My mum used to take me and my brother when we were kids back in the early 90's I have great memories and nostalgia watching this video. My mum passed away in 2016 aged just 54 to ovarian cancer and I found it hard watching this especially with the emotional music. I'm 37 now and have my own children but how things change so quickly. These moments I'll never get back but will treasure for as long as I will live

That's a heart warming message. I went as a child in the 70's with my parents many times and then with my own children and the grandparents in subsequent years. I have lost both my parents now but these memories, as you say, will live on.

Just stumbled across this clip, good stuff. My girlfriend( wife) and I worked there in 1975. Two young Aussies travelling the world, great experience. Worked in coronation and regency bars. Went back in 2009 with our daughters and security let us walk the grounds, very special. Thanks for the clip Neil

Very much so. The fact imagery can unlock doors in your mind you didn't consciously remember even existed is quite something to behold. I'm certainly thankful for it & the nostalgia this particular video brings, as I am sure you are x

As a kid we went there in the mid 70s , the long hot summer of 76 being the highlight, I loved the place, sad society changed making the place a no go area for families.

My first Butlins 1953 aged 9 with Mum Dad & 2 sisters. Sadly my asthma spoiled my hol a fair bit & was a nuisance for M & D, but I did enjoy it all. Then Filey in 1954 having been told the sea air would help - it didn't! Spent every night in the sick bay!!! Modern asthma medication has been brill for me over last 30 or so years.

I worked at Butlins Pwllheli in 1962. It was a great place for the holiday-makers and for the staff. The entertainers on the Butlins circuit were very good. Dennis Lotis, Michael Holliday, Emile Ford and the Checkmates, are just some that I remember - well it was sixty years ago. We also had a group of Finnish students working with us that year. They were lovely young people. Also, Jimmy Tarbuck was the entertainment Red Coat. Happy days!

+Neil Clarke I agree so much with you Neil. We always went to Butlins with extended family, sometimes in excess of 50 people so I remember these times as being the best of my life. Now family members are gone as well as my own beloved Mum and I again wish to have these times, I cant of course. I do however look at these clips and try to remember the magical times I had there, I only wish todays kids had the same wonder filled holidays that I remember, they don't of course as kids see magic in very little nowadays

Into my heart an air that kills
    From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered hills,
What spires, what farms are those?
That is the land of lost content,
    I see it shining plain,
The happy highways where I went
    And cannot come again.

Hi, I also worked as an enrertainer (keyboard player) back in 83 and 84. I also worked in the main front shop selling early computers and organs. When it rained, the ceiling would fall in and water poored into the shop. The ballroom where I worked was in need of a total rebuild. It was a great atmosphere though and I loved every minute. I worked 7 days a week and 6 nights. I know it wasn't everybodies cup of tea but I and thousands of other visitors and workers just loved it.

Had some of the best Holidays ever here in 1982 & 1983. The outdoor pool, the fairground with the giant and the chairlift. Not to mention the Empire Theatre and the glue tunnel. Magical times. Went back in 1991 & 1993, I think. A little of the magic was still there then. Virtually nothing remains now at Hafan Y Mor.

We went here in 1995 (I was only 5) and I have never really had any memories of it apart from a couple, but this video has made me remember so much more! The indoor funfair, I now remember being on that carousel, feeding the ducks by that pond, and also later seeing a Gary Glitter tribute act in one of the entertainment rooms! (well I hope it was a tribute anyway haha!) Great times, brilliant time capsule video.

I own a caravan at the modern day haven park. It may as well of been totally replaced from the old butlins. Few Shalleys remain, the ones that do remain are soon to be knocked down. There are two entertainment places, along with an arcade, swimming pool, golf course and Burger King. But compared to the old but line, it's nothing.

Somehow the music seems at odds with the atmosphere Butlins had at that time, yet it's so appropriate in light of what's happened to the camp more recently. How sad that so much of it has been destroyed. Surely nobody actually thinks they have a better holiday offering now at "Hafen Y Mor" than was on offer back then?

cant believe that this one got took over the haven, this was one of the best sites i ever been too and the first, why couldnt borne leisure invested into it instead of re-branded it to a haven site

I think Bourne Leisure who took over from Rank Group had no idea how much these camps were loved by visitors. They took everything away that was great and due to Health & Safety and costs they will never be rebuilt. Sadly lower visitor numbers caused the decline as people preferred posh accommodation to cheap functional so rubbished Butlins as out of date. How misguided they were!

      Totally agree. They ruined it.

@@MrClarkey01 Neil if you get chance to look on the Butlins Memories Website you will see amongst many items the personal accounts I wrote for all the camps. It was back in 2002 when the original creator of the site managed it and others have added much more material since. It’s still a great trip down memory Lane 😁👍

How can you say it's better Adam. No fairground, no chairlifts, no scenic railway. All that's there now is car parks and caravans

    • @PlanePokeLover
      @PlanePokeLover 10 ปีที่แล้ว

I don't know actually because I've only been there when it was haven so I don't know which one is better but I just think that it looks better because there was only little chalets as butlins but now there is caravans witch are better
