It's obvious that Scott suffered a dislocated hip during the second knockdown of the round. The third knockdown render him unable to continue. Thanks for this great coverage!
Scott, who won something like 7 fights by DQ was so well known for his habit of trying to win fights by claiming low blows that he was disparegingly referred to as "Phainting Phil". That's why Sharkey was so animated after the fight was stopped as he felt that Scott was up to his old tricks again and was trying to steal another "win" by claiming foul.
Part 2: James L. Kilgallen reported (Part 2): The blow he said disrupted the sciatic nerve and rendered Phil's legs helpless. Pins were stuck in Scott's legs and he said he did not feel them.Scott was also examined by Dr. C. F. Stokes. The latter declared, too, that Scott was fouled, and that the nerves of his legs were temporarily paralyzed.
Part 1: James L. Kilgallen reported: Boos assailed Scott's ear drums and he crawled through the ropes, assisted by his seconds and almost carried to his dressing room. .There two doctors examined him and found a blood clot over his right hip bone about an inch below the beltline. Dr. Morton K. Hertz of New York, a ringside observer, was one of the physicians who examined Scott. He described the Englishman's injury as "traumatic sciatica," induced by a blow on the right hip.
A major contrast between the 2 fighters, as Phil Scott basically use's the same flat footed style as 90% of the white hope cowboy style boxer's of the previous era. He looks like a Frank Moran or jess willard cowboy type. Not to say it can't win a match, but Sharkey definitely is not a flat footed fighter, his footwork is getting advanced at this point in his career. Had he been a generation sooner Sharkey would probably been the best white hope era fighter. It's funny i watch this fight and my first impression is Sharkey kinda made it a point to take that short close range hook that dempsey punched him out with and add it to his arsenal.
Thank you JABARADELLI for the explanation of Phil Scott's injury in the boxing match with Jack Sharkey. It sounds perfectly legitimate. I am a former amateur boxer and have suffered a similar injury, but, fortunately never in the ring. In my experience, I have found it to be a debilitating and painful experience. Nonetheless, I was impressed with Phil Scott's willingness to continue the battle after sustaining this injury. It is a shame that the callousness and sarcasm of the reporters of that era popularized the notion that it was a ploy, by Scott, to gain a victory via declaration of a foul. Yes, I am also aware that some notable fighters of that era have attempted to gain technical victories via this dishonorable method. But, the injury on display in this battle appears to be legitimate.
Sharkey was not adverse to using questionable tactics. He learned that from Jack Dempsey. The narrator neglects to mention Sharkey losing to Schmeling in their first fight by a low blow.
Scott had no answer for Sharkey's left hook, left everything. Sharkey seemed to know this, and one can only assume Scott's low position of his right hand, was the tell. Way too low for Sharkey's power and decent speed, and it was getting through all the time and even without the questions at the end of the fight, Scott was doomed to fall.
So suddenly Phil brought his seconds and manager and doctor into the ring for a consultation ..? What a disgrace. He needs to be banned from boxing -- or any sport really, except theater. Yeah give Phil an acting award and then ban his 7ss

I knew of this fight, but never saw it before. I have never seen a fighter as pissed off as Jack Sharkey was at the end.
That controversial low blow loss to Dempsey is still fresh in his boxing mind
Im not lying when I say this but
Phillip scott is my great grandfather on my mums side

This was the fight that earned Scott the nickname "Phaintin' Phil" from some unsympathetic sports writer.
THIS MACTH WILL GET RED HOT
I always get Tom Sharkey and Jack Sharkey mixed up.
The narrator refers to Tom Heeney as an American. He was from New Zealand.
Heaney was probably embarrassed. About NZ.
I don’t think it was Harry Wills who KOd him later on. I think it was Larry Gains.
Sharkey was not adverse to using questionable tactics. He learned that from Jack Dempsey. The narrator neglects to mention Sharkey losing to Schmeling in their first fight by a low blow.
There was a dent in Max Schmeling's cup from the low blow from Sharkey
Wow,Jack knocked out a lot of LH champions

Sharkey was a favourite of notorious thug Al Capone and quite likely threw the second fight with Primo Carnera as a favour to his gangster pal.

Sharkey's favourite punch was a left to the groin.
