Explanation of the materials used: The stacked area on the bottom is called a "false bottom and is necessary when you have a solid surface underneath so that water can drain. The cloth above it is so that water can drain but the soil pearlite mix stays put. The pea gravel is to keep the cloth in place. IF you do not have a wood wall to secure the cloth to (i would recommend using a nail gun into wood for added security) use large rocks around it to keep it in place. The false bottom, drainage layer cloth, and gravel are needed if you are building a bioactive terrarium or garden that is not on soil such as in a glass container or on concrete. Pearlite is used to retain moisture in plants evenly (also used for incubation for reptile eggs lol). Mixing it with the soil helps it retain moisture without becoming soggy or too dried out. In some places, you can buy it already mixed into soil, but it is more expensive this way. The only other thing I would recommend to people wanting to do this is to ensure is that there are springtails and isopods within this soil mix to clean up natural vegetation decay and to keep mold from forming (springtails eat mold!). You can either dig these up in the garden or buy springtail cultures online, this is only necessary if the garden is on top of concrete or in a container.
For the pond rocks, they seem to be using silicone to help secure them in place. They were very smart to use "uglier" but cheaper bricks for this to establish a sturdy wall. 100% silicone is safe for plants and animals, you can also buy aquarium silicone if you are unsure but the hardware store stuff is safer as long as it is 100% silicone. You can also use super glue or (American brand) Gorilla Glue (and then spritz it with water to cure it, it becomes non-toxic when dried). They then use a pond liner which is a very sturdy plastic for the riverbed and pond, This is an essential step to retain water and rocks.
If you want to make this, I would not recommend putting the moss in heavily trafficked areas as it will die from being crushed constantly. These gardens are for visual pleasure and not for stepping on. I would ensure you had a clear path to take when servicing the pond filters and pumps to not hurt the moss. I would also only use native moss to your area to ensure it grows properly (plus it is free this way since you can just go collect it LOL). For heavy storms with high wind or very cold temperatures I would also cover it with a tarp to keep the plants from becoming damaged. I would research native mosses and how they fare in various temps. Moss doesn't have roots like normal plants do so it is easy to disturb. Overall, I think this is a great idea that could work for most people if they planned it out well. Good job! It is very relaxing!

The best top feeder I have found for mosquito control is the minnow. They grow to about 3 inchs and last several years and having babies after 6 months. In some parts of the US they are called the mosquito fish. They are commonly sold in fish stores as feeder fish right next to gold fish. Add a float valve (like the float in a toilet) to your filter box and it will allow you to auto fill your pond with water from a 1/4 inch tube.
