Do we actually need to tell you we want this to be a series? Because... Yeah, we do.
Story 11/10
Environment 11/10
Threat design 11/10
Characters 11/10
Voice acting 11/10
Kudos to the developers for making the characters so charming so quickly that when they're lost it's that much more impactful.
Honestly, it gets even more painful as the game goes on. No spoilers, but I genuinely had tears in my eyes at a later part because they do such a good job of making these characters grow on you.
Can we also take a moment to admire Chris and the fact that he walked into the showers in a video game and noticed dudes ass cheeks were all the way out, and he turned away like he was really trying to not be disrespectful. HAHAHA we love you bro
The way Roy said "you won't....leave me?" really got me in the feels. Such good voice acting in this game.
the dialogue is so well written. i love when a game manages to introduce characters and their backstory without narrating or explaining but simply through dialogue
As a Scottish man, I was so happy to see a game that finally had Scottish accents by actual Scottish actors. I think people underestimate how hard a Scottish accent is to actually pretend to do, they never come out right, even from the best voice actors and actors in general. So hearing the dialect and all the different variety's of accents made this game amazing. Not to mention the emotions in the voices. Over all, this is amazing.
Turned so Scottish that he skipped a scare at 42:01 and went straight to "Nah, let's just go towards it. Can't be scarier than missing my whiskey time"
The screwdriver is the real MVP of this game
This is the kind of horror game i want to see more of. no combat AND living friendly NPCs. this world has so much more life to it than most other 3D horror games have.
this is incredible,
i look forward to the next part.
Thank the devs for subtitles 😅 Love Scottish accents, but I'll be damned if I can understand 80% of what's being said.
The voice acting is so good. The screams of terror on the phone and behind the sealed doors convey so much horror. ☠️🏆
My stepfather worked as engineer on a rescue tug in the North Sea. He said one of the best things about working there was that no matter how bad home was it was better than the north sea, and if you were ever there in the winter it could make you feel home sick for hell.
Okay, so you definitely need to continue this one! The writing, the setting, the characters, all of them really well done. Not only that but it nails the idea of giving the player just enough horror to let their imagination run wild with it.
Also, as a Brummie I'm so glad there's subtitles! I could make sense of most of it given the context but some parts of dialogue would leave me dead in the water.
My parents are from Glasgow so I have had no issue understanding the voice acting. It’s like listening to family 😅
I hear ya, it feels like home lol but I’m from Stirling, currently in Inverness :P nice to hear the Scottish accents in a game.
I’m born and raised in England so the only Scottish I really hear are my parents. I love that the actors are Scottish, I don’t know why but it feels like they make the characters seem more alive than if they were voiced by English actors
Wanna hear something funny? I'm an American living in the South, and i can pretty much understand what it is they're saying. Weird.
@@TeaMasterIrohsame here, but many Scots and Irish settled in tne south, so maybe that's why?😅
Video just started but we all know when the name has "Deep" in it, our lovable Earth Mascot Cthulhu will be dropping by for a visit.
Honestly this is one of most thought out not just horror but game i've seen in such a long time, it's such a breath of fresh air that even AAA games can't seem to do anymore. It feels so nice to know each decision was made with broader intent. ie scooby passing you the screwdriver not only set you up for a tutorial for interacting with objects, but it also ties into the world so well (and feels realistic to delegate such a small task to someone on the lower lever of the rig) AND lets you continue on your path. So excited to see more from this game ahh !
Hearing Trotts stuck on the other side of door screaming bloody murder made me want to cry 😢 Holy flimflam, damn fam 😅
Damn, your Scottish accent is excellent, I'm jealous of it mate
The dialogue is 100% authentic. In Scotland "f*cking" isn't a swear word it just means the next word will be a verb or noun"
Oh man, I was looking forward to a full playthrough with that Scottish accent.
Seems the drilling woke something up....
@@mandivvy I was actually thinking the same, though when I first saw that... Whatever it was, coming up underneath the rig, my mind went more toward Dead Space cuz it looked a bit like that huge twisted "idol" thing.
Thank you so much for playing this. As Scottish is concerned, I went to Scotland right after I got my M.A. in English (Im not a native speaker) full of self confidence and got a very harsh reality check. Couldn't understand a word for the first few days
I'm an English first and only language speaker and it isn't you, if someone has a thick accent from Louisiana, to Scotland, to Leeds UK I need subtitles 😂
It reminds me of The Thing with the body horror aspect. I LOVE the setting, definitely need more asap. Oil rigs have always freaked me out!
