- During our transatlantic cruise in April/May 2024 on Odyssey of the Seas, one of the stops was at the La Spezia port near Pisa. As children in elementary school, we had read about the Leaning Tower of Pisa and it was a dream to see it in real life. But, we didn't want to miss Florence either, so we booked a long shore excursion through Royal Caribbean called "The Best of Florence and Pisa" and we were not disappointed. Yes! Next time we hope to get more close ups of the detailed work on the buildings and the doors. Also, going inside is definitely a must along with climbing the famous tower.

This part of Italy is definitely on my bucket list. Thanks for sharing and starting my list of things to see.
We found all excursions in Italy to be enchanting but we did feel that we needed more time at each place to truly appreciate what was there. For the future we would love to walk up the Leaning Tower and in Florence, go into many of the museums, churches and historical building that we just did not have time to do. This trip was really very special because we had never been to Spain or Italy. Every trip is special, but to see these sites we had only ever read about was magical. We have more upcoming videos including Malaga, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal.
Would be great to have the pros and cons or ups and downs when you do these types of videos. It would give us a better sense it, rather than thinking every moment was “magical”. Considering you missed virtually all of Florence”s main attractions by not going inside, that seems like a pretty big con. Could you please include the cost of these excursions as well? Thanks.
Hi @markolwick2223 Thank you for watching and your feedback. Overall, it was a special day for us as we ticked off some major bucket list items while celebrating Crystal's birthday. We did think there was not enough time really get to experience each place. You mention Florence but also we would have loved the time in Pisa to go into the church and climb the tower. In addition, there was a lot of walking, which would have been difficult for some folks with mobility issues. We did know this when booking the excursion but did not want to pass up the opportunity to do both. We are fortunate that we will be back next year and at this point, plan to spend the full day in Florence.
We appreciate the pros and cons feedback and have already discussed how to incorporate it at the end of the excursion videos. Maybe the top things we liked and things we would change. Thanks again for your comments!
Thanks for your video. My family schedule this excursion for our cruise next year (May) do you think it was worth it or do you think it will be better to do either Pisa or Florence instead of trying to get both on 1 day?
hello @YereidaRivera, thanks for watching our video! Here are our thoughts: the next time we go, we will not spend the time to go to Pisa....the tour only stopped at Miracle Square and we're not sure what else is around. We would focus our time in Florence, which is a wealth of art and culture...not to mention amazing food. We would chill out and browse around and wander, visit museums, etc. However, having never been to Pisa or Florence before, we didn't want to miss either one. It was Crystal's birthday and she dreamed about seeing the leaning tower in person, so it was amazing to see that dream come true. We suggest talking with your family to find out what kind of hopes and dreams you can fulfill that day and how much you want to do & see, all in one day. It was a long day, but we genuinely enjoyed it. Again, going back, we'll relax a bit more and just spend the day in Florence. We hope this was helpful and we'll be interested to hear what you decide to do. 😀
