With any secular media (music, movies etc), ask the Holy Spirit: “do You enjoy being with me when I watch/listen to this?”

I personally do not listen to any secular music , I was definitely convicted in this area a couple years ago. Like someone else had mentioned here I believe music was designed for worship. And if the songs we are singing are not worshiping God I feel that they are probably worshiping our emotions or our circumstances. I absolutely love this episode! I think of course we have to be careful when we make a blanket statements over Christians, for what they should and should not do. But I think we should push it a little bit more towards keeping our focus on what is lovely and pure and praiseworthy before God. Amen you guys thanks for these episodes, keep them coming !

Amen, exactly what I was thinking; we should never be trying to focus on our emotions, like he was saying that in a breakup he likes to listen to secular music but that’s when you go to God not the world. Totally agree

This. If it does not glorify The Father, if it does not draw us to Him, then it takes us to other places. We are called to be a Holy people, we are called to be 'set apart'. We cannot look like the world but tell the world we are of God.

On this same note, some “Christian” songs are more secular than anything. It’s all about listening to HS for you specifically.

We are what we eat, What are we eating? In secular music it's all man-centered. In the Christian world of music it should always point others to Jesus to His divinity, to His personhood, to His Father. I understand youth pastors, need to be humble in His presence and Humility is actually GOD Confident. Knowing the Father is soo important.
You guys I am starting a Blog on Books that the Lord has brought to my home. Can you please help me pray...1st that I would Honor Him, 2nd that He will get all the Glory from this, 3rd that visitors will be wrecked by the words He speaks through me, and 4th that I get a chance to share links to TH-cam videos that have fed my spirit. The Goal is to promote Godly content, Holy Spirit filled books and Jesus focused words. Thank you for this podcasts. You are doing a good work. May the Lord continue to shine His Love on you.

I grew up in a musical family with singers and musicians. Music almost always filled the air of our home. Our mother taught us, over and over again, the story of David playing the harp for King Saul when he was tormented by an evil spirit (1 Samuel 16).
She would remind us to be so very careful and prayerful of who we allowed to sing and play over us. “Music ministers a spirit, you see this from cover to cover in the Word, so make sure it’s Holy Spirit.”

The charismatic world is starting to get weird when so many people are falling away from faith, scandals, so many people not being able to beat sin, part of that is because consecration is becoming rare. So people start consuming SO MUCH media from people who are living crazy wild sinful lives and that affects our mind and soul more than we know, no wonder people are living in bondage. I don’t think is sin to listen secular music or watch stuff more we should not even having a desire to consume something that doesn’t carry the Presence, so people start going too far and can’t bounce back. Not everyone has a good balance. I love love songs though, I think it’s pure but I am very very careful because it affects me. Anyway, life with God is about honesty, everyone should ask Holy Spirit those questions and be honest with themselves because everyone is so different but I wouldn’t recommend

i personally don’t listen to secular music the Lord super convicted me on that in the beginning of my walk about 2/3 years ago. i grew up on hardcore and punk and whenever i’d listen to it i would start to miss old lifestyles he’s called me out of so i just obeyed. Todayyyy i think it truly depends, as long as nothing is super vile or worldly it could totally be okay just pray and whatever convicts you, OBEY!
Now on the question of beyoncé and celebrities who are actively in witchcraft and have been called out for all that illuminati stuff then THROW IT ALL AWAY! lol

It's like getting sand between your fingers. You try to brush it off but eventually it starts to sink in. What you once were okay with now becomes irritating. Your spirit just won't let you enjoy it anymore. That's what conviction does. It bothers you.

I personally would have to disagree with most of this. Be careful what you agree with. Most secular music is a perverted version of worship. The enemy has taken something holy and twisted it to create a false representation of what exists in the Heavens.

I would disagree how you said you sometimes need secular songs to fit your situation. Give all you have to God and he will take care of your needs. Do not lean on wordly things rather pur your trust in almighty.

You should not as it does not glorify Christ. Asking if listening to secular music is a sin is a sign that a heart is in a wrong place. Christian should only ask ‘will this glorify God?’

I’ve always wondered - why would God convict you to not listen to worldly music because it’s not good but then turn around and not convict me? I believe it is black and white and not confusing. We shouldn’t want anything the world offers and if you aren’t being convicted it’s because you aren’t actually seeking him in this area and you pretend God is ok with it by justifying it and think Gods absence of speaking to you about it as a pass to do it.

    • @josiguevara2

Hi friend, I have been a Christian for the past 3 years and a half and secular music is a topic that I have always been confused over but I have gained a much better understanding over it and I would love to share with you. 1 Corinthians 10:3 says “All things are lawful, but not all things are beneficial or advantageous.” This reminds me a lot about music and I would encourage you to read it as well! Music is not a matter of hell or heaven BUT it definitely does affect you in ways that could take away from you. For example, look in depth to the meaning of your music. Is it demonstrating demonic content? Is it going against the Word of God? Is it encouraging you to sin? Does it place you in a moment of insecurity or pride? Is this your source of confidence? Is this what you find comfort in? Remember 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 says that Go’s IS OUR COMFORT so why go to music? The Word of God also says in Ephesians 6:12 “We are not fighting against human beings but against wicked spiritual forces, rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age.” Meaning that we need to be cautious on what you listen to.
Testimony: I bought tickets to see Taylor Swifts Tour but a week before it even happened I was convicted. After a fast, my life shifted completely and I am not sure what it was but I just felt my spirit telling me ‘don’t go’ ‘it won’t be enjoyable and you won’t have fun’ ‘be careful, don’t go’ and of course, I listened to my spirit. Galatians 5:25 tells us to live in Spirit and walk in Spirit so I did. A couple of days later, my Tim took was blowing off. So many Christians shared videos of how there was a display of witchcraft during her concert and at first I thought it was a little too much but for some time I just considered and opened my heart to it. Obviously witchcraft is not right and it’s a way that humans speak to evil spirits. And you can look up wit craft in the Word of God for yourself.
so i put it on the past and I knew my spirit was right and I knew that was directly from God because only He would protect me for such a wicked thing as that. More days went by and once again Christian socials were going off because Taylor’s newest music video had so many displays of demonic beings.
In the end, we all have free will and I pray that this helped gain a deeper understanding. I would say keep it safe, I chose not to listen to secular music anymore because i am the Holy temple and i hold myself up to that standard. This does not make me a better Christian in any way though! It’s just my choice. However, I would say just pay attention to what you are listening to and be cautious. don’t go in with the mindset that ‘its whatever’ because we are called to have the mind of Christ and we must do all things in ways that glorify God. ❤

We are called to be a holy people, set apart. In all of your actions you have to ask, "Does this glorify Christ?" How does you listening to secular music glorify him? How does it draw others to CHRIST?

@@OhWhatADelight it brings me closer to God and I don’t really talk to people (in person) very much but I do know that some do listen to secular music and some don’t. Those are good questions and I hope that I answered them both to the best of my ability
