Thanks! Absolutely right. I'm just starting out and am one of those people who need beginner videos like this (not how to design £5000 bonsai). Thanks for thinking of us beginners!
I just want to thank you Peter. After watching most of your videos I have a whole new 'vision' when I'm working with my plants... Just this morning, I found a piece of curved yucca branch that I planted root over rock... It's probably not legitimate bonsai, but I'm enjoying my plants in a whole new way, and I think that's what matters. Thank you.
Love this channel! Peter you have sparked a bonsai love in me. I have been fervently buying bargain bin trees here in New Zealand over the last few weeks, drilling holes in suitable ceramics and making little bonsai. Today I went and harvested hundreds of maple seeds at our public japanese gardens and have sewn them following your instructions. Love your DIY attitude. Keep making videos! So appreciated.
I sit with a smile on my face watching Mr. Peter designing these Juniper's, it is simply amazing to me. I really would love to tackle this type of work like he says "very daunting" for a beginner. Thanks for all the work you do on your videos
Greetings from Texas! Peter, I'm a beginner to Bonsai but since I've found your channel, I've been hooked watching videos. Your videos are truly a treasure. I wish I was in the EU so I could be a customer! Either way, your videos are a gift to the bonsai community.
Showing the refinement of the junipers of Chinese variety is very important here. I like his element of keeping it simple. Within capabilities. Refinement. The trunk; the branches; the angle of planting all are covered. AF
I just bought your bonsai beginner bible care book for my daughter, as a birthday gift. I also gave her two very small juniper bonsaï to start working with. Your videos are wonderful, and so helpful. Thank you. We named one of our Bonsai “Peter”, after you. :)
Dear Mr. Chan, I am proud to announce that I just started my first bonsai, a Juniper Stricta from a 40 cm nursery bush. I fell in love with bonsai thanks to you. Now wired, pruned, planted in a not very shallow pot.
I know I’m not Mr Chan but that sounds amazing. I did the same but with a Chinese juniper 3 years ago and it now if I do say so myself looks fantastic. Hope yours turns out the same. Good luck!
I love these videos and learn so much from you master Chan. I do wish people would stop criticizing the sound. I understand it all and also enjoy reading the comments because many of my questions get answered that way but the criticisms make me want to not read the comments; and in doing so I would lose out on much information. Master Chan, I hope you continue as you do; I have learned so much from you and look forward to many more vids in the future. Take care.
Hi there I enjoy watching all your shows have learned so much from you you are a great teacher thank GOD I gave found you I know there are so much more to learn thank you so much for doing these videos and may God bless you.
I bought two Blue point Junipers, which seem to be very similar to the blaws at a very discount price. I looked all over for a way to style it, but didn't have any luck. I started trimming them and removed the lower branches just to get started. Unfortunately, I hadn't seen this video first where you make a big point about keeping the lower branches to thicken the trunk. Oh well. That's the way bonsai goes. So I guess what I have to do now is wire the branches down and leave them for a couple of years and see what happens. Thank you Peter for all your wonderful teaching.
I might have an idea for the 4 hours of content wich is ‘lost’. Put some relaxing (japanese?) music on the background and slightly speed it up so we have a 2 hour ASMR video. Would love to watch it before sleeping
I think I love every single one of your junipers. Ive always admired them. I hope people that own any of your trees truly appreciate it. Living in America keeps me from doing so.
Thank you for this informative Bonsai. I look forward to learning more, as I recently purchased an 8 inch potted Juniper for transitioning into my first Bonsai.
Hi Peter, thanks for sharing your wealth of knowledge. I have found it really helpful and I always look forward to your next video. My only wish would be for more videos! I’ll be visiting your nursery for my birthday on the 21st of June, all being well and open. Would love to get your autograph on my copy of bonsai masterclass. Take care all.
Again , the amazing Peter chan shows you inner wonders of bonsai. Truly inspiring. I recommend a 1to 1 course with peter . I did , and opened a doorway to another dimension of creativity. Always be grateful. Thankyou.
Hi Peter ! Thanks for the inspiring video once again :) Please note that some of use are starting to get better than "beginners" thanks to years of your teaching and we'd love to see some more advance work too !
Great video Peter. Little ones can still be challenging after all. I love juniper, they don't like me. Always die. I do much better with deciduous trees.
Thank you so much for these videos. I've been afraid to do Junipers but your calm explanations make me want to give it a try. What do you use to feed the Junipers and does each species require different feeding?
I had two little Maples that grow from seed and wired them in S shapes. I let grow I pulled them up last Summer and took off the wire and watered them all winter and sudden they were grow leaves on them before all the trees outside had leaves . They are doing quite well. Thanks to your instructions💚💚💚💚
Another very good instruction, I have 3 small one, kind of hard wood. So I just keep cutting it. Small about 7 years old. Question Mr chan, what product I can use for doe’s white insect?.not much time to take it by hand. Thank you kindly.
Mr. Peter, do you have any recommendations for working with blue star juniper? I got one last year at a local hardware store for one dollar clearance sale. I reported it and got it back to health. I have to admit nervous to do root work, but I cleaned up the trunk and a lot of sickly looking branches.
Hi Peter. Just a thought about a potential solution for the video with lost audio you mentioned here - maybe you can narrate the video and add that to the final cut? Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us :)
How long, meaning what length of time, do we leave the wire on? How do we know when we can remove the wire? Is it lignification? How do we know please?
You can leave the wire on until it begins to mark the bark. As the branch grows and thickens the wire will begin to “cut in” and if you don’t remove it timely it will leave an ugly scar. Not possible to tell a fix length of time. It depends on how fast the branch grows. It can be anything from a few months to a couple of years. Just check your trees every few weeks in the growing season. You can unwind a small portion to better see what’s going on beneath. Sometimes the wire doesn’t seem very tight yet there’s already a mark forming. A small scar will disappear with time but if it’s deep it won’t. After you have removed the wire you can subsequently apply new wire to keep the branches in shape if they are not set to your satisfaction. Good luck! 👍
Good advice from panse pot. May I suggest you subscribe to his channel. There is something for everyone and every age/stage. I'm certain you will find most of your questions answered. Best of luck !
Junipers can cope with direct sunlight, some more than others. However , keep a check on the watering ect if in full sun. They cope with adequate dappled light. I dont think permanently shaded would be a good move. Best of luck.
I think I killed my Juniper Bonsai . I think I overwatered it. Maybe the cold weather. It is not brown but feels real dry and brittle. Is there anyway to help it?
If you think you overwatered it, let it dry out a little. Put your finger into the soil up to the top of your nail. If it feels wet, don't water it. Watch out for new shoots, so long as there are new shoots, it is not dead.
@@Stettafire I have stopped watering it. I will look for new shoots. Thank you I hope it lives it was a gift from my sister. First one I have ever had.

Why does your material look so bad? The foliage needed thinning out so it would be getting good light. Because you didn't do this you have weak foliage. And this is what you call refined? No, this is still very early development. You have a lot to learn. I know you bought the few trees you are known for. But come on, this is not refinement of a tree. Even a beginner knows that.
