This music sounds like a boss theme, like a lot of people comment- but it's the random encounter theme! I feel that highlights how much of a struggle fighting demons is for someone that's just, a normal person, not someone like Demi-Fiend who was given powers.
And that's the beauty of it. Compared to other smt protag's it's a miracle a teenager can go through the shit they go through and somehow keep some of there sanity. Here there is no miracle to save you. Just your skills, Wits, and a whole lotta luck. You hope that at the end once shit hits the fan that you can just get out alive with your sanity in tact.

@DevilBuster Kaz technically Shin Megami tensei is the american name for the franchise as a whole. So if you want to go on technicality, all of them ARE Shin Megami Tensei games. However if you're going off how Japan names them (like I do,) only 3 of the games named in this comment are actually SMT and the rest are Megaten as a whole.
I like how the song starts of dreadful and mysterious but as it goes on there glimmer of hope like when you first find out about the demons you are so scared of them don't understand them but as the journey goes on there is hope you understand them you can overcome the threat your the last hope for humanity
whats crazy is how it makes you feel. a typical battle theme makes one feel pumped and want to fight enemies. This? this makes you feel sacred, naked, vulnerabe, you know they are stronger, that the only thing saving you from death is a knife and a gun and shitty armor. That you are on their turf and they are (pun not intended) hell bent on removing you like a small flea
Chad Busch Yeah, sometimes I was scared to progress because you feel vulnerable and weak. Each battle could very well be your last, this battle theme literally tells you to take this seriously or get prepared to be punished. Strange Journey was a great game.
Chad Busch Nice:') If you're gonna play the other SMT games too be ready for some amazing games. All of them are perfect. My first SMT game was Nocturne and it's also my favorite SMT game. Have you played Nocturne?
This game is soo good, and is coming from a Persona fan.. This felt amazing when you chose the "Fight" command. The story is original, that's why it deseve to be called Shin Megami Tensei.
Beginning of this song gives me a xenosaga vibe. Then the chanting gives a Legacy of kain vibe. Then Shoji just blows everything away with an epic orchestral piece.
Metal Mario Lord That's not a genre. This is a JRPG. The perspective of the game isn't relevant to the gameplay contained within. Something like Fallout 3, which is an FPSRPG gets to have that title because the first person shooter elements are a prominent gameplay aspect.
So I should have said that this was the first JRPG I finished even though I finished lots of JRPG's before this one? THis was the first one with First Person perspective I finished. That's the reason I said FPRPG.

@MrWakka66 On the full japanese version of the sound track (or whatever version I have) it's called "The Fear of God", though I've seen other versions where it's titled "Pious Fear".
Yeah I listen to Classical Music
I love how the encounter starts tense but quiet, and the music only picks up the moment you choose violence.
or, when you mess up negotiation and the enemy chooses violence

Only Shoji Meguro can compose a normal battle theme that sounds like a boss or a final boss battle theme:) Shoji Meguro is the best composer ever:D

The composition of this song is so good I can't get over it
i cant even recreate it due to its ambitious notes and chords
To this day I still don't get the intended rhythm for the very start of the song. It sounds a bit jarring at first.
this song is so powerful that the pixies and freaking slimes you fight in the first dungeon don't make up for it lol.
One of my favourite battle themes. The part starting at 0:47 is awesome.
(Also the first FPRPG I ever finished)
Neutral ending FOR HUMANITY!
When I was playing for the "original ending" (the one I deserved) I leaned lightly into Law route, so I choose to stick with it on purpose
FPRPG? What?
First Person RPG.
Metal Mario Lord

That could be easily one of Metaphor Refantazio battle themes.
this is easily one of the best Songs in the Shin Megami Tensei series
And it's from an ost that I normally find forgettable. This song sticks out for how good it is.
This battle is sooooo lit....Shoji Meguro....You spoil me too much.

Who knew that Jack Frost demons could get that low-pitched? XD
Never underestimate the vocal capabilities of a Jack Frost.
And Shin Megami Deep Strange Journey is announced today.
Atmospheric as hell, the cover art fucking rules too.
"And NOW, the battle theme from SMT Strange journey, as sung by the jack frost choir!"
Goes really hard. The chants add to the tense atmosphere
Reminds me of ultraman for some reason. The chanting, the trumpets, and the tune. It's...
Really.
Really good.

How THIS is how battle music should be made! Dark and kickass!
This is why Jack Frost shouldn't direct the music when a Shin Megami Tensei game is in making.
*Why jack frost should direct music

very Awesome game, I'm glad they went back to the original style of game play. and the music on this game was the best I've heard from the series. :)
The voices belong to the buff versions of the Jack Brothers. Could have gone a lifetime without thinking about that.

@GringoGad I used to not be too into first person RPGs either, but SMT showed me how amazing they can be XD
