    Never knew small equipment would have software updates. Thanks for the video

      These "Auto Tune" saws have a computer controlled carb. There is no provision for the user to adjust anything, even the idle. Dealer techs can't even adjust the settings. All we can do is see how its been performing and make sure the firmware is up to date.

    Really like your chainsaw video's! It's pretty cool to see other mechanics techniques. Keep em coming.

      Maybe I'll do a more in depth look at the Common Service Tool for those that are curious. Thanks for watching.

    I'm surprised the company don't recommend a hose clamp onto that impulse line to prevent it from popping off again.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think it gets pulled off. A clamp might result in a damaged line. Of course the line could be longer.

    Any suggestions for the same saw, brand new that just doesn’t want to stay idling? Thanks

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On that model I've seen saws with under 120 pounds compression that wouldn't idle. A new top end and nothing else has always fixed it.

      I missed the "brand new" part not sure. Sorry.

    I'm curious, is it really worth it with the computer, I have an 044 that runs strong everyday, these newer saws seem to be in the shop a lot more, what ya think, to me seems more expensive with the modern saws

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Certainly a traditional carbed saw is simpler and cheaper. I've heard guys claim the new 592xp gets at least twice the fuel economy as a similarly powered 395xp. Is that worth something? Depends how you use your saw. As far as being in the shop more...my experience is that when they come into the shop its usually the same opld crap as the old school saws. The autotune portion does pretty well but not always.

    Hi I'm considering a T540 that will only idle in a high RPM mode. Any idea what that might be? Guy says it needs to be programmed or put on a diagnostic machine.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If it won't idle down then its most likely an air leak, in which case you need to make sure the cylinder isn't scored, or a physical problem with the throttle linkage. Last week I had one on the bench where a piece of random metal was stuck to the throttle position sensor and keeping it from idling down.

    • @wildmanofborneo
      @wildmanofborneo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGreasyShopRag Really appreciate your answer. Would a compression test reveal a scored cylinder? Do you know the acceptable range of compression? Does it have a compression release that might cause a misleading reading?

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wildmanofborneo I've seen T540's that didn't idle when they had less than 120 psi. No compression release. The best way to determine if the cylinder is scored is by looking at it. Unfortunately thats difficult on this saw unless you use a camera or do a lot of disassembling.

    I know that before Tanaka went bully up, they where putting chips in there trimmers, just a matter of time before I would have have to get a code reader. We switched over to Redmax, made by Husky,. but so far, no need for a reader. So the question is, what is a code reader going to cost me ? Dealer only ?

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the box and cables were around $100. Yes its dealer only. You need to be a dealer to download the software and then to log into the program.

    I got a t540 and the choke won't hook up to carb it's been to local saw shop I think it's missing a part it don't look like choke will reach carb

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  ปีที่แล้ว

      I know they fit in there weird but unless its broken I'm not sure what you've got going on there.

    • @Daniel-gw9im
      @Daniel-gw9im ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like carb is to far to the right the choke fork is like 3/8 of a inch away from where it should hook up so I'm not sure it looks like it has been dropped from top of a tree handle bar an break handle is broke but I can take breather of and choke it by hand runs good just hope I can get choke to latch with lever gess I'll go deeper and check it out .

    I bought one of these saws 2 years ago and quit using it because its hell to restart when up in a tree. When cold on the ground it fires up as good as any saw. This should be 1 or 2 half ass pulls if was just cur 2 mins ago. Do you have any ideas why its such a bitch to restart hot? Thanks

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a whole list of possibilities. What is your hot start procedure?

      @@TheGreasyShopRag just pull the rope , it should start after only 2 minutes. It’s usually flooded.
      I did find out there is supposed to be some new tank vent kit that removes the vent hose from the air filter. I could not find the new vent kit. I saw you working on an other 540 and it had the new style vent kit. Thanks.

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kenthuntsingersr7501 Ya basically that vent kit involves punching out the old vent, adding a hose to it, and installing a new vent on that new hose.

      @@kenthuntsingersr7501 Not sure that the parts are available as a kit but you can order them individually from any husky dealer.

      Remove old vent hose, install plug on air filter box. Remove old vent and gut it. Install new hose and vent to gutted vent by routing it behind purge bulb hoses.
