I went to graduate school with a student from Poland, about 50 years ago. He loved America but hated our tv shows depicting perfect families with nicey nice parents and nicey nice children. He viewed them as absurdly unrealistic, stupid. This is the family! But apparently real! And Princeton of course is itself a perfect college, even the town of Princeton is nicey nice.

I cant think of anyone in my extended family who went to college. My mind fit in, I graduated in the top 5%, but experientially I viewed my classmates, many like Paige, as extremely strange, like duck billed platypusses. I find Paige delightful, like a puppy, young and cute and adorable, but I also view her and her family as a perfect exemplar of a strange American subculture.
in college, I lived 1 hour away from my school (not a dorm) and my dad ALWAYS wanted to pick me up EVERY friday after his work so I could spend the week end with them. he did that for six years (bachelor and master's degree).
