    Hey everyone, really sorry I had some incorrect information in the video on the boot capacity.
    The boot capacity of GLC plug-in hybrids is 395L not 550L. It was a misprint in the brochure which has now been corrected. Sorry again for the confusion.

      Please, couldn’t you suggest what options should be added, for the car to have the Sports+ option in Dynamic select?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ama Teur, DYNAMIC SELECT is standard on all new cars. Sport+ is just Sport mode now. Mercedes-Benz have just simplified it to make it easier for all new cars and removed the sport+ and put that into the Sport mode.
      Hope that helps! 🤓

    Very well presented Nick and as I have had my GLC300e for over a year now (2020 model), your info is spot on. For info, I am with Octopus energy and their GO night time tariff from 00.30 to 04.30 is 5p/kwh. So unless I am more than 90% empty, I can charge it up within the four hours.
    A lot of supermarkets now do free charging. Aldi, is the best as its plug, shop and go. Nothing to download, no ID or numbers to find, just plug it in and lock your car for 7.4kwh free charging. Tesco is also free but not always 7.4kwh and I find you have to locate the plug on an app and it all takes around 5 minutes or so before you are charging due to fiddle factor.

      Hi Andrew. On the electric tariff, I did some basic calculations and the difference based on projections for household electric use, there’s only about £100 difference as my 4xisting tariff(unfortunately with Bulb!)is around 20p per kWh but under an ev tariff, that goes up to around 24p

    Hi Nick. I've been trying to search how exactly does this hybrid system work in terms of when the ice kicks in or when the electric motor kicks in.. and my biggest question is if the battery completely runs out, would the acceleration hp and torque be only from the ice? Or there will always be some form of electrical power from the motors. If you have any info on this, it would be very much appreciated. Cheers for all your infomative videos

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey tzerich, the ICE will always kick in if you accelerate hard but it honestly depends on what mode you have it in on DYNAMIC SELECT.
      There would be less power, it’ll have some electric if the battery wasn’t charged but wouldn’t be as powerful if it were fully charged.

    Thanks Nick. I have (as you know from comments in other threads) the GLC300e premium plus. Love the drive etc but charging as I live in a flat in London is a nightmare so rarely runs on electric.
    Mostly running on BL saving it in case needed so it’s not empty.
    If I do run it it will do a maximum of 15-17miles as cold and heating etc. Never seen or got anywhere near the 27miles you mention on the video.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well as with all plug-in hybrids they have to go through a test procedure which is called WLTP.
      This is a benchmark used to showcase what a car can achieve in the best circumstances (what it is truly capable of).
      As this test is completed at 23°C, factors such as the starting charge of the battery, use of A/C & heating, windows open/closed, factory-fitted options such as wheel sizes, accessories fitted (post registration), variations in weather, driving styles and vehicle load can all affect the range.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey cho ng,
      Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! Well the WLTP range of the car is 25-29 miles. You can achieve this in the real world, that’s the beauty of WLTP over NEDC test cycles. However WLTP is performed at 23°C with one person in the car and standard equipment.
      I achieved 19 miles that day but it was cold outside and I wasn’t in any sort of Eco mode so this is to be expected.
      Also I would have to admit I wasn’t focussing on driving economically for that video as I was talking to the camera! 😅

      @choshun8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@npoleary Thanks Nick. Keep up the good work! Enjoy the fact your videos don’t come with a lot of ‘fluff’ and keeps the information simple.
      Shame about the 300e only having a short electric range. Think it’s similar for the BMW X3 phev. It would mean having To go to a GLE for longer range, which isn’t a bad thing but it only comes with a Diesel engine. The BMW X5 phev at the moment looks a better option because it has a petrol engine and around 50 miles electric range.
      Can’t wait for the new c class to come out as the phev version looks pretty high tech or maybe even the new c63!

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you 😊
      Well it all comes down to the battery size, the GLC battery is 13.5kWh where as in a larger car, a bigger battery can be installed without compromising boot capacity too much. In the GLE it’s a massive 30.8kWh battery so naturally, bigger battery = more range 🤓

    • @MervynJardin
      @MervynJardin 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Not at all. The range of 27 miles is perfect. This car will 'glide' and go downhill and when stopped does not use petrol or electricity. So your 27 miles is nearer 40. Also, when the petrol kicks in (you don't know unless you see the rev counter move), the petrol economy is amazing. I am getting 57.6 mpg petrol and and 153mpge. My total driving time over 21 months is 15 days, 13 hours and 15 mins. My total electric time is 11 days, 17 hours 37 mins. So more than 2/3 of the time, I am electric even considering long distance driving. Also remember, this car has a 13.5kwh battery. When it runs out, you lug it around with petrol. If you have a bigger battery, that is more weight you pay for in petrol. One final point. When you have selected ECO mode and your destination setup in satnav, it knows every hill, roundabout, traffic lights and bend and this aids in 'milking' out the electricity for a long duration.

