I remember when the TTArtisan 27mm for X-mount came out. I wanted to get a hood for it, so I messaged SH to see if the hood for the Fujifilm 27mm would work. They responded super quickly, and I ended up ordering one the same day. The product itself was great--well made and beautiful. I'm glad that he's investing more time into the venture.
Oh my town and neighborhood. Would be great to see you next time in here Sam! Some photo meets and greets maybe? I met Thomas in his apartment and he showed me 1st drawings of the 3D hood. Cool that he made that his business!
Good to have run into this video. I have the official barrel attached to my griiix for UV filter protection, which makes it bulky and not too pleasing to the eyes. I might just go ahead and purchase the squarehood with the glass attached to, which makes it more compact and cool. Thanks for the video.
I bought a Voigtlander Ultron 27mm which arrived a few days before Squarehood launched their hood, so I obviously ordered one. Two weeks later I was walking along the Pebble Beach in Brighton (UK) with X-Pro 3 attached to my wrist and I was looking up at the Lifeguard Tower when I tripped (over an old fashioned Wire Grocery Store Basket half hidden in the pebbles) and literally face planted the ground. I was undamaged and so was the camera but the squarehood took the impact and it now has a few scratches on the front edges. A plastic lens hood would not have survived that impact and without a lens hood the voigtlander would have absolutely been damaged!
@@Victorbattaglia_music It’s impressive in that the colours and the clarity are excellent considering it’s a Pancake lens. I previously used the TT Artisan 23mm f1.4 manual (vintage style) lens which is very good for like 100 bucks but it’s a bit heavy when you’re carrying the camera in one hand (with a Peak Design wrist strap). I mostly use Zone focus (set to a hair under 3m) but the focus ring offers very little resistance so I am constantly checking that it hasn’t moved to infinity Again!
There is a nice business opportunity for him to make something for the new Q3 43, given the OEM hood doesn’t allow for a filter to be attached during macro mode.
So funny to see this video, I was just in stockholm a month ago, walking down those same streets participating in the Stockholm 24 hour / 24 pictures Photo Marathon :) Great little casual interview :)
A hangover, coffee and pizza for breakfast and watching a nerdy niche video = perfect morning. Here is my opinion on the ricoh. I love this camera. But I really don´t like getting dust into a such expensive piece of gear. If it had a fixed lens it would be great. Just take a look at it, even with extended lens it is pretty small. Further you could weatherseal it. This would make it perfect.
There is a filter adapter for Sony that you can actually stick in front of the lens. So basically it will move with the lens because it's at the end of it.
Had the same thought of someone a lot older behind the main brand. Great insight into his story. Also please share the source for the Nikon ZF thumb rest you mentioned!
If he manufactures quality plastic hoods then I'd definitely consider purchasing some for work glass that gets a lot of field action. Some people (hipsters!) seem to value the idea of a metal hood more than the lenses themselves. No way am I putting a metal hood on any 5k Leica glass!
Feedback: the silicone cap is awful and should be metal. I love everything about my MkIII X100 Squarehood, but the silicone cap makes me regret it every time I take it out of my bag and the cap peels off and dust gets stuck to it. It looks like newer hoods are shipping with plastic caps now which is great, but doesn't help me :(
Might increase contrast slightly (not so important in the digital age and modern lens). And maybe keep some raindrops/dust off your lens or fingerprints if you're clumsy. And as already said lens flare and protection from damage. Not so important on modern lenses/digital as it was in the past, more just for appearance. For something like the GR, some users worry about the lens barrel drawing in dust to the lens/sensor.
The technical use is to protect from lens flare. But I find that I want the hood just to protect the lens from bumping in to stuff, or to just protect the lens in general.
Wie ärgerlich, dass genau jetzt der neue Hood mit dem integrierten Filter für die X100VI bei squarehood ausverkauft ist… So bringt der Discount Code nichts :(
Ah this is so cool to see the people behind the products. Thanks for making this, Samuel.
I agree!

So happy he’s making a hood for the 40 rokkor. The 35 summicron hood is really nice
nice interview, this pulled me over the edge to order some! love to support him
Have the X100V hood, 2 thumb grips, and the hood for the 33 1.4 and 56 1.2. Love his stuff.
I bought one a long time ago for my 35 and 23 mm f/2 Fuji lenses. It is beat up, chipped and I love it!
Thank you for the shout out!;) 😂
Very beautiful product I really love it!
Really appreciated seeing the face behind the product, great video as always .. Squarehood needed for my Voigtlander 35mm f2.5 Color Skopar.
I got a squarehood for my X100V. Great quality , easy to install and looks amazing.
Such a good convo!

how's the lens, I've been interested in buying it but I'm not sure

Working on it.

Really nice Interview :)
Got a squarehood for my voigtlander 27mm. Really well built I love it
how's the lens, I've been interested in buying it but I'm not sure...
Great Interview! made me order a lenshood for my 27 2.8 :) And thanks for the 20%!
Don't know much about squarehood but I knew immediately that Thomas is from New Zealand haha. What a cool bloke!
I have never wanted a brass inner ring so badly. Please make that prototype into a reality across the board!

A thumb grip for the GR iii that incorporates a cold shoe for using with optical viewfinder would be nice.
I didn't know Squarehood was made by a fellow New Zealander! Woohoo
3:37 Thomas from the parallel universe is behind ! 😱
I thought I was seeing things!
there is square hood for Ricoh gr3 and x, didn't buy it yet but yes, they look nice too

I think there's one made for the Sony RX100. It's a simple filter ring with double side tape basically.

✨📷 Great video I own Fuji Squarehood on all lenses and a new one is on the way for Voigtländer just very good quality. ✨👋
I'm hoping one day he does some Nikon ZF hoods, desperate needed. 26mm, 28mm, 40mm, 35mm 1.8s and 50mm 1.8s
I was kind of hoping he'd say something about a lens hood forthe Sony A6000(etc) series.
nice to see you here in Stockholm...how long will you stay?
I almost never use a strap like the one’s you talk about. I sometimes use one that you screw in the tripod mount. Most of the time i hold in my hand 🤷
Ricoh just needs to build in a filter thread on the front element.

I'm a super amateur picture taker. What is the ppoint of a lens hood/squarehood
Well, for lens flare. But with today’s modern lenses you don’t need them. So it’s down to protecting the lens and looking good.

Die Streulichtblenden sind leider nur mit Schraubendreher zu montieren. Etwas umständlich. Würde bestimmt auch einfacher gehen.🙃
