      The FAA will not respond to the requests sent by Kevin Kiley, they will just delay and delay. Once the election is over and Trump is elected the head of the FAA will probably take an early pay off and quit. He will never get prosecuted for his lies to the committee, they always get away with it.

That doesn't mean that Elon's America PAC and Elon himself aren't doing unethical and illegal things regarding the election. NASA, being the agency for Aviation and Space should be the ones in charge of licensing and safety not the FAA. The FAA should stick with getting the airline industry running smoothly and safely and get their noses out of commercial spaceflight. NASA is doing a great job stimulating that commercial innovation by handing out contracts and encouraging small companies to go to space.

    • @geezersongranite
      @geezersongranite 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      It does seem sensible to have NASA doing this licensing, rather than the FAA. NASA certainly has more relevant knowledge about rocket launches than the FAA, and since Starship is an important part of NASA's moon mission, it would seem that NASA would be better motivated to not hold up Starship launches for frivolous reasons. Also, since NASA is flying astronauts, ISS cargo, and other space missions on SpaceX rockets, they would be far better positioned to make well informed decisions on licensing and safety.

    • @joshua43214
      @joshua43214 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Congress decided (correctly imo) that NASA does not have the expertise to regulate private industry. When Congress enacted law to cover commercial space, the FAA was named as the regulator for private commercial launches because they are well versed in regulating private companies, while NASA and the DOD would continue to regulate and license public launches using commercial providers. Congress also placed strict limits on the scope of the FAA's regulatory bounds. Space is regulated much more lightly that aviation, and there are time limits and milestones that will increase the FAA's scope. The intention is to eventually have the FAA regulate space the same way they regulate aircraft.
      We can debate the merits of separating space out of the FAA's scope. At the end of the day, the same administration would appoint leaders to the new regulatory body.

    • @Randyluck1
      @Randyluck1 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +11

      The FAA is very much up to the job, it is exactly what they do.
      Being up to the job is not the issue, overstepping and mis-using their regulatory boundaries is the issue.
      Like I said, separating space from the FAA might not be the solution since the same person that appointed the FAA head, will also appoint a space regulatory body head.

      What will China do if they first establish mining exploitation on the Moon? The same they already do here on Earth, control and manipulate markets.
      Battery, Rare Earth minerals for high tech chips and BEV components. It is easy to see the importance of investing in space.
      Radioisotopes and water for propulsion, titanium and aluminium for building space structures such as stations and rockets, gold, platinum, ...
      Those will all be Chinese if we continue to hinder SpaceX.
      Moreover, NASA and the government should stop funding companies such as Blue Origin and Boeing because their technology is obsolete and expensive, they cannot compete with SpaceX or the upcoming Chinese Falcon9-like rockets. You don't have to agree with Elon Musk politically (I don't), but his political opinions in public forums is his first amendment protected speech. For all the folks (left or right) that complain about him, I have a question: Do you track the political opinions of all the CEOs of all the companies whose products and services you use? I'm guessing not, because most of them are horrific. You can oppose their position (non-violently), and even work against their political views; that's the American way. But should we stop feeding people because you think the Nestlé CEO is evil? Should we ban iPhones because the CEO of Apple maliciously hides behind a Mr. Rogers persona? There's a line that separates political opinion from illegal activity. Compared to most CEOs, Elon Musk is probably one of the least repugnant. How dare he try to save the environment! How dare he try to improve the world's economies with boundless plenty! How dare he try to save humanity from a world-ending cataclysm! Yeah. There's evil, and then there are those you disagree with. They are not the same.

    • @trottingwolf
      @trottingwolf 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      The other thing people miss is that Elon will tell you exactly who he is. What other CEO does that? Who would you rather have in charge of important companies, people that you know nothing about our someone who you know even if you don't agree with them.
      Another thing is even though I think Elon is misguided about how to solve the issues in our country i think he genuinely wants to solve problems. I think most politicians just want to keep the party in power.

      I am firmly convinced that saving the environment, improving the world's economies with boundless plenty (lmao), saving humanity from world ending cataclysm (rolfmao, the hyperbole >_< ) are very low or do not appear at all on Musk's list of desires. He doesn't really care about these things, it's marketing. Do you honestly think he wants Mars? Mars makes no sense and he knows it, but he also knows that it's a great aspirational talking point and he uses it for his own propaganda. And apparently you fell for it.

    • @macemoneta
      @macemoneta 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@andrewgoodall2183 So you believe he's telling you what he thinks politically, but don't believe him (or the 150,000 people that work at SpaceX & Tesla) when their corporate goals are verbalized? Is that why he gives away the Tesla patents for free? Is that why he's creating a Starship factory for mass production of a 100% reusable vehicle that can be refueled from the local environment on the Moon and Mars? Is that why he's creating a low cost workforce for 1/20th of the price of the competition?

    Folks, I’m breaking up my Comments into two: First, the Positive; followed by The Negative-
    First, the positive. We are glad the Congressman is on board with moving the Office of Commercial Space Transportation out of the FAA. We at the Alliance for Space Development, for the past two years, have been directly lobbying Congress- including me, personally, the past two March’s , where I visited many House and Senate offices - to proselytize on the importance of moving the Office of Commercial Space Transportation out from under the FAA, to make it its own Bureau under the Secretary of Transportation. Not only will that remove what is now an unnecessary level of bureaucracy; but it will allow space to ‘grow up’ and take its rightful place in the Federal bureaucracy as a full-blown transportation system that needs a seat at the table. We had the legislation written last year- in fact, it got all the way through the full Committee in the House (HR 6131), but never got to the floor, much less to the Senate. But, most Bills take more than one shot before they finally get passed. We look forward to working with the Congressman on elevating that office; and hope he’ll also consider a related priority, that of similarly elevating the Office of Space Commerce, raising it OUT of NOAA, and also making it a full Bureau within the Department of Commerce as well. - Dave Huntsman

    🤔...I think California has a law making discrimination based on political views or party affiliation illegal.