      Ah excellent question, pretty much all Mercedes-Ben’s seats are designed to be super comfortable. The only slight variation of this are Mercedes-AMG vehicles (43’s & 63’s), although still very comfortable you will find they are slightly firmer to aid the sportier feel.
      All new GLC hybrids in the UK now have lumbar adjustment as standard which adds to the seat design making sure you are as comfortable as possible for long journeys.

      By default all plug-in hybrids will use electric first then switch over to the engine when it runs out. However if you accelerate hard it’ll use both to assist in that quick burst of power.
      Of course there are many modes that you can use to switch between if you want more control over when it’s in electric or when it’s using the engine. By default it’s just meant to be super easy, hop in and drive but you can control it if you want to.

      Don’t forget WLTP Range is the theoretical maximum range the car will ever achieve in the best possible conditions. There are many factors which influence range which include the starting charge of the battery, use of A/C & heating, windows open/closed, factory-fitted options such as wheel sizes, accessories fitted (post registration), variations in weather, driving styles and vehicle load.
      Also the WLTP test is performed at 23°C to offer a fair comparison round the world but as it is -2°C outside at the moment in the UK, the range will of course be less.

    • @npoleary

      Hey Mark! Thanks!
      They sure do!
      All Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the UK have 3 Years warranty from the day they are registered. The high voltage batteries also have a longer warranty too.
      6 Years for Plug-in Hybrids & 8 Years for fully electric vehicles

      @npoleary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Meng Loong Tee,
      No not currently. The battery size is 13.5kWh and the fastest charging speed it can handle is 7.2kW via AC charging.
      Most homes in the UK would only ever be able to output that speed anyway so I guess if it did change in the future, you’d only benefit from public charging.

    Can you use only petrol everyday without chargering ?

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could but that would default the point of spending more money to buy a plug-in hybrid in the first place.
      The idea is that you can convert some of your journeys away from using combustion fuels. You don’t have to charge all the time though, it’s just the more you charge the cheaper it is in terms of running costs 🤓

    At 6 minutes you say the battery power has to be fully used before you can use the engine, really???? I don’t know any other PHEV that prohibits Hybrid mode which can use both power sources as it sees fit. That’s the point of hybrid, to optimise the use of power source.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Andy, sorry for the confusion.
      No I’m talking about the default driving mode called Comfort.
      This default mode will use the battery up first and then when it’s empty will switch over to the engine. Like most hybrids if you accelerate hard, this will switch and use the engine as well or if you want to change it yourself, you can do this too at any point.
      I was referring to if you just jump in and drive without changing anything.

    • @triniflyer8685
      @triniflyer8685 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is correct. Most people don’t understand that’s why it’s called a hybrid mode. The combined power is always available if needed regardless of the soc

      Hey Andy, some plug-in hybrids used to offer this but it is no longer available now The whole idea of a plug-in hybrid is to get that power from a cheap source. Unfortunately fuel isn’t cheap 😅
      Plugging it in is sometimes around about 1/3 of the cost compared to fuel. Some charge points are still free if you can find them!

      The GLC has a 13.5kWh battery where as All-Electric cars have batteries over 60kWh which will give you a greater range.

    • @npoleary
      @npoleary  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a tricky one to work out because it depends on the journey you do. So for example, if you drove 2 miles up the road, went into the shops then drove back and the engine didn’t switch on, you will have achieved 999+ miles per gallon, because you haven’t used any gallons of fuel, just electric.
      Another example, same trip but if you accelerated hard at the lights just once, then drove normally for the rest of it, then your MPG might be around 300-400 MPG because it averaged out on electric for most of it.
      And the final example, same trip again but this time you drove there on electric and then drove back with the engine on “Battery Level” (this mode uses the engine) then your MPG might be around the 100-200 MPG mark.
      Miles per gallon is very tricky to work out on hybrids because there is another source of power pushing you around which throws off stats. MPG is used to measure how much fuel we use, where as electric is measured in MPkWh (miles per kWh)
      This is why that figure seems high on short journeys but less on longer journeys. Of course the more you run on electric and plug it in, the better your MPG will be but with a plug-in hybrid you don’t have to to complete a journey.
