The Treasury wouldn’t have to be buying back US sovereign debt prematurely if the banks were healthy. The government doesn’t do something it hasn’t done in twenty years - and before that hadn’t done since literally the 1920’s - if the banks were healthy. If the banks were healthy they could just wait until the bonds matured. They wouldn’t need to receive all of the principal right now.
Yeah, right.

When you have to go on tv and tell everyone how “well capitalized” banks are, it’s probably not a great sign.