I've read some people complaining that this was "just a walking simulator" but it's a damn good one ! I'm loving this so far : the visuals, the voice acting, the sound design, everything has been top notch. Really looking forward to Part 2 !
There are fail states, as you can die and get returned to a checkpoint, so I think people who are saying it’s a walking simulator are being too harsh. The gameplay reminds me of The Quarry with being very scripted/linear threats and QTEs, but it lacks the dialogue options, which probably would have added a nice additional layer. But all that being said, I agree that the story, visuals, dialogue, etc. are all fantastic and I’m enjoying it very much. I also had a feeling that Chris would like it!
considering many horror games are walking simulators, I think its just the typical group of loud trolls trying to cause issues where there are none.
I’ve seen a bit beyond this, and there’s definitely more to the gameplay! I do like how this game sets the scene. 👍 Even if it were a walking simulator, all the things you listed are enough to make a game plenty enjoyable!
people will call anything a walking simulator nowadays. people called Alan Wake 2 a walking simulator ffs lol. like if it's not Resident Evil-type action it's a walking sim...
and yet I bet you didn't support the devs. Instead you are supporting a youtuber stealing content for his own gain.
I caught a Scottish flick on the Independent Film Channel several years ago and the cast was speaking English but the film still had English subtitles. I needed the subtitles because I couldn't understand a dang thing they were saying. The accents in this game are nowhere near that Scottish, so to speak, so I can understand them fairly well.
Also, in December 1975 I was about 11 months old. Saying that out load makes me feel just old.
Beautifully crafted monster on a Scottish "occupied" oil rig in a Heath/Harold's Britain. That must be a true horror!
I just love it and want to see the next part. I wish Caz would save as many people as he could....
I vote to keep the accent for the next videos in this series! 🗳️ My ballot has been cast.
I adore a Scottish accent but I'm all over those subtitles! 😂
Love this game!
Wow, this game looks amazing and oil platform isn't something overdone
I'm loving this game... so nice to have a horror game setting that's not an abandoned school or hospital. Love all the Scottish accents, but I admit I would be mostly lost without the subtitles.😂 Please make a part 2!!!. Thanks for the entertainment Chris ❤
Some people might complain that this is "just a walking sim". To me, that is like saying "Dune 2 is just moving pictures"
I actually just finished watching someone else playing this game but then I see CJU uploaded this, how can I not watch it again!?
Amazing game, I can't wait for part II. But to be honest, the moment I saw that weird artifact the first thing I thought was "OMG they found a Marker, they are screwed". I was expecting to see some bloody graffiti on the walls "Cut off their limbs!".
Hang on tae yer bahookie, the baw's on the slates.🤣 Nothing's scarier to me than reality, and this game with it's gritty, realistic environment; natural dialogue; plausible characters; and organically revealed story has given me the spooks. I really feel the shock, disorientation, urgency, and fear. _Please_ play on, Chris, I want to know how this plays out. 👍
Commenting early on in the video. As a Mariner, I can confirm that this is the most accurate game, npc wise I have ever seen. The cussing, the derelictness pissin off the crew, talk of unions, all of it. Ohh boy it's a good thing HR doesn't have ears in the walls, they would practically faint overhearing deck, let alone engine crew lmfao.
As an American who has never met a Scottish person, nor been to Scotland, this was absolutely delightful!!! More, PLEASE!!!! ❤
So glad you're playing this. Was tempted to watch another channel playthrough but will wait to binge your series now. 😊
That eyewink was the cherry on top
What a start. Definitely want part 2.
CONTINUE WE GOTTA SAVE ROY!!
As soon as I heard Finlay's voice, I absolutely KNEW it was Karen Dunbar! Scottish royalty!!
The Gibbo sequence where you hear him but never really see him is also really effective horror.
I'm only 36 min in and I just realized this game made me genuinely not want to see a character die. This game is impressive. AND a horror game. And ACTUALLY SCARY!
(Edit 1: At min 50 now. I don't think I've ever heard a side character react like this in a horror game. Usually they just give an emotionless 'No, not Jeffrey.' line. This voice acting is phenomenal)
(Edit 2: The main character is fvcking LIKEABLE)
I love everything about this game. But mostly that it has subtitles. 😂
brilliant game, looks gorgeous, and this Scottish accent is so nice, love it!
I was going to say it feels like home with all the Scottish/northern English/Irish accents, but the whole thing with the oil rig and the monster is a little… unfamiliar XD
Please make a series of this! I really want to see more!
