this, maybe the simplest explanation could be the right one
It's an eclipse, this are previous God Hands, probably there is a Guts/Griffith friendship backstory between Sk/Void, some betrayal.
I just hope in the next chapter Sk starts explaining what we just saw and we get a proper backstory

I think it could be that the Godhand of Void's time served a different purpose? They may have even went by a different name, given how there wasn't a Hand involved.
The zoomed out version of the scene, before we see the God hand as a full seems like they standing on a altar, a simple altar in a big room. Look hiw the Tentacle mimicking big pillars in a gigantic room. This picture is so well made its looks like a room and then when you zoom out it's just a gigantic chaos
I hear what you’re saying. But it isn’t the same set of circumstances, perhaps the Vortex was more exposed and there was no hand because Void eventually replaces these 5 creatures with the current Godhand members, but only after they serve their purpose in destroying Gaeseric’s kingdom. Void being front and centre with Gaeseric’s love branded makes one thing clear, Void created the branding ritual (which he carried all the way to Femto’s incarnation ritual) and was likely responsible for the mass sacrifice at the ToC, either directly or indirectly (by way of a cult following)... Femto’s ritual also involved Apostles devouring the sacrifices, where as both the ToC and this flashback didn’t, so it’s likely the victims had their life force sucked out of their bodies and fed to the Vortex. The hair-covered Dr Seuss-like creatures emerging from between the tentacles also don’t appear to be apostles, they look too similar and primitive tbh. I think this was supposed to symbolise the same event occurring in more primitive times, where the physical and astral realms were also at a crossroads.
With this last chapter, here is just one thing I can't quite wrap my head around: the Zodd paradox
From what we know, Zodd has been an apostle for arround 300 years (more or less). He recognised the berserker armor when Guts used it for the first time and knew SK used it. So we can understand that Zodd saw SK wearing it
But the blood memory implied SK died facing the old godhands nearly 900 years ago
Or Zodd is much, much older than we thought, or the scene with the old godhands wasn't exactly when SK died (somehow)
I don't think Zodd was saying he was 300 years old, just that it had been 300 years since he had encountered someone like Guts. He could have been out Zodding for much longer than that

Im re reading the manga and reached a point where they are discussing skull knights myths. They said that it was "about a thousand years ago" not exactly a thousand years. They also mention 5 angels were sent by god to destroy his city in the span of a night. That must have been the Godhand. Then one of them says "werent there four of them" "oh yeah?"

What if skull night was actually a representation of “a past Griffith” whom broke free from the god hand and Zodd was actually a representation of guts? And everything happening is skull night trying to change the same fate happening to Griffith and guts?

Personally think this ceremony was the creation of the god hand. Void being the sage and the other 4 being followers of his. The other 4 being killed maybe in in this ceremony by Flora with the elemental kings. Flora being there might be how SK's spirit survived as well

Considering Berserk is based off Devilman, I think the idea of cycles is definitely what's going on here.
However, I think the previous cycle's knight was Skull Knight who is now training Guts to be the new marcher against the endless night.
I think Skull Knight is going to kill Void and Femto will take his place as their leader.
Eventually we will get to a point where Guts or (The Dragonslayer Knight) will kill Griffith, but I think an X-factor will put an end to the godhand once and for all and that X factor will be the moon child.
Great video m8, I've seen a bunch of these theories on the berk fb groups and they are all fun to read and speculate on. Can't wait for the next chapter, although I doubt we will get more exposition on calcium-chan's backstory but I'm ok with that

I feel as though the 362 gives me more of an explanation with Skull Knight attacked Void first during Femto's eclipse and not the other Godhand members.
I think Void is the primary one who creates the rest and Skull Knight killed the previous members realizing eventually that Void is the creator and killing him will end the cycle.
I still like the idea that the show will end with Guts and Casca having a peaceful life, Griffith will realise that being a king doesn't bring him that happiness he always craved and he will eventually die seeing Guts smiling happy with Casca.. Both Guts and Casca completely forgetting Griffith even exists making his entire life and sacrifices pointless.

Thank you for addressing the time error (864 years instead of 1080). The only fix I see to this is is there being a 432 year gap between Void and Ubik, where 216 after Void’s incarnation he sacrifices the previous 4 Godhand members (or Skull Knight somehow offed them).
Yea I remember on the Tropes and Scopes website seeing the "authors can't do math" or something like that one. It's hard to keep track of all these things, and sometimes they just screw up. It is a possibility it could mean something, though and not be a mistake, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I still think that void is the first god hand member ever and those other beings were just really powerful apostles. I also think that SK killed the other 4 apostles while in the Berserker armor after he surrendered completely to it. But obviously void being on a completely different level than the most powerful apostles, SK died while trying to kill void.

Why would he be the first ever godhand? I got the feeling he was the newest Godhand member out of the ancient flashback bunch. Stood at the front for SK/Gaiseric like Griffith was for guts.

Great video! I've always thought that the story is one of an infinite number of rebooted timelines. So when Guts says he saw the end, maybe he assumes his fate will be the same as the Skull Knight and Casca will die. This would possibly be the last straw for Guts and he would abandon his humanity like Skull Knight did, dawning the soul-cage armor and helping the struggler in the next timeline.
Imagine if miura actually had a sensible schedule
I think each new God Hand member is stronger than previous one they replaced maybe that’s why they don’t consider Skull Knight to be big of threat. I believe only void knows how truly dangerous Skull Knight actually is since he is the only one of the previous God Hand unit to survive the onslaught of King Gaiseric which he unleashed in his Berserker Armor during void’s ascension. The new members of God Hand might be arrogant and underestimate the power of Skull Knight. Which they regret when Guts will fulfill King Gaiseric/SK’s Prophecy.

