@@HaloCompletionist maybe the splatter didn't drain all his health in your playthrough. If it doesn't pop after you've killed him you can take out the shield generators like you normally would and drain the rest of his health. He won't be able to hurt you cause he is technically dead.
You could shoot the ground with his shields down to splatter him. The cowbell skull would help but you could do it without it just make sure you shoot to the opposite of a wall near his feet.
Just last night I was close to finishing my first ever LASO run. Went into the cut scene with 0% shields. First few attempts I died right off the bat because tank gun wasn't equipped. Got a pre-cutscene respawn(still with no shields), switched to tank gun, skipped the cutscene, and got the one shot. So I don't think it was a patch thing

If you don’t have the tank gun, just use the arcane sentinel beam with the bandana skull and grapple hook away from him on easy
You could use cowbell and the tank gun just as you skip the cutscene and splatter him. One shot kill and it worked for me

Worked for me, sometimes that method can be a bit hit or miss whether the splatter kills him outright.

I couldn't get this to work either so I had to do it the normal way with the tank gun.
Accidentally did it on my casual legendary run. I didn't go for it on purpose. Just played campaign as usual

just so anyone knows if he depletes your shields at all you can just die and still get the achievement without having to restart level
i cant seem to get the tank gun im on pc using steam idk its not there
did you do it while replaying the mission outpost tremonius?
Did it easily on solo LASO and it STILL didn't give it to me.
Just noticed when you shoot one of the wall sockets it damaged your shield, but achievement popped anyway?
You can lose some shield, just not all of it.
I allready used the Tank Gun in my playthrough so the weapon does not spawn anymore….
I might be wrong, but I think you have to be on legendary to splatter him, haven't checked though
