The story with Doctor Sleep is that there is a scene of child torture, but while shooting it the child actor, Jacob Tremblay, was so good that his performance was affecting the other actors and crew members. When cut was called, he popped up, gave his dad a high five, and got a snickers from crafty like it was another day at the office. But the adults were scarred.
Doctor Sleep is really amazing, a rare thing that it sorta sequels the first film but stands on it's own as a version of the book. Loved it. Fun fact: actor Danny Torrance lives close to me and I'm friends with his son. He only had a cameo scene in the film, not much but, the studio secretly came to our hometown, rented a theater just for him and his family to watch DOCTOR SLEEP before it was released. Due to NDA, they had no idea what was up and what they were watching until it was revealed he was in the movie at that screening. Pretty cool story.
Heath, you have to see The Lodge and Doctor Sleep! Two excellent films! Yes, children are murdered in Doctor Sleep, but it's not done exploitively. Still upsetting, though, and meant to make you hate the villains.
I loved Dr Sleep the movie and the book. Definitely give it a shot. Rebecca Ferguson played Rose the Hat right off the page. It will attack your parent radar but that's what I love about horror. Should make you feel a certain way
I get it, Heath. My mother is a big King fan and I tend to gift her his new books. I've read a lot of his books, but sometimes he gets on my nerves and I read him sparingly nowadays. I feel like certain parts are just there to gross people out and push buttons (as opposed to the stuff that's really called for by the material). He himself has said he forgets and regrets some of his more mean-spirited books during his coke days.
This year is the year that my wife and I have been indulging in Yuletide genres past the usual Wonderful Lives, Miracles on NYC Streets, and Christmas Caroli; this year has been our first in including Holiday Horror. Last night, on Kino Cult, we watched CHRISTMAS BLOOD (which was pretty good, but Norwegian, so it is best if you are good for subtitles) and CHRISTMAS EVIL, which I liked better than my wife did, but I appreciated that it was very low budget and had the appearance of something made in the early 70s ... if George Romero made a Killer Santa movie during his SEASON OF THE WITCH/THERE'S ALWAYS VANILLA period, it would look like CHRISTMAS EVIL. I understand that John Waters has spoken very highly of it. THE LODGE is not something I would have otherwise considered, but someone below noted that it is a Hammer, and ours is a Hammer Freak home, so I will give that one a looksee. When you started a sentence with "IT! came ...", I was expecting it to be finished with "...upon a Midnight clear." You mentioned John Glover and his association with SMALLVILLE. I am curious: have you checked out the podcast TALKVILLE, with Michael Rosenbaum and Tom Welling? It's a fun listen, and they are absolutely mega-fans of John Glover. @@joshua2814 Seriously?? I've GOT to get that Blu!!! (John Waters' participation was a big reason for my snapping up the Blu-ray of BOOM!, though it was that reason along with Liz'n'Dick and Tennessee Williams and the 60's. You just don't find films like that anymore.)

Oh man, I hated The Lodge. It’s like what people who hate Ari Aster movies say Ari Aster movies are like. I feel very alone on this though, everyone else seems to like it.
They need to stop it with things like doctor sleep we already have these types of films. More obscure and or low budget fare is what I want from horror pack. Considering not renewing.