The first one was my theory, but I will add that I believe void, being the newest member of the god hand was tasked with rallying humanity together to a single point just like femto is now, but I think void, instead of leading humanity himself, manipulated King Gaisdrick to do it for him and that is why the resentment of SK for void comes from. Once humanity came to a single point, the ceremony of ultimate sacrifice took place and every single human being served as a sacrifice for the ultimate goal of “ascending” the oldest 4 god hand members leaving void to start the cycle himself.
All we need to know is that Skull Knight is a fucking legend

I agree with your theory about Void, I think you've hit the nail on the head. After all, in an interview Miura was asked what is the goal of the Godhand and responded by saying "the key word is _Void_ ".
I started to read berserk last week I'm on chapter 10 and holy fuck I knew that this manga was dark but Jesus Christ the King,the count I can already tell this Manga is gonna be great
I feel this theory is closer to the 4 horsemen as far as the god hand we know, despite there being 5
The current God Hand definitely have parallels to the 4 Houseman of the Apocalypse and the 7 Deadly Sins in Christinaity. I remember there being scenes of them briefly showing up in the material world in areas that had disease or extreme lust, and only the one that corresponded to that theme.

All 5 Godhand were created at once, and Void or King Gaiseric killed the other 4, but the legend the princess told the Hawks was that 4 angels came... So...
My personal theory is that the old god hand were made from the previous dominant races of the world, and as humanity ascended, they faded away, or were replaced.

The "frost giant" is probably Ganishka, I think the other members ascended to the real world and the skull knight killed them one by one, but skull knight couldn't stop void, don't forget that zodd is no longer bound to the God hand either and has known skull knight for about 1000 years. That plays a pretty big role for what Kentaro Miura's plan.

Crazy thought but what if Void was always a God Hand? I notice he really seems to be the head of the group with the one who spoke the most during the eclipse and placed the brand on the sacrifices. Also, whenever it depicts the God Hand standing on their hand pedestal thing, Void is always on the thumb which is the most important part of the hand if it is to function properly. I bet if this God Hand batch were to be shown on the hand pedestal, Void would still be on the thumb. Just a thought I wanted to put out there.
The first Godhand used to be the 4 Elemental Kings until they invited Void. Then they were wiped out by him only for Void to rebuild them under the philosophy of the Idea of Evil.

My Theory is that with every 5th eclipse Void and Griffith/Femto there will be a survivor of that eclipse as seen with Skull knight, Guts, and Casca and with skull knight hunting down and killing each of the 4 previous god hand one by one in until the only Void remained and during this time the crimson behelit slowly made it's way back into the world finding it's way to the next god hand but eventually though Guts will kill one of the god hand at some point in until only Femto and the crimson behelit slowly making it's way back into the world in some form of a twisted endless cycle
So Guts might be doomed to become the next skull knight

I think that Skull Knight was the person to murder them, the incarnation symbol seen is simply just a flashback, or rather the last thing he saw before he went into a blind rage. In this blind rage he slays the 4, dying in the armor and Void gets away.

When we saw the previous Godhand I took it differently from most pieple I guess. I assumed that void is the one constant one who's in control , and the other four members come and go according to his whims

If these are the "angels" that were sent down to destroy the kingdom, it might be that they were only meant to stay there temporarily, after all they only came down when the Sage was getting tortured and needed them. The Sage may have wanted power to defeat Gaiseric himself, thus becoming Void, or the price for summoning the angels came with becoming a puppeteer of causality. From there Flora performs the taboo of resurrecting Skull Knight (probably Danaan too if this theory has any credence), Skull Knight now acts as an unwilling puppeteer of Causality where his actions further along the next generation, such as saving Guts and Casca to prevent Guts from becoming like SK, and the Angels, content their duty is done, leave and return to wherever they're from now that they are no longer needed and the world begins anew.
Basically what I'm getting at is they were summoned to help the Sage, but their help wasn't free and the Idea of Evil or whatever its name is had them turn the Sage into Void in order to keep causality going and then dipped. Skull Knight clearly has trouble even getting to the Godhand, members that are younger than him to boot, so I doubt the Angels were killed, simply leaving after Causality was confirmed to have a new puppeteer.
Good theory. I also think the famous (4 angels) that came to destroy Gaiseric kingdom were Godhand members and maybe the first ones with Void being the 5th. My theory is that Skull Knight was Gaiseric in his past life. And with the last 3 manga Miura gave before dying I really think SK is Gaiseric, and Void was most likely the Sage that Gaiseric locked in a cell, and the Sage probably made a deal with 'The Ideal of Evil', and the first Godhand was born. And I believe while his kingdom was being destroyed Gaiseric aka Skull Knight used the Berserker armor to save himself from the first eclipse. Before you can see in both the manga and anime while guts and Hawk members are going down the tower you can see bodies with the sacrifice mark. Which makes me believe they were part of the eclipse that happened to Gaiseric's Kingdom. And it was cell that the remains and ruins are at the very bottom deep of the earth of the tower they were walking in.
Also the 4 Angels didn't died tho. It was said they fought Gaiseric but he was defeated in the process