I often read subtitles, just in general. I am a more visual person. If I'm only listening, I will miss things. But I'm pretty good at understanding accents, and I've got a lot of practice with Scottish ones. So I'm doing pretty good on understanding them.
"...the start of a new series, if you enjoy it" Brother we always enjoy it, keep up the great work.
Man that ended so QUICKLY!!! That couldn’t have been over an hour 😭 more please!! 👏🏼
This is awesome, I love games with deep sea creatures. And with this rig, great charactre build. Mysterious creatures. And horror. It tickles all the right spots for me. Great work devs!❤😊
OMG YESSS! I was hoping you'd cover this game. I beat it in 5 hrs the day it came out, I LOVED it. This game is AMAZNG.
It might be strange to show my love in super long steam store page reviews xD But yeah, very much loved it! I hope you enjoy it, CJU!
A horror game with an actual story? Yes please!
My eyes were glued to the screen every second! This has to be the best horror game I’ve seen in a long time. The voice acting is perfect, and I love the Scottish accent. It looks great and the story has me 100% invested! ❤
I'm in love with "Horror Tales The Beggar" and now I'm in love with this game too!!! Let's go for part 2!!! Let's go CJU!! 💪
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, CJU!
Great looking, great animations and fun and engaging voice acting.
I'm American so I'm relieved that there's subtitles. I talk to people with heavy accents on a daily basis since I live in an area with a lot of new Americans but not Scottish ones. It's amazing to see a game with realistic voice acting so I'm really looking forward to seeing where it goes 😁
I saw another Chanel play this and I thought it looked amazing I'm going back to it. Now you're playing it I'm dropping the other channel. I look forward to it. Seems like a wee beauty of a game
I'm currently on my own playthrough of this, but I can't wait to watch this one! My husband and I were really hoping you'd play this too. Excited!
‘We just fixed a fuse box, it’s definitely a horror game’. Made me chuckles 🤭
27:10 so as someone who has scuba dived, we get the whole decompression stuff hammered into us. and im assuming its the same based on context
but essentially decompression is for decompression sickness or the bends as i know it, is basically bubbles of gas that form in just about any part of the body, usually due to changes in pressure, the pain can range from being mildly uncomfortable to agonising, depending on location and severity
decompression treatment is recompression in a hyperbaric chamber, which simulates the pressure change and allows the body to essentially readjust and reabsorb all the bubbles. in unsure what one of those chambers looked like back then, but nowadays theyre essentially cylindrical coffin shaped lol
fun fact, but if youve gone on a plane or been at a high altitude, it is strongly recommended that you dont scuba dive soon after bc its likely to cause the bends, and vice versa
sorry for chatting so long i really love talking about the bends and will take any opportunity given
Christ, a Scottish jumpscare 😂!!
I could use that as a nickname tbh
THAT'S WHAT WE WANTED! YESSSS
Love the incredibly subtle details in this like the Union guy being nicknamed “Trots” and Addaire, the one guy with a giant union flag, also having National Front posters and an armband
This game is brilliant! I love it when the game interacts with the environment and you can climb stuff. Im always loving the look back feature in horror games and I would love to see the gameplays Part 2 and Part 3
This felt like Dead Space meets Dog Soldiers. Such amazing memorable characters I became instantly invested in. I absolutely loved it, and really glad to have you along for the journey too.
This game looks fantastic, also poor Caz how much worse can his day get? I imagine we’ll find out next time aye.
I liked this quite a bit. If you think of the game as more thriller than pure horror, it feels more tense without pointless jumpscares. Plus, cosmic horror and all that
It's really hard to list a special part or scene in this game because the whole thing is outrageously excellent, so I'll just say that seeing Chris' excited blushing glow at the end of Part I is my reward of the day.
This gives strong SOMA x Alien Isolation vibes, and i am 10000% here for it. SOMA was one of the best horror games I had ever watched. And if this game proves to have taken some strong inspiration from it...we are in for a hell of a ride.
This gives me "Annihiliation" vibes omg, especially the scene at 54:09 omg This game looks SO damn good and the story is so promising, I'm looking forward to seeing more!
I LOVE the accents. I have a friend from Scotland and I was so hype to see this game's setting. FYI, I saw on Mr Kravin's game that there are "Englishified" subtitles as an option, so if your audience is struggling to understand you can probably switch to those. But i prefer them the way they are!
This game is so well done. The dialogue and voice acting really makes the characters feel alive.
It's very easy to create an arsehole boss character no one has any sympathy for, so I love how well Rennick is written in particular: He's a man used to weighing up gains and losses, and making the hard decisions.
It's very clear he prioritises pleasing his higher-ups and will keep everything on schedule, no matter what. Then, over the tannoy, it seems like he's downplaying the situation while trying to get everyone to the lifeboats 'as a precaution', but once you get him on the phone it's very clear he knows what's up and wants to save as many as he can while there's still a window to leave.
Maybe even a "jerk with a heart of gold"? I guess we'll see in the next videos.
And then he left when people were still turning up to save his own skin. Any semblance of human empathy in that man has long shriveled up, the present crisis barely revived it.
Oft Barnsley getting a mention 😂
The dialogue is bloody excellent. And I'm getting some serious Thing/Annihilation vibes. Which is just perfect.
I love how natural the interactions are, and the npcs. I feel like the developers have some real experience out on the rig, even fixing the fuse, why bother finding a new one? just swap um! Plus it is absolutely beautiful! Definitely getting wicked Soma and Lovecraftian vibes
Best part of the experience is scrolling through the comments and automatically reading with a scottish accent 😂
This is absolutely a good looking game! Everything about it is just so spectacular. CJU, if you get stuck in some place, just follow the color yellow...
Hi cju ... thank you for playing 😊😊 please play faith
Love your videos man! Wish you’d start uploading in 4K 60fps so we could appreciate the beauty 😩
I already watched someone do a playthrough, but I'll still watch this for CJU's commentary :)
Absolutely would love to see you play this game all the way through. Thank you for uploading and looking forward to part 2!
I probably cannot survive in Scotland😂
The food? Yeah it's pretty terrible but nowhere near as bad as England without the Indian food.
I definitely want to see more of this. Wow. Fantastic game so far!
PLEASE DO A PART 2!!! this game is so intriguing, and i love the scottish accents!!
When you said you've been living in Scotland for about 5 years, I had a moment of wtf. Just made me realise 1 how quickly time has gone by, but 2 how long I've been watching your videos. Could've sworn it was only last year or the year before that you said you were moving lol
From what I can tell the writing in this game seems very good. All of the characters you meet they all have their own personalities and they all feel real. Not like just cardboard characters or stereotypes. Its hard to write believable dialogue like that! Just look what Hollywood's putting out! They couldnt write realistic dialogue if their lives depended on it. So for a horror game to do it well is very impressive. The hardest part of writing in my opinion.
Good job, Chinese Room! You guys actually understand that the best horror is what you HEAR but don't SEE!
I'm watching 2 playthroughs of this game one after the other hah. One for content, this one for the story.
This is such an impressive piece of work. As everyone in the comments are already saying, everything is so good. Voices and acting, writing, graphics, concept, story it's all A+
the voice acting in this game is excellent holy shit, All of these creams deadass make my skin crawl
Holy crap, i thought crouching under the pipes in the water was bad but then having to submerge as well while trying to avoid Gibbo... This is so scary
This looks absolutely amazing! The atmosphere, visuals, and the characters are all well done. I love this so far. I'm definitely up for a part 2!😁👍
No, I do NOT want to wake the deep Chris!!! 😂
As a scot, im loving all the accents. It's no everyday you'll have a game like this. It's also visually stunning 😍 (still watching)
Game looks great. Characters look like they have some depth to them. Interesting plot and i certainly would like to see more
Oh man, I am not big on locker party horror games, but this is just top quality work. Good characters, good design work, love the voice acting...this is a pleasant surprise.
EDIT: Now I know what this reminds me of. Arkane Studios when they were doing their immersive sim stuff. That's the feel here. I know it's not, but it's got that same vibe. Bunch of little things to make the world feel alive around you.
*Whew! What a thrill ride! Die hard at sea, with _The Thing!_
I love watching creepy video games through you 😅 I remember when I didn't quite dare touch the mouse while still loving the chilling atmosphere in some games, and now I don't play anymore. Having somebody narrate the playthrough makes it just the right amount of terrifying 😊
Have to admit, as a Scot, a horror game with real Scottish accents and realistic dialogue is very exciting!! This looks like it's going to be amazing!!
Yes I agree! I feel like it’s a bit unusual to hear us in a horror game!
After watching this video and you saying your a Scot, I read your comment in an accent automatically 😂
I love the Scottish accent. I'd definitely love it if games did it more.
Fuckin aye
NGL, this was one of my favourite things about the game, alongside the option to play in Scottish Gaelic: The voice acting wasn't just nice to listen to because of the accent, the choices in the dialogue made them feel like ACTUAL people, not just average NPCs.
